I am calm? I'm just confused why you would say you don't know what to call it if you know what it is.

I'm playing with Skarlet right now, and a couple of dialogues are making me wonder if this is meant to be present day Skarlet. Jax mentions an encounter with his little girl and Kitana mentions Mileena taking her legs (Skarlet: She tried. I saved them.)

Also, I may be late to the party noticing this, but only this week did it click that Noob Saibot sheathes his weapon in himself...

Pretty sure the dialogue is meant to be present Skarlet, given the one in Story is from the past and Kotal seems to believe she’s dead.

At the same time present Skarlet is never involved in the story at all, so I never expected it to be anything but past Skarlet.

The intro dialogue seems to be whichever incarnation of the character is most convenient at the time, which can get really confusing.

Some of Sonya's are past Sonya, some are future. Most of Johnny's are past but a few are future, etc.

If I had a complaint about the pre fight dialogue, it'd be that particular inconsistency. At least bi think it'd be neat if there were dialogue options unique to, for example, the Revenants vs their human counterparts depending on which skin you're using.

Where earlier the issue was how the dialogue can be casual, even friendly, before he fight, to me it's more jarring to hear Revenant Jade talk about Kotal warmly or have friendly banter with Liu Kang or Kung Lao. Particularly given the Revenants are the default skins.

Anywho, right now I'm letting AI Skarlet fight through a character tower for unlockables, but I played her manually to build up the uppercuts and throws for the last two towers and really like her.

She was a bit awkward for me in beta, but now I have enough of a feel for the game in general I've come to like her for much the same reason as Jade: I like the mid-range aspect their fighting styles have, like their longer sweeps (when Jade has "Deadly Assassin" equipped).

I think for me it's the revenants. I actually prefer playing certain fighters as revenants and others as their living counterparts. I prefer revenant Kitana and Kung Lao, but prefer living Liu Kang for instance. But their pre-fight dialogue doesn't change at all depending on their skin. Revenant Kung Lao still talks like the living one.

The game does seem to have a problem in giving the wrong intro dialogue for a few characters. One example being revenant characters talking about their revenant.

It’s not that it’s playing the wrong voice clips. It doesn’t differentiate between costumes.

I can sort of understand why. There’s a wide variety of entrance lines, but if they’re tied to specific costumes then someone plays Kung Lao exclusively as a human, or exclusively the middle-aged Johnny Cage is going to be stuck with a much smaller number of different intros that will get old quicker.

It makes it more incongruous to see Revenant Liu Kang talking about avoiding becoming a revenant in his future, but I understand making the choice to have intros be potentially a little confusing for the benefit of getting to hear different dialogues.

It is odd given MKX restricted dialogue between the Revenant versions though, which prevented the contrast from happening.

And as a result, you ended up hearing the same couple dialogues over, and over, and over.

I think one of my favourite things ever was finally noticing that Kung Lao's fighting style seems to be heavily inspired by Ip Man, Bruce Lee's teacher. Which is ironic as Bruce Lee was the inspiration for Liu Kang.

Um, Ip Man is played by Donnie Yen not Bruce Lee.

Edit post: sorry misread the post. My mistake.

Ed Boon to Announce One of The Final Two ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ DLC Characters?

As you saw from the first Kombat Pack DLC announcement trailer, while we’re getting Spawn as a guest character for Mortal Kombat 11, there are still two characters to be revealed. It now seems that one of those characters may be revealed soon, courtesy of Ed Boon himself.

The story behind this is that at E3, Ed Boon pleaded with fans to help him find his friend’s stolen car, with the incentive that Boon would reveal one of the last two characters to be in MK 11.

Well, that car has now been found, meaning that Boon will have to give up the goods. Of course, everyone is still wondering if Evil Dead’s Ash is still one of the characters, (in spite of Bruce’s continued denial and teasing).

Then again, Boon didn’t say when he’d be revealing the character, and given his past trolling of fans, we might have to wait, after all.

Wow, I didn't think they would find the car before it got reported by the cops.

I still doubt Boon will actually keep good on his word without being a smartass about it.

Yeah, that bothered me too. This wasn't a problem in MKX; they made it a problem in MK11.

It's one of the many reasons why 11 left me feeling underwhelmed. X was amazing and 11 just doesn't measure up.

I look up X intros...... I don’t see the difference.

It’s pretty much the same as 11, boasts, jokes, interactions, threats to kill each other or acts of friendliness.

So what's the general opinion on Shang Tsung, for anyone who's had a chance to try him. I've played him in some Towers of Time and let the AI do a bit of fighting with him, too. He seems to me to be very much a range heavy fighter, though playing as him I find him less difficult to use than Cetrion.

They changed his shapeshifting now. Not just the moves that utilize the unused ninja but also in that his Soul Steal turns him into whoever he's fighting if it hits.

Soul Steal has always done that. Or at least, it did in 9.

In the early games when Shang Tsung shapeshifted, each character had a specific command for the transformation.

I assume the Soul Steal thing is because there's so many characters to start with that's impractical
