Gonna be a bit annoying when you have to basically fight with Netflix to SEE the credits. XD

Netflix is usually good about not skipping new content, even if it is part of the intro or credits.

If you are interested into seeing the writing of Aaron Ehasz yes, but it has some really awful animation.

All the clips I’ve seen look awful. To repeat what the previous page said - CRINGE.

Is there any reason a writer who is as talented as Eihaz, someone whose praises I’ve sung repeatedly on the Avatar threads, went with this type of animation? Or was it out of his hands?

He is a WRITER. Not an animator. And even if he was he's not in charge, both in making the animation and commissioning it.

The caps are for emphasis, not yelling.

[up]I figured as much, but then I must know who went with this approach, and do they have any regret doing so?

They've said that they were trying to emulate Fire Emblem but... Fire Emblem games don't look like that. Just one and it was a comparatively low-budget remake.

This may come as hypocritical, but everytime I post about how awful the animation is, I expect a load of criticism about not being so judgemental this early on to come my way, but then only equally brutal honesty about the animation follows. This both warms my heart in seeing that Im not alone, and breaks it because the more it seems like there's no hope for the animation in this thread.

I'm thinking of giving it a shot but in addition to the animation, I'm also a little weary about a Kids' fantasy cartoon with swords and no Mecha-Mooks to fight.

I'm re-reading it and trying to figure out where I went wrong. It's been a really rough morning, so let me just try again.

On the one hand I'm thinking of watching it on account of the good buzz, despite the trailers being a turnoff.

On the other hand I'm also a bit worried about the quality of the action scenes since its a sword and sorcery fantasy cartoon for kids, and thus swords will likely be useless for anything but Flynning since there are also likely no opponents the cast can get away with slicing up in a family show.

Didn’t Avatar season 3 have a similar issue with Sokka’s sword?

I'm watching the series, the animation is still a bit wonky but I otherwise found it enjoyable.

Finished it less than an hour ago. Very enjoyable and I'm already ready for the next season. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough Claudia.

I haven't commented on the animation beforehand because I hadn't seen anything of it at this time. But, well, it is not THAT bad. I actually mostly like the designs, it is more the movements which throw me off. I have the feeling that they used the computer a little bit too much, or they didn't use it expertly enough. Thus said, I have seen worse.

But it is an ongoing problem with the more recent Netflix shows, they like to cut corners and when it becomes noticeable, it can really ruin the experience.

It's a deliberate throwback to the animation style of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It can feel off-putting at first, but you'll stop noticing it after a couple of decades episode.

EDIT: typo, need more hot brown morning potion. ugh

[up]Boy it sure is reassuring that i'll think the animation isn't poor when i'm in my 50s.

In seriousness, I plan to talk more in detail about the series, but the animation really isn't good, and outright took me out of the experience a few times. Particularly when they did closeups with the low framerate. If the idea was to do it to emulate Avatar Season 1, holy hell that is an awful, awful idea. Ditto that implication from the tweet chain that they did the animation to avoid off model frames or smears.

A corpse should be left well enough alone...

It’s very, very rare for animation to take me completely out of an experience, but TDP did it. I can’t give my thoughts because I cannot get over the animation. It’s not even like Polygon’s material where things feel off but everything blends. It’s too jerky, too off in every department.
