The Heartstrikers/DFZ

Two series by Rachel Aaron. The Heartstrikers is a five-book series that finished a while ago, and DFZ just started.

First off, Heartstrikers: Julius Heartstriker is the youngest member of the biggest dragon clan in the world. When his mother is finally fed up with his "being nice" and "not killing people" nonsense, she seals his dragon form and drops him in the DFZ, the only city where dragons are killed on sight. After magic came back a few decades ago, the water spirit Algonquin destroyed Detroit in revenge for all the pollution dumped into her lakes, and now rules the city as the Detroit Free Zone. The DFZ has absolutely no rules except those relating to pollution and killing dragons on sight. If Julius can't prove his worth soon, his mother will eat him. Also features a mage, a death spirit, and a seer who is married to a pigeon.

The sequel series, DFZ, takes place twenty years after the end of The Heartstrikers. Opal Yong-ae is a Cleaner for the DFZ, meaning that when apartments have been abandoned for a month she comes in to clean them and make them ready for the next tenant—but she gets to keep and resell anything she finds inside. The first book, Minimum Wage Magic, starts with her finding a dead body, and desperately trying to find some way to make money off of everything while a looming debt is creeping up on her. Also features an overprotective AI, a cyborg, and the living soul of the city.

Yep! I love these series! Serieses? I'm sure DFZ will pickup in further installments (needs more dragons). Heartstrikers is a great complete series read and is a super fun modern fantasy adventure. I love the worldbuilding too!
