How to Not summon a demon Lord: Gave it a shot, surprisingly, it's pretty good as a comedy series, got some chuckles out of me. Worth to investigate further.

Remember that LN advert anime aren’t judged on how many Blu-Rays they sell, but how many books they move. That’s why even apparent flops can keep getting sequels - they’re adequate adverts for the main product.

What's precedent ever done for us?

[up] Well that and some deals are set in stone for x amount of seasons, which is why some of the most popular shows only get 2 seasons too.

Monster Strike: Lucifer - Fallen Angel of Rebellion episode 1: Hoo boy, the 3DCG animation quality rivals that of the ones used for idol anime.

So, this will be an origin story about how Lucifer ended up the way she is before meeting Haruma, or an alternate continuity where there's no humans?

Hanebado is well-produced melodramatic all-girls badminton anime.

Watch iiiit it's so good. It also covers my favorite angle with sports anime- dealing with your own inadequacy and crushing mediocrity, which I'm always game for.

According to this very wiki How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord gets kind of dark. Not full on depressing dark, but surprisingly mature dark for a tiddy anime.

Harukana Receive: A girls sports anime that's actually fun, and makes the sport look like something one would want to play? Sign me the hell up! I'm always up for a story of a enthusiastic newcomer discovering the joy of a sport - that's what sport anime is all about!

Satsuriku no Tenshi: Yawn. A horror story that's not very scary and kinda just... boring? I dunno, it didn't really do anything for me.

Sunoharasou no Kanrinin-san: This really feels like a Bleached Underpants version of some H-series. It's funny and I'm kinda interested in the main character quest to become more manly, but I fear I'll get on some kind of list for watching it. tongue

Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria: So mostly a typical Isekai harem series, except this one starts like two years after he got summoned and skips over all the early stuff? Huh. Also, another Isekai where a smartphone plays an important role.

Watched another bunch.

Asobi Asobase - Second episode, I guess? Comedy was hit and miss, but the reactions and the art style kind of make up for it. Guess I'll see where it goes.

Angels of Death - Hm... despite all of the edge, this actually looks well-produced, if a bit too faithful to how the game would actually work (Though I never played it).

Planet With - I couldn't make a lick of sense about this. Is it part of another series or something? I got the sense that I lacked some sort of knowledge about this world that the episode presumed I had... Other than that, it seemed a decent-ish mecha show with some slightly misplaced comedy.

Master of Ragnarok - Oh, show, you take yourself too seriously for something of your level of quality. This looks like it was written in about ten minutes, with as much originality as that description entails. Also, the animation is really off, both 2d and 3d.

Backstreet Girls - No.

Ongaku Shoujo - My eyes glazed over during the CG intro, and never went back to normal.

Sunohara - Tried, it looked fun, but the badly-done subs were killing me. I'll have to try with a different group.

100 Sleeping Princes, or whatever this thing's name is - Poor editing and weird camera work, supported by an uninteresting script. Pass.

Planet With is not part of a series, it's an anime-original story. Although it does have a concurrently running manga as a multi-media project thing. The anime should catch up with that by episode 2, and from there on out no one knows what's coming.

The unexplained weirdness is just part of that writer's style. He's pretty well-known for Hoshi No Samidare and Spirit Circle. Which are... cult classics I guess. I would say his specialty is surreal comedy-fantasy with surprising emotional sincerity.

Hm... I might give this a second try, then. I'll see how I feel when the second episode hits.

Read Hoshi no Samidare. Its great and will work as a good buffer to Planet With.

Both Hoshi no Samidare (also known as "The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer") and Spirit Circle are available on the Crunchyroll manga reader if you're a subscriber.

Oh, Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer. Well, now I know not to bother with Planet With, I suppose; LABH read as a confusing mess that in no way earned the kind of pathos it thought it had to swing around.

It's been fun.

Fair enough. I've seen Mizukami described (by someone who likes his work) as a writer who doesn't seem to understand even the basics of storytelling, and that seems pretty accurate sometimes. Although it's that lack of respect for established rules of narrative that his fans seem to enjoy most about him.

Planet With: Has a lot of heart but the presentation and a few aspects were off-putting.

Chio's School Road and Cells at Work were both enjoyable and the characters are likable enough, so I'm going to keep watching them.

Angels of Death is about terrible things happening to Rachel but it's not quite straight-up misery porn right now and I thought it was the most competent first episode out of the ones I've watched so far with an intriguing set-up, I am dropping it if does end up just being misery porn.

And yeah, just a note... I created a thread for Phantom in the Twilight anime... So if you want to discuss about it you can do it in there tongue

The Thousand Noble Musketeers is okay. It's not terrible, and it's not really good either. It's a little underwhelming. Feels like the concept of the souls of old guns come to life could be explored in a more interesting and dynamic way than how it is. The amount of gun research that clearly went into this series is impressive, at least. History buffs who are really into ancient guns might get a kick out of it, but the category is small and doesn't include me.

Two more from yesterday:

Janshin-san Dropkick! - It's a bit all over the place, but if you like it's brand of humor, there's merit in giving this a second episode. The first one starts out very confusing, simply dropping you in the middle of what looks like it should be the second episode, with no explanations outside of the OP, and expects you to put things together from context clues, but once you get past that, it can be fun. I think this might just be my kind of humor, so I'm giving it a second shot.

Holmes of Kyoto - It's charming and earnest, but I'm not incredibly interested in it. Not that it's not good at what it's doing, but it's just not my cup of tea. I'll hang about for another episode because it looks like it might develop an actual plot, but I can't really see where it's going to go right now.

Asobi Asobase: Olivia was honestly the only one I liked out of the trio as she reached a nice medium between asshole and sympathetic unlike the other two but it is probably one of the better comedies this season, especially with how it uses its visuals.

Phantom in the Twilight: Meeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

Still need to check out Jashin-chan, Asobi Asobase (possibly; depends on how nasty-spirited the comedy is), and possibly one more. I forget which, though.

It's been fun.
