...Well, it does seem lighthearted, but it looks like it's drawing a lot of beats from New 52 Billy...hopefully not that many.
One Strip! One Strip! My only experience with Nu 52 Billy was in Justice League War, where he was a complete asshole. He doesn't seem like a complete asshole here, so I guess that's an improvement.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. This looks fun and lighthearted
Best trailer I've seen all year, would watch again.
Regarding the movie itself: in the words of Barret (circa Final Fantasy VII Machinabridged), "Don't #&%^ up."
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Even I have to admit the light-heartedness of this has me excited.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!The only downside is definitely that it takes elements from the infamous New 52 comics. But given its more fun tone and Billy isn’t acting like a dick in the trailer, I’m willing to let that slide.
While we do have a few beats from New 52 Billy "cut by my emo edge" Batson, it does give off that he is ultimately a good person. I like it better when he, if the trailer isn't misleading us, gets his powers running away from bullies he nailed in the crotch rather than being randomly being wisked away.
Just from the trailer, I have a feeling that Billy will probably start all grumpy and emo, but develop away from that.
Man, I feel like this is going to be Spiderman Homecoming of DC. I absolutely loved that one so I'm really looking forward to this.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Probably because as a ripped 30 something with unfathomable magic powers he doesn't have to put up the same though guy act he normally does.
I love the costume. I think it looks great and dodges the DCEU's tendency to over design everything, my only gripe is they aren't doing the side cape look, but that's pretty minor and might have been harder to shoot around.

"Say my name so my powers may flow through you"
"But I don't know your name sir"
"Shazam"
"For real?"
"Well it was Captain Marvel, but there was an exceedingly convoluted situation involving copyright law and other universes, and Shazam was always the actual word used to manifest my powers, so yes for real."
Wait Captain Marvel was never the name of the wizard.
The wizard was always Shazam even before the rename.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I thought that was the case, I really just wanted to shoehorn in a joke about the exceedingly convoluted legal history of the Captain Marvel name and that was the best I could come up with.
Looks really fun. I'm glad Mark Strong got another chance to play a DC villain.
This looks pretty fun
35 year old white man.Should have gone with Captain Thunder as his new superhero name, otherwise, the idea that he transforms back to Billy anytime he introduces himself won't leave us.

Wake me up at your own risk.I mean the idea that he transforms whenever he says the word and has no control over it was kind of dumb.
He can always dodge the lightning, which he does in the comics every once in a while (though not really for that purpose).
Captain Marvel junior had the same problem so he often called himself CM 3.
The trailer is already more fun than the entire DCEU that has been released yet

Also can we not call Billy Zemo ? He’s an orphan growing up in the foster care system, he’s displaying a reasonable amount of angst here.

Looks good...hopefully the foster care and always running away / wanting to do everything on his own thing provides some strung emotional arc to all this fun.
I with they had picked a different actor for Shazam, someone who is naturally ripped, but otherwise, I have no complains so far.
Believe it or not, according to an 80's story written by E.Nelson Bridwell, Shazam himself was a super-powered champion millennia in the past, and he said the word "VLAREM" to evoke his powers. According to current continuity, the name "Shazam" is a title, the wizard's actual name being "Mamaragan"
Well, I still think The Rock should be playing the title character but hey that's just me.
Damn this actually looks like a lot of fun. Hope it does well.

The Rock doesn't even want to play Shazam, though. I'm pretty sure he wants to play Black Adam, which could totally still happen.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
