Yeah, that name hardly describes the trope. Sorry, but I can't think of any, though.
I used to plug my deviantart here but turns out the link was too long.I agree that the name is pretty unclear, as most people don't use terms like "homosocial" or "heterosexual" as opposed to, say, "gay" or "straight" (and sometimes not even "straight" but just "not gay"). Moreover, "homosociality" seems like just another way of saying "platonic same-sex relationship" and more people probably recognize the word "platonic" than "homosocial."
That all said, the term "homosocial heterosexual" (w/o quotes) comes to 132K results in Google. For reference, "heterosexual" comes to 49.4 million, "homosocial" 375K, "homosexual" 156 million, and "homosocial heterosexual" (w/ quotes) comes to 702 results. Also, "straight sexuality" comes to 229 million and "gay sexuality" comes to 91.5 million.
While I don't think that merely changing the name will fix this issue, I do think it ought to be changed.
This trope seems, to me, to be distinct from Love Triangle or Heterosexual Life-Partners, and if only to throw some names out there, I suggest Friendship Triangle (as it's about the platonic friendship aspect), Platonic Third Wheel, or Lover As Third Wheel. Even Overshadowed By The Friend.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettythose names suggest a "you can't be their best friend, I'm their best friend" scenario to me.
There's a trope in there, but it definitely need a better name.
My secondary account for (mainly) non-serious forum activity.Homosexual heterosexuality merely refers to a same sex relationship that is not sexual in nature. See homosociality on Wikipedia.
It has nothing to do with fighting over a woman. It merely describes very close friendships, basically Heterosexual Life-Partners.
The trope itself is unclear as well. It purportedly only applies to Heterosexual Life-Partners, but an example like Lady Audleys Secret has very clear repressed homosexual tension between the two males, and the woman one male hooks up with is clearly a visual and emotional replacement of the other man, being his sister.
I think before we rename the trope, we should determine if the trope is meant to have homosexual tensions between the men or not.
Optimism is a duty. That might work better...right now this trope seems like a The Same But More Specific version of Heterosexual Life-Partners.
Clock is set.

I stumbled upon this trope looking at tropes for Kingdom Hearts, and scratched my head for a minute or so. The trope is basically "It's a Cock Fight, except it's not so much about the Love Triangle aspect, but bringing the two dudes closer together in friendship or focusing on their relationship."
Which...I think there's a trope in there. The examples fit, but it's not thriving at all and I think it's in major part due the name. It just makes you blink at it and doesn't describe the trope at all. No wonder there's only 26 wicks. I'm not sure if the trope needs to be overhauled, but a rename is definitely in order.
