This trope is need of reparation simply because it's misused. I'm seeing that people assume that a black best friend is literally a best friend who is black. That is not the case at all. The trope is really just about a) how a white person is using a black person as a means to look more accepting b) the black character is just there. I'm seeing a lot of examples where the black character is relevant to the plot and has a meaningful relationship with the main character. I'm not familiar with all the examples and just need people to look at it.
