It bothers me when RE characters swear for the same reason it bothers me when Dante does it. The series is campy and silly and if Leon said "fuck off Saddler you daft old bastard" instead of calling him small time it'd significantly kill the mood.

RE characters in general don't really swear that much. Regardless I don't see it as a problem unless they started to go South Park style.

I knew she has used "SHIT!" before but there's just something hilarious about an unapologetic, clear "Fuck you." from her.

Does Umbrella actually make anything useful, or is it all just bioweapons and other supervillain stuff?

The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."

Umbrella are the legitimate world leaders in medical gear at the start of the game series. The "Medical Spray" you run into throughout the franchise are an Umbrella patent.

Most of the bioweapons are mostly just byproducts of their true goal, which is to find a process to grant immortality.

Also they are the ones responsible for the herb research. Also it's weird that despite the healing herbs being native in the Arklay Mountains, every game that takes place outside Raccoon City have healing herbs, and has a recurring gag of early files referencing them.

Where does it say that Umbrella lead the way for herbs as healing items?

[up]Read it in the wikia entry about herbs. Oh they handwaved it as any herb apparently, though the ones in CV were imported from Arklay.

Yeah I also assumed that the herbs were probably exported and grown elsewhere. But what bothers me is how do the protagonists know how to use the herbs to heal? Does the wiki explain it? Or should I just smile and nod?

Apparently the herbs originated in the Arklay Mountains and Umbrella had taken samples to grow elsewhere near their research facilities (the wiki says Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Base in particular, but I don't think it's a stretch to assume Sheena Island and other Umbrella facilities grew them, too). By 2003 and on their medicinal qualities are so well known by botanists that they're bred all over the world.

As far as how the heroes can use them go, in '98 I don't think the mixing of Arklay Herbs was common knowledge, since Billy, a marine who has no real ties to Umbrella, can't mix them at all. All members of Stars and perhaps the entire Raccoon City Police Department, since they're funded and outfitted by Umbrella, were probably taught how, to justify Leon being able to.

As for Claire... Iunno. Chris taught her some basic chemistry, too, I guess. And after 2003 when they became commonplace mashing them into diarrhea mounds of healing was something your average soldier was taught in boot camp.

Also technology progressed and they can now administer them either through tablets or spraying someone's face with it like a pepper spray.

Not surprised that they corrected the rumor. Of course Nemesis won't be able to break into safe rooms. Safe rooms are literally the game's method for dealing with its invulnerable stalkers. When attacked by an invulnerable stalker, you're supposed to follow the following steps:

  1. Go to a place that the stalker isn't allowed to enter for arbitrary reasons.
  2. Twiddle your thumbs for a while.
  3. Step outside and see if you're allowed to resume playing the game.

I've been assuming since the game was announced that Nemesis would just be a reskin of Mr. X from RE2make, who was himself a reskin of the unkillable cannibals from RE7. Yo-yoing in and out of safe rooms is pretty much THE Resident Evil mechanic since they brought the "survival" back into survival horror.

Taking out the safe rooms would require Capcom to come up with some actual stealth or hiding mechanics to compensate.

I could see them doing it for one special event with a "fake" safe room.

Also, ever since Mr. X became a super-persistent predator, I wanted them to do a Halloween game with him as Michael Meyers.

Yea, I don't see why Capcom would go through that trouble.

So why is it weird for a RE protagonist to use profanity?

Silly game or not, if there was a horde of the undead roaming close proximity around me I would be swearing like a sailor too. Especially since there seems to be this pride on making the remakes more realistic.

Honestly, that's why I found Claire's route to be more engaging than Leon's because she's reacting more to this horrifying situation compare to Leon's level head attitude.

I would even argue that Leon still has the same persona he has in RE 2 all the way to RE 6

There was a lot of vulgarity in general in Outbreak, and they've turned it up in the main series, too. Gratuitous swearing and horror camp kind of go hand in hand in my opinion, though, so I think it's fine.

I thought Leon's lesser reliance on swearing was him still trying to be professional as a cop. Hell, you see him still trying to follow protocol and it takes Marvin aiming his gun at him to get him to wake up.

No, I'm saying I'd love whoever makes the Halloween game to buy the engine and use the code.

It wouldn't be a Resident Evil game.

It'd be perfect for a slasher game, which we really need a definitive version of.

Considering how Leon interact with Ben the reporter, he still was trying to be a cop.

I don't want to downplay whatever training a cop has to go through, but Leon's reaction towards people dying is still stoic for my liking.

Maybe I'm remembering this wrong, but Jill & Chris were pretty devasted when they saw their comrades dying & their corpse. I don't know if this actually happens but I could've sworn that Jill also has a short breakdown somewhere in the RE 1 remake. So feel free to correct me on that.

I'll have to watch RE 1 again because I remember them being genuinely saddened by their deaths.
