iirc, some dialogue of his was datamined along with everyone from Kombat Pack 1, Fujin, and Shiva. Then Bruce Campbell said on Twitter that it wasn’t happening. Then there was apparently a banner on the Xbox Live store that ended getting pulled saying that Ash was part of Kombat Pack 1. So it seems that it was planned to happen, but something fell through.

He goes through the story mode, doesn't betray anybody, and then after Kronya or whoever the final boss is is defeated, Shang Tsung steals Liu Kang's soul then peaces out.
