I hope that, if we do get the second season released, that Daisy's wacky parents will be in it.

Daisy has wacky parents?

By the way, did anyone else here hope that Feldrake's friend at the end was going to be Magica de Spell?

[up] That would have been awesome. She's more of a Scrooge villain though. I wonder what she would get out of terrorizing Donald instead?

I guess my biggest issue is with the story telling. As I said, stuff just seems to happen with no real rhyme or reason, so you have important plot points literally coming out of nowhere, with not a lot of real foreshadowing. Like the amulets. They were used in the second episode to open the treasure chamber and weren't seen or mentioned until near the end when it turns out that they had been wearing them the entire time, and they were really important somehow.

Also the way they handled Daisy for most of the show was somehow worse then usual, an profoundly frustrating. (The nieces were great though.)

Magica should just be every instance of a folklore witch. :P

In much the same way that Shelgoose is apparently a family of the same evil rich guy across all of history.

Magica is actually a descendent from Circe so I hope they allude to that.

So, lets see, where was I? Oh yes, episode 11 (Spoilers)

Nope, no Japan. Sorry guys, I was right.

So, the heroes are off to train with... King Arthur. Because King Arthur is all about that heroism these days. Lets see how they muck this one up. grin

Why would they even leave the amulets behind? Can't King Arthur look after them during training or something? I guess they need to for plot to happen.

"And girls, all you need is courage." They're children, Xandra. Untrained children, at that. I don't think they will stand much of a chance.

Oh, wait, the nieces are coming along? Neat, I guess?

Seems like the heroes all but forgot about the Spark of Life. But the villains haven't. Well, we need to get to that Flash Forward from episode 1 somehow, so I think this is how they are going to manage it.

Feldrake's backstory of how he got trapped is hilariously succinct.

Hey, the cake plan works like a charm. And as it turns out, the barrier only works on Feldrake, not on Shelgoose.

Hmm, interesting. So far they've gone to ancient monuments, but never to a fictional one. Well, if we are going by the lore, it should be somewhere in Wales, I think.

King Arthur is a flashy tv host now. I can't help but be a little dissapointed, honestly. I mean, this IS King Arthur, after all.

"... in my quest for the Grail of Immortality." Immortality? That's a new one, I think. And of course it is a fancy drinking cup. I guess I shouldn't expect too much originality on that front.

Sir Kay is a woman, now. This is also new... grin What a very strange choice.

Arthur is all high spirited talk and no action. Which is actually sort of accurate. In most Arthur stories, he stays at court, and other knights do all the adventuring.

Uh... I don't think a torture rack is a good way to train for much of anything. grin I think Old Artie has gone off his rocker.

"You know, there's always room for more heroes." Is he seriously suggesting putting the nieces on the rack as well? grin Run, girls, run.

Yep, Arthur is all meaningless motivational prattle and office team building exercises, now. I mean, nice subversion, I guess, but it doesn't make for a particularly fun episode, I think.

Merlin's here, too. But why doesn't he know who the nieces are? This Merlin cearly isn't living backwards through time.

"Ooh, this appears some kind of image-dungeon." If you don't know what a phone is, then how do you know how to operate it? Swiping right on the screen may seem natural to us now that we are accustomed to it, but even 20 years ago that would not have been intuitive, let alone 1200-odd years ago.

"Arthur doesn't let me play games because of my... problem." Merlin's a gambler, isn't he? He's gonna run up a super high microtransaction bill for Donald, I'm sure.

And again, Merlin knows exactly how the game works, even though he doesn't know what a phone is, let alone a video game.

There's also Shelgoose shenanigans going on in the Cabana, but that's not very intersting, either. Just chasing around and such.

Arthur's training method is getting... weird. Walking on coals now?

Also, Donald falls face first in the coals (or is shoved, rather), but somehow jumps up holding his glowing bottom. This is just plain sloppy.

"There's no I in Camelot!" "There's no I, but there's a me." Nice comeback, Donald. grin

Yep, Merlin's addicted to the game.

