Hazbin Hotel pilot & Helluva Boss

Is the pilot going to be canon now, with all redesigns and the series being produced and worked by a studio, rather than independant team?

Considering that red suit kinda resembles Alastor's maybe she's dressing more like him now.

I mean, if they really wanted to keep the Charlemagne pun, they could make it her full name: Charlemagne Morningstar?

Or that doesn't really roll off the tongue?

Also, is it my imagination or is Charlie's new haircut giving anyone else flashbacks to when Disney's Rapunzel has her long hair bunched up like in the "I See The Light" scene, but without the flowers?

Also, someone made the inevitable comparison to the Lucifer Morningstar from DC Comics.

The change in Charlie's last name tells me that, nah, the pilot won't really be canon once the show rolls out.

Or maybe "Magne" will become Charlie's middle name for the series proper, with "Charlotte" remaining as her legal first name (thus keeping the "Charlemagne" pun) and "Morningstar" now as her surname (since "Magne" isn't a name that's really associated with Satan)? Perhaps it could even be a plot thing (e.g. Lucifer doesn't want the family name tarnished any more than necessary by what he thinks is the Hotel's inevitable failure, so she isn't allowed to openly use the "Morningstar" name while acting in her capacity of running the hotel?).

Charlie really pulls off that red suit well, although I'm not a big fan of the red pupils. Her design already has a lot of red and the black pupils added some nice contrast with her yellow sclera.

Vivienne has released a tweet that seems to indicate that Charlie's design change was more her influence rather than a studio thing. Makes sense given that A24 is advertised mostly as not meddling with the creative process (the voice actor thing was likely more a result of union stuff rather than some kind of mandate).

Will Charlie still be voiced by Jill Harris or will she be replaced too?

Don't know, there doesn't seem to be any information on that.

My personal theory is that “Charlemagne Morningstar” is her birth name with “Charlie Magne” being an in-universe rename to avoid associating herself with her dad. Because when your dad’s friggin Satan, you’d make sure you had nothing to do with him.

Well most of the demons were once human, overlap was kind inevitabile.

Even hellborn demons seem to take after humans a lot. The other rings of Hell outside Pride have similar technology to what's on Earth and some of their traditions are influenced by it too. Take the Harvest Moon festival in Wrath which has Stolas showing the "true harvest moon" from our world rather than some kind of Hell moon.

The suit change is whatever, but I'm one of those in the small "eye change is bad" camp.

Apparently they're always red now, too, which means it's always going to distract me.

Maybe they'd be better for me if they had pupils..

So which main character's redesign do you think will be revealed next? I've seen many people suggest Alastor but I think Vaggie or Angel Dust both have a pretty good shot.

Angel Dust and Alastor I can actually see only getting minimal changes since they're fan favorites with the most iconic designs. Probably toning down the stripes in their outfits or the gradients.

I'd say Vaggie could use a revamp if only because she's supposed to be a moth demon and yet nothing in her current design really conveys that. It wouldn't have to be a physical change like the four arms Valentino has, but maybe something in her wardrobe like a jacket with poofy ruffs that resemble moth fuzz or a longer ribbon in her hair to represent antennae.

I have noticed that the new Charlie's design has a slightly more angular face than the original but I think that could be the result of a moderate artstyle change, we'll probably have to see when the other character designs come out.

I guess everyone else noticed it before me, but the other night I learned that the Hazbin Hotel series by A24 will be animated by Bento Box Entertainment.

Not only do they animate on Bob's Burgers, Central Park, and The Great North, but they also animate Smiling Friends for [adult swim], so Viv's praising for that show got an extra layer of meaning to it.

I didn't know that, how long was that information out?

I wonder if all the people screaming They Changed It, Now It Sucks! realize what a pilot even is. Like, how many cartoons can you think of where the pilot is exactly like the series?

Plus, if they'd been following HH from Viv's early days of her music videos, surely they'd see this isn't the first time the characters have changed over the years, right?

I think I saw someone bring up Bento in the Hazbin Reddit, so some digging around shows me that at the bottom of both posters thus far (the hotel and Charlie), there's text reading "KEEP SPITBALLING LLC./BENTO RIGHTS, LLC."

Some more digging leads me to find that the address of Bento Rights is the same as Bento Box. Ipso facto, A24's Hazbin Hotel is being animated by Bento Box Entertainment.

Remember how I realized that Bento Box Entertainment might be doing work on the Hazbin Hotel series from A24?

Looks like Bento Box went public with their involvement.

The Twitter page for the show now tags Bento Box and Bento Box themselves retweeted the show's tweets about the Hotel and Charlie.
