I only really know Batwoman via her appearance in Elseworlds (and Batman: Bad Blood before then), but she struck me as rather hostile or snippy to Ollie, Barry, and Kara. (Pretty sure she told them to get out after the Arkham Asylum scene in Elseworlds?)

Is that a normal characterization of hers?

It must be like Bruce's growling "this is MY city" attitude.

Dunno, but Gothamites are defensive of their hellhole.

Yeah, being an asshole is kind of a part of being a member of the Bat Family (well, mostly. Dick and Tim are quite nice, actually).

Sort of...?

She's not really territorial the way Bruce is, and tends to be more accepting of outside help (and in providing help herself).

What she doesn't like in fellow vigilantes is when they do it primarily for fun and/or recognition (or when she perceives them as doing so). She also doesn't like foolishness, which kinda applies to the trio's case.

Okay just saw the trailers.

Goddamn those dislikes. Not saying I disliked it but damn it has more dislikes than likes. Admitably a couple lines are bit on the nose.

Should be an interesting show.

[up]Yeah, those lines are eyeroll-worthy, but hardly upsetting. I mainly dislike them for being inaccurate to the character.

Don't read the YouTube comments. They are filled with misogynistic and homophobic garbage. I literally read ones that said, "I can't wait until they paralyze her" (not realizing she isn't Batgirl) and "Why do they have to make characters who aren't gay gay?" (not realizing that the comic book version is also gay).

I mainly dislike them for being inaccurate to the character.
From what I've seen in the trailer, she seems pretty comic book accurate to me.

From what I've seen in the trailer, she seems pretty comic book accurate to me.

Mostly she is from everything that's been shown. But in the comics she doesn't say things like "They think I'm him. I'm not gonna let a man take credit for a woman's work," or that line about the suit being perfect "once it fits a woman". Regardless of whether such lines are good or bad, she just doesn't talk like that; it'd be the same thing if TV!Kate went around regularly using Big Words or telling fart jokes.

That said, the first line here makes me think this is supposed to be part of a character flaw on her part; she's jealous of Batman for not getting the credit she thinks she deserves for her work, which is another thing that's simply not part of comic!Kate's character. And in Elseworlds, she doesn't talk about either Bruce or Batman in that way. So it seems like those sorts of attitudes will mellow.

"Why do they have to make characters who aren't gay gay?" (not realizing that the comic book version is also gay).

This happened when Black Lighting aired too. Some jerk complained about Anissa being subjected to Adaptational Sexuality despite the character being a lesbian in her original incarnation.

[up]I don't know, that stuff sounds like something Kate would say even if she's never said it to me.

[up] She does have some trollish tendencies, so I can maybe see her saying those sorts of things in that sense. But not unironically. The jealousy part is flatly wrong anyway compared to her comic version, regardless of phrasing.

I mean, Kate would totally want people to know it's Batwoman, not Batman, that's doing the work. I mean, there's a reason she's wearing a bright red wig.

I also really, really hope we see other Bat-related characters, like Spoiler, in the show.

I wonder if the Robins were a thing here.

Also wonder where Batsy is, hopefully they don’t portray him too much of a douche when he eventually shows up.

Yeah, I think that's true for this Kate. We clearly know that's what happens, and it makes for a natural way for her to progress into her own superhero identity while hopefully maturing out of that need for recognition.

Compare that with the comics, where even being any kind of Bat at all was never her idea. The adaptation is markedly different in a lot of ways, but it also seems to be accounting for those differences.

[up] I don't think they'd care about likes, but rather views. It's already got over a million views across both official accounts, and is #2 on YouTube's trending list. They're not gonna fold for a bunch of brigading pissbabies, and I doubt they would even for an unsuccessful marketing campaign.

I'm not a rightie, but I didn't like the man-baiting in the trailer either. And I thought Alice acted the panties off of everyone in it

[up] "Man-baiting"? Is that like saying "Hey, there's a woman in this show and she doesn't want to be mistaken for a man"? Because...I don't see how that's man-baiting. Insecure-man-baiting, maybe, but I, for one, didn't feel baited.

Agree about Alice, though. I like Rachel Skarsten in the role.

[up][up] Really my only issue is the “suit is perfect” line cause I think this version “It will be perfect.... when it fits me” sounds a touch more badass.

[up] Wow that is...... something.

I'm sorry but the whole 'Woman's work' line was bad. What was she expecting exactly when she decided to wear the bat suit and made no alterations to it?

Of course people are going to think your batman if your wearing his suit and fighting crime like he does.

Should have just added the red hair from the beginning.

[up]Assuming there's no other context to that line, it could be that this version of Kate is, at least initially, more concerned with recognition than anything.

This looks awful. All there really is to it. Batwoman was always gonna be a hard sell but making Kate such a glory hound and a jerk is not going to endear her to anyone.