So the nieces summon a dragon, because... because. They are being rather daft here. What did they THINK was going to happen?

I love how the dragon kneels in front of the nieces before flying off, as if to say thank you. grin

"This is bad." No shit, miss Sherlock. What did you expect?

Well, the heroes are sick of Arthur's "training", and so are his knights, apparently.

"Finally, some real action!" No, the right answer is "AAH A DRAGON!" grin

Of course the knights are a bunch of cowards. A bit of a shame, really.

How come, by the way, that the Roman Gods were all aged up, but these guys still look young? Oh well.

Well, at least fighting a dragon makes sense here.

Oh great, Arthur wants to TALK the dragon to death. I agree with the heroes, this stinks.

Wait, how did the real Arthur get switched out with the cutout? That doesn't make sense.

Spells that turn you into a fish and squirrel, huh? Right from The Sword In The Stone.

So... the nieces defeat the dragon through moon logic. How... random.

So, Merlin doesn't get what he wanted out of the game (actual money, apparently), and throws it in his magical fire.

Meanwhile, at Not!Apple, a customer service clerk spontaneously combusts and burns up.

Wow... That was... Dark. Talk about a Black Comedy Burst. Someone at Apple seriously ruined a writer's day, it seems. grin

So now the heroes get some actual hero training at last. Good for them. But you'd think they'd done this a few episodes earlier.

Felldrake is now the most favorite... tree... for dogs to hang out with. grin That's a pretty good joke, at least.

So Shelgoose didn't get the Spark of Life, but he got the magic amulets. How did he manage that while fighting Arti? Once again, the show prefers to let the villains accpmplish something off screen when it can't figure out how to have them do it in full view.

And that's it. A bit of a lackluster episode, maybe more because I am dissapointed with King Arthur. He's just really lame here, and that's a shame. I feel this episode was mostly the show dragging its heels for the final stretch.

Optimism is a duty.

Yeah, the King Arthur episode was probably my least favourite one. King Arthur was just annoying and unlikeable, and not in a funny way. And the show never really gave a reason for why he changed his ways the way he did. It seems like a strange omission.

Do you think Arthur was intentionally modelled on Robin Hood's King Richard? They look similar, but not quite so much that it couldn't be a coincidence. Unlike Vomit the Goblin, who is very blatantly Creeper from The Black Cauldron.

[up] honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he was.

And Merlin kind of looks like an owl version of the one from The Sword in the Stone.

Knowing this show, it can't be a coincidence. Some people were mistaking him for Richard before this episode aired, after all.

Its mostly his goofy facial expressions that set him apart.

[up]Merlin is also somewhat similar to the owl from the sing-alongs.

Personally, episode 11 is where the story starts to fall apart a bit.

The amulet thing comes out of nowhere (even if it's kind of predictable). They haven't been seen or mentioned since the second episode, when they were used to open the secret room, and now all of a sudden, they are important? And do they know the significance of the amulets? And if they just think they are nice looking trinkets, then why do they have to take them off, since they would have no idea how to use them.

To be fair, the show seems to recognize a bit, if Feldrake's "they used the amulets to trap me in the staff, the end!" handwave is any indication.

I mainly noted the King Arthur episode as the one that chops down the idea that the nieces are the designated smart ones in this character dynamic.

Unlike Vomit the Goblin, who is very blatantly Creeper from The Black Cauldron.

That's it! I knew I recognized that character design from somewhere!

Uh, the amulets being what trapped Feldrake in the staff was established in the very first episode. It was never a matter of if the amulets would be important, but when.

The nieces haven't ever really been the "smart" ones in this series considering how often they underestimate situation going on on the otherside of mirror(and sometimes indirectly causing problems), they are resourceful yes, but tend to be more of "meh" about everything

So what do you guys think is up with that female Sir Kay? Did a writer see the name Kay and just assumed it was a woman? But she was a knight, so, I can only assume Kay was Smurfetted so they could have a female knight on the team.

I do actually know women named Jose, so she can even keep the name, just like Kay. grin
