The Zenpance

Victor has had a lot of doubts on his mind since the fight with the stone spider, mostly in regards to how useful he has actually been since joining the crew. Right now, he's... down in the galleys, looking for a cookbook.

(Ira listens on to Jerrid's story, not really able to think of much he can add on to it. It's very intriguing, though.) Hey, maybe we might find some clues along the way? (He suggests. Of course, after saying this, he realizes that this would likely require the crew to coincidentally end up in a place from Jerrid's past as they go on.)

(Ira hears some rummaging going on below deck. It doesn't sound like it's coming from where Kauri, Jane, and Georgia are.) Hey, I'll be right back. (He says as he heads below deck to investigate.)

Boat

I hope so. I really do.

As Jerrid watches Ira go off to investigate what's happening below deck he continues to allow Sennen to run her hand around his ears.

You know, I honestly don't mind this.

If Ira or someone else comes into the kitchen, they will find Victor rummaging through one of the lower cupboards.

"Hmm, I wonder where they keep those..." he mutters to himself. "Ah, here! I think I've found one!"

(Ira comes across the kitchen and finds Victor.) Oh, Victor! What are you doing? (He asks.)

"Oh!" says Victor, jumping to his feet as Ira comes in, the cookbook still in his hand. "S-sorry, I didn't mean to snoop around or anything! I was just thinking that, you know... He holds up the book. "I was thinking that maybe I could help make dinner for the crew tonight. You know, just to help out a bit around here."

Oh, I see. (Ira nods.) Well, I definitely don't have a problem with you cooking. Were you a cook where you came from?

The Zenpance

Having no other words to contribute, Sennen simply continues to stroke the wolf.

Kitchen

"Er.. not really," says Victor, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Actually, I haven't cooked before... but I thought maybe I could learn now if I start with something simple."

Oh, alright. (Ira says, walking over to look over the cookbook.) Anything in particular you were looking at?

"Well..." says Victor, leafing through the cookbook. "I think this recipe for tomato soup looks simple and pretty nice. I think we have some tomatoes here."

Sounds simple enough, yeah. I'll go check and make sure we have them real quick. (Ira says.)

At Sea

(After their setback at Aetate, Cleo's ship has been going straight to Kiosin. Cleo made the decision to skip Barhaven and instead wait for the Zenpence at Kiosin. However, Kiosin has only just entered the ship's sight and Cleo, sitting at the front of the ship, is getting less and less confident that they'll be able to catch the Zenpence there before it leaves, especially given their setback.)

Mom, where are we gonna go if Ira's not at Kiosin? (Melody asks as she idly makes a cat's cradle out of some string behind Cleo.)

That is an excellent question. (Cleo mutters.) I don't know if we'll be lucky enough to find someone who can point us in the right direction again.

(Recalling how they were able to determine how they were going to Aetate before, though, Cleo thinks about Esmeralda and gets another idea. She doesn't relish using such an idea, but then again, desperate times call for desperate measures.)

Hmm...we may need another plan. Could you get Esmeralda, Melody? (Cleo asks.)

Oh, sure! (Melody says, jumping up and running to the back of the ship. A moment later, Esmeralda joins Cleo at the front of the ship.)

So what's the deal now? (She asks Cleo.)

Esmeralda, we need to know what our next move to make is so we don't end up at any other dead ends, like the one we're at now. (Cleo says.) We need to know where to go next so we can find and stop Ira.

And I'm guessing that I'm key to doing that? I mean, you called me over here. (Esmeralda says.)

(Cleo nods.) What I want you to do is disguise yourself and infiltrate Ira's boat. When you find out where he and his companions are going next, report back to us, and we'll hopefully be able to keep one step ahead of them. Be careful that you don't get caught, and above all else, do not hurt Ira or anyone else with him. If they find out who you are, just come back here as fast as you can.

Hey, I can do that, no sweat! (Esmeralda says.) I've even already got a disguise in mind.

Excellent. (Cleo says.) Well, go on then.

(Esmeralda salutes Cleo, then does a cannonball off the side of the ship.) Woooo! (splash)

(Cleo watches the rippling water following Esmeralda as she swims away from the boat for a moment before looking back up at Kiosin Island.) We're coming, Ira...

Eventually, Kauri returns to the top deck, rubbing his eyes. How long was he asleep? Well, it doesn't seem to matter. They're all still at sea and he's at least rested up. The blanket he was using before is draped around him like a cloak.

Some time later, ship

After a while of simply laying on one of the benches Jerrid catches Kauri climbing back up to the top deck of the ship.

Oh...it's Kauri. Hey, kid, you okay?

Kauri nods silently, holding the blanket around himself.

Ship

We were all really scared earlier. Do you have any idea what happened there? Besides the obvious.

Kauri starts fiddling with the blanket. "He made fun of me..." He murmurs.

Ship

Jerrid climbs off of the bench to look a bit closer at the kid. Catching what he had said Jerrid's face contorts a bit before calming down.

Well...he's a real rotten sack of bones for making fun a kid. Trust me when I say the next time we see him, we'll give him an appropriate punishment. What do you say? I'm sure we could let you get in a hit or two.

He nods again.

(By this point, Ira has come back above deck and has been dozing. He hears Jerrid and Kauri talking and stirs awake.)

Oh, Kauri, glad to see you back up and at 'em again. (He says.) What are you guys talking about?

Boat

Oh, we're talking about the incident earlier. Kauri, he gave you that beast blood stuff. Do you have any clue of what kind of power that gave you? Something you could uh...test right now while we're still on the way to that island.

Well...

Jerrid briefly becomes deep in thought before looking back at the boy.

We can help you test them now, no? We can probably find some planks and set them up for you or something.

Did Georgia tell you anything else about what the stuff might have done to you? (Ira asks Kauri.)

He shakes his head. Honestly, he doesn't have a single clue what these (cow?) powers could be.
