Yeah, something fucky is going on in Netflix's leadership department if they think that Boss Baby and Big Mouth are the ideal to aspire to instead of actual good shows.
Numbers aren't everything! Are we going to even see some shows that are supposedly going to be put on it eventually like Wings of Fire and that Redwall series?
I'm worried about that Nimona movie they recently announced.
I think that one should make it through considering it’s reportedly quite close to finished and a one-off film rather than a full series. It also has the backing of another studio rather than just Netflix itself.
x3: For reference, we have a Wikipedia page on Netflix Animation's current and upcoming content.
So far, My Dad, The Bounty Hunter seems to be safe, according to some staff members currently working on the series.
Wings of Fire is technically produced by Warner Bros. Animation, much like Green Eggs and Ham. It's likely safe, as the Drew Taylor article points out Netflix is more interested in acquired/third-party shows now.
Likewise, the Redwall animated film seems to be okay (Patrick McHale, the director, is somewhat active on Twitter and hasn't changed his bio).

That's good. Those last two I have high hopes for, since they're both really good series that deserve good adaptations.

The problem here is the fact that any other animated show streamed on Netflix will have to compete not only with more established animation studios from western countries, but also against animation studios from Asia, mainly Japan and China, which would be an up-sided battle for them.

Oh dear! Now that Netflix Animation has been erased, what will happen to The Cuphead Show!? Is the show still safe because it has been renewed for two more seasons? I'm worried.
It'll be fine. Netflix is unlikely to cancel anything they've already ordered and paid for that already has stuff released, especially since it's not an in house produced show.
That's the important thing to remember. This move screwed over a ton of people. But Netflix outsources a ton of stuff. It's like how Hilda's actually owned and produced by Silvergate Media, Netflix just has broadcast rights.
With outsourced stuff, Netflix generally can't cancel already commissioned and paid for content.
But honestly...there were warning signs. Like with how Netflix killed that studio that made Maya and the Three by cancelling their other two projects and the only reason they released Maya is because it happened to have been finished just under the wire.

Not Three Laws compliant. So, Sonic Prime will probably last one season...
Or multiple seasons that are actually one season sliced to pieces.
So depending on your perspective either the "second" season is guaranteed or it never even existed.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaIt was almost certainly a single "block" order, but intended for release in two parts.
Not Three Laws compliant.Netflix's leadership needs to be replaced clearly.
Sanity is the Lie, there is only Madness. And one of those warning signs, not noticeable to English-speaking viewers, but to us, at least, who speak Spanish in Latin America is the quality of the dubs of some of the Netflix series that have come out in the last few months, as they are starting to rely too much on Colombian Spanish dubs.
For those who do not know how dubs is handled in that region, the dubbing done in Colombia is particularly infamous for being of very poor quality, with some honorable exceptions, bad translations, wooden acting, and, at least when dubbing anime, the inability of Colombian voice actors to correctly pronounce certain Japanese names and words, like Kenshin being pronounced as "Kenchin", Shinjiro as "Chinjiro", and the like.
For Netflix, using Colombian voice actors, rather than Mexican or Argentinian voice actors, means that the company is trying to cut expenses on dubs, as Mexican voice acting, while good, is also notorious for being helluvah expensive for media companies to pay. This is especially more notable on some series, like Blue Period, whose Spanish dub is basically terrible to hear, and The Cuphead Show!, when Cuphead's voice actor sounds like a 50-year old man, rather than a kid, at least compared with the original English, the European Spanish dub, or even the Japanese dub, the latter two dubs are pretty good.
Bone creator Jeff Smith reacts to the Netflix Bone series getting canned in a way that rings more than a few bells.
(Needless to say, he's less than pleased.)

Actually sat down to watch the second half of Pacific Rim: The Black last night.
Slept on it for a bit.
Yep, still disappointed. The Netflix Curse has claimed another innocent victim.
I still need to watch that. Netflix did a terrible job promoting it.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).I watched the entirety of the Black and loved it, is something wrong with me?
I barely pay attention to advertisements and mostly follow creators and reviews, that’s how I found out about the show.
I liked the first season well enough to be interested in season two and it still snuck by me. I follow creators and reviews too, but I was still surprised when I found out it came out. Not to mention the whole point of marketing is to attract as wide of a net as possible.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Netflix does not know what to do with its vast catalogue of stuff.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Allowing mountains of garbage and mediocrity to pile up creates a lack of focus. Their marketing really highlights this. My family and I love our subscription but I can’t deny their idiocy and it hurts to enjoy their good content.
The “watch again” section is present on the front page every now and then. Skimming through it is how I get my information.
I’ve enjoyed my share of Netflix’s garbage only to be told I’m not critical enough. I don’t want to seem like an idiot but I feel content right now.

Like for real, the people running Netflix don't know what they are doing, they need to fire the current heads.
Sanity is the Lie, there is only Madness.Netflix has axed two more in-house animated series that were in development: Dino Daycare and Boons and Curses:
Dino Daycare, created by Jeff King, was announced in 2020 as part of the first slate of animated shows that Nee (Doc Mc Stuffins) was overseeing for Netflix. The show was to take place in a world where dinosaurs never went extinct and a 6-year-old boy helps out at a nursery for baby dinos of all shapes and sizes.
Another of the shows from Nee, Ridley Jones, debuted on Netflix in 2021, and the third, Spirit Rangers, is slated to premiere later this year. Nee has also collaborated with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions on Ada Twist and the School House Rock-esque We the People.
Boons and Curses was created by Jaydeep Hasrajani (the 2016 Powerpuff Girls) and initially set for a 2023 premiere. The story inspired by ancient South Asia centers on a young warrior — who thanks to a curse is now made of butter — who takes on an evil ruler. The show was announced as part of a set of titles featuring Asian American creators and protagonists.
Staff attached to Boons and Curses are particularly crushed by the news.
- Jackie Cole (DC Super Hero Girls 2019) predicated◊ this would happen◊ upon the initial report about Netflix Animation. A year's work down the drain.
- Ian Laser reaffirms the layoffs.
- Marcy Bones:
They dropped this news on us literally within the hour of a production celebration that we were going to have for our first episode shipped. Now, it's all stopping.
They told us their main reason for cancellation was trouble they were having deciding if it belonged in an "action" slate or a "comedy" slate. I'm sure you can decide on the validity of that yourself.
i was literally doing some thumbnails going into the meeting lol. and then i just stopped.
They also told us that the budget at Netflix in general has become too tight to keep the production going. One wonders if they're still making all those expensive Dave Chappelle specials."

Netflix made dinosaurs extinct again
Also sad about Boon and Curses, since that one had Nabi Haider Ali working on it and his art is amazing.
Wait. These series were in the middle of production when they were axed? Aren't there... absolutely basic contracts protecting them from that sort of thing?
I've heard that Netflix is apparently planning on adding commercials, or are at least thinking about it.
