…It's really eye-opening to realize how much time it takes to draw a single panel. And that's with a graphic tablet, which seems to make a lot of the tedious parts a crapton easier.

So yeah, he does say that he already has the end in sight. Also I guess we now know why Nino got her hair cut − the Rapunzel Hair just took ages to draw.

Well he did say he wanted the series to end this year.

…And I can see that after reading chapter 68. The kissing girl can only be Miku or Nino… Maybe Ichika but I doubt it, and certainly not Yotsuba or Itsuki. There goes my hope of a harem ending though.

A series where the best girl wins. That has not occurred since Naruto...

Ya know, I kinda heavily dislike Harem Ending because they aren't usually actually depicting polyamory, just wish fulfillment of one guy with lots of girlfriends <_< Like they also don't usually get into how much trouble that would actually be even if everyone was okay with it(and not into each other)

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei kind of showed how complicated it would be in its ending. Though that marriage was screwed up for many other reasons too.

Yeah, I feel like the polygyny was the least of the interpersonal issues among that particular cast...

That said, it would have issues here, too.

Okay, well, I read the next issue and I kind of wish I hadn't.

Ichika is completely unrepentant. She feels bad, but not enough to keep her from lying to her sisters again - suggesting that they don't get Futaro anything for his birthday because it would distract him, while planning to give him her present all the same. She also follows Miku around, keeping her from having a chance to talk to Futaro at all, and scornfully states that even if they were to all give him their presents at once, he would choose her without a second thought.

Edit: By the way, her gift is a gift card she didn't even wrap herself.

In other words, she's decided to take the pickaxe and just keep digging her way further and further past Worst Girl into Worst Character.

There is some hope in that the girls give him paper cranes folded from their practice exams, on Yotsuba's suggestion, as good luck charms for his own scores, but... ugh. Maybe I should sit out a few weeks and catch up when this whole mess is resolved.

Completely caught up, chapter 75!

"Congratulations, you've become a full-fledged liar." Oh, Fuutarou, you have no idea.

So… Yeah, I can see what the fuss was about… Actually, ever since Nino confessed, things have gotten kind of ugly between her, Miku and Ichika. But I didn't expect Ichika to stoop so low, even if it was foreshadowed when she didn't stop her dad at the inn. At least the other two play fair. She's getting desperate in the worst way possible. And holy crap, chap 74's last panel was terrifying.

I wouldn't say that she's "completely unrepentant" − that panel of her chest aching is significant I think. She's playing tough right now, but she's gonna regret it dearly before long.

I must say I liked Yotsuba unwittingly easing the tension with her carefreeness. She might not be a romantic candidate, but she's kinda the glue that keeps everyone together when you think about it.

Not a big fan of Takeda, but he's not too bad I guess… There are so few characters in this series (the Nakanos, the Uesugis… and that's about it) that it almost feels weird to have a complete outsider introduced so late in the game.

I want to believe in her. I really do. And I know that things work out in the end because we've seen as much in the flash-forward chapters, but... it's like you said, at least the other two play fair. I wouldn't even say that things are ugly between Nino and Miku; they're competing, but in an honest way. Miku was brave, if maybe a bit headstrong, to make it into a competition of cooking between them, but she's working to improve herself, and I think Nino respects that. She's not going to avoid flexing on Miku if she can with the skills she's rightfully proud of, but she's not sneaking into the other restaurant and salting Miku's pies either.

I don't know. I want to see this fall apart on her, and soon.

I trust the author on that, unless he plans to make Ichika into a full-on antagonist. But that would be weird.

Now when I say playing fair… While it's not quite as bad, Nino using the nickname that Miku thought up when addressing Fuutarou ("Fuu-kun") is still kind of cheating.

True, but she's also not hanging around them to keep them from being able to discuss how Ichika is a sabotaging liar. I agree with you, though - it would be pretty weird for them to be all ha ha, hey, remember that time I impersonated you and lied to damage your relationship with your now-fiance? Haha, wacky times unless this gets resolved firmly.

I dunno. I imagine this would have been similar to the experience of reading Scrambled Eggs or the Nino escape arc week to week, but still.

Things are gonna get ugly...

I have to say, one of the best things about reading this manga is the translater's notes. Apparently they're not too happy with Ichika either.

Itsuki is getting so many First Girl Wins flags with so little development because then the fandom will be happy with literally anyone else winning.

But yeah, having her stay with Futaro and talk to him about her progress while her sisters were squabbling about gifts seemed like a bad sign.

At the current moment, I would be okay with Itsuki winning. She's pretty standard character-wise, but she's a good person either way. I don't want her to win by default, but I don't think we really need to worry about that exactly.

Dunno, at the current point I think Itsuki works better as a friend than as a love interest. I'd be fine with her just sitting out the war.

I don't think she can win in any other way then by default... which why I don't think she should win at all. But yeah she is nice person.

I will say that so far Itsuki feels like the safe choice, which feels mean to say, but I think it's true. She and Futaro seem to have a fairly comfortable relationship, despite their snarking, and she's not as passionate about it as Nino or as driven as Miku, but she fits in well with the Uesugi family and so on.

That said, I don't think it was her who kissed Futaro at the bell, and that sister has been heavily implied to be the bride. If it was her, she's one of the best actresses among the sisters.

^^Same, really. Though I could say the same for Yotsuba, who is cute and a great character, but I'm not sure I get the sense she's more serious than a crush on Futaro.

I feel like rooting against Itsuki by default isn't really fair; people don't want her not because there's anything wrong with their chemistry but just because of some arbitrary aversion to "first girl syndrome"

I get it, it's cliche. But...almost every story in existence is built on cliche's. I don't see anybody really rallying against Nino when she's as bog standard of a Tsundere you can get.

If Itsuki wins, I will judge it by the quality of the build up to it and everything that's come before and not because I hold some arbitrary standard against her. There's really nothing particularly wrong with her and she easily has the most functional relationship with Fuutarou since she's not driven by her feelings like the others are. She's genuinely his friend and just wants to see him well, romantic feelings or not and I feel something like that is extremely underrated in a romantic series.

So yea...things are getting kind of heated among the sisters (except Itsuki and Yotsuba) so uh...yea. We're on our way to a collision.

She is actually least developed quint and while she has good relationship with Fuutarou it's very static and for long time she failed make any progress. That's reason, not some anti-first girl sentiments.
