I'm having flashbacks to the Christian Bale tapes.

[up]This is a far sounder reason to yell. It’s not just you, it’s everyone else on set that is in danger.

I can’t fault him for getting angry.

Plus I believe he's got at least some producer credits on the film as well so it's not just his personal position he's got to focus on but the status of the production too. Bad Covid compliance will actually come back on him personally.

Hell, even Christian Bale's outburst wasn't completely unwarranted.

Well, I dunno. From what I read he yelled at crew members for standing 6 feet from each other near a monitor.

To which I am like, "Well Tom, if you’re so concerned shouldn’t you guys not be making a movie at all right now? No one NEEDS another Mission Impossible."

I see a man screaming at his staff while they basically follow the rules, while he makes probably another couple million dollars, which is only happening because the industry he worked in has the money to bribe the government to let them stay open, while other businesses are dying and children aren’t being educated properly.

What happened was that two crewmembers were reportedly standing too close to each other near a computer screen in violation of COVID-19 rules, and Tom Cruise was yelling at them in response.

They weren't following the rules.

[up][up] Currently, people need work. This year stopped several industries cold, and it did a lot of damage. Getting back to work is important, and there are rules to follow if we are gonna get anything done in this time.

Wake me up at your own risk.

And keep in mind not following these rules is exactly why we're still in this mess (well, one of many).

I have no affection for Cruise as a person but this is a good channeling of his clear insanity.

It is a work environment, so precautions need to be taken. That said, context always matters. Standing 5'6" apart or removing a mask for a minute because your glasses are fogging up (which is a recurring issue for me) is a big difference from a flagrant ignorance of the rules.

This is a good use of his usually boundless wellspring of insanity. Now if our government actually funded more bailout provisions, they wouldn't need these glorified make-work projects to keep people afloat.

...I swear, one of these days Tom Cruise will die while filming.

And that would be exactly the way he prefer.
