Reinbach's Classroom

Ebony's brow furrowed slightly into a small frown at Lucien's admittance, shooting a brief glance of pity over to him. That was... certainly interesting. He 'dabbled in other stuff' because he was considered lacking in telekinesis? That was... an absolutely bizarre inversion of her own situation. Except with a similar outcome.

She pinched her chin in thought as she leaned back in her chair – unknowingly staring at the other esper the whole while. If he was struggling with telekinesis, perhaps she could help him out. It could be something as simple as mindset issues or crippled potential. Nonetheless, if he had natural ability to use it even in an infant stage, it'd be much easier to develop than if he had no psychokinetic inclination to begin with.

It was about this time she realised she was staring and sharply pulled her gaze ahead, a slight flush of embarrassment overcoming her. She really needed to keep a better eye on what she was doing while she was deep in thought like that.

Science Class

Mikael finished just in time for them to swap ray guns for a double-check. While he was confident in his work, he supposed Matten had a point about making absolutely sure.

For a moment, he once again thought of the gender gun incident.

Shaking his head, he examined whoever's ray gun had been placed in front of him, and quickly confirmed that it was build according to the instructions.

Nodding, he passed it back to the original builder, and received his own back as well.

"Well then, what are we waiting for?" Grabbing his own shrink ray, he aimed it at his orange, and pulled the trigger.

Science Class — Honey I Grew the Kids

Unfortunately, Mikael hadn't been quite as thorough as he thought. Either that or whoever he handed his gun to thoroughly screwed the pooch. Either way, things didn't go according to plan. As soon as Mikael pressed the trigger, the gun exploded in a blinding flash of light, covering Mikael with an eeire luminescent glow. Ellie promptly rushed over the second Mikael's gun went up in smoke "(You okay, lover?!"), not that it helped.

"Mein Got!" said Reinbach. He rushed over to Mikael, though he made sure to keep his distance. "I thought I told you to follow the instructions to the letter! Not a single iota must be out of place! You didn't let anyone else look it over, did you?"

Either way, that would soon be the least of Mikael's concerns, for as he looked at his hands, he would soon notice something very peculiar. Namely that he was growing. And quickly at that.

Science class

(Mitch nearly falls out of his desk in surprise at the sudden explosion, and, upon seeing his classmate beginning to increase in size, gapes in shock for a moment.)

Oh...oh man...oh man!! What happened with that ray gun...?! (That’s the most he's said the whole class. He begins nervously looking and moving towards the classroom exit.)

Sam seemed pretty calm, beyond the obvious confusion and feeling that his identity was affected, but he could fix that, even if he had to ask for some help.

But the big explosion brought him back to the real world as Mikael got affected by a beam again.

"Of course" He cursed his luck and looked at the demon.

"Mikael, teleport outside, now" He called, as loudly as possible.

Reinbach's Classroom

Lucy near jumped out of her seat at the bang, and fearfully glanced towards Hei to definitely make sure his chromosomes were intact in a panic akin to a shellshocked survivor of the Vietnam War – only to furrow her brow in confusion as to why that incredibly specific worry was her immediate reaction. She was perhaps about to ponder this further, except she was interrupted with a blanch as she finally spotted Mikael rapidly expanding in size.

“M-Mikael? Um... do what Sam says, actually since that's a really... good... idea...” she trailed off into incomprehensible muttering before shaking herself out of it. “Er, don't panic! Maybe we can enlarge the ceiling?”

“We have shrink rays.”

“Matten, can you bore a hole or something?”

“We have shrink rays.”

“Maybe Hei can use his shadow gates to–”

“We have shrink rays. Use them,” Ebony cut in for the third and final time, a mild look of irritation on her otherwise unperturbed face as she drew her gaze from the sheepish Lucy over to the growing Mikael. “Though there's the risk of accelerating it. Or successfully reversing it and not being able to stop it. Any ideas?”

Saint Academy - Science Class

Mahvash noticed the light pressure instantly. Force of habit. Once that light died down, she noted Mikael growing with some interest before returning to her notes. I'm getting Jak II vibes, even if he's not blue. We are kind of overdue for a size shifter.

Then Rienbach calling her alerted the daeva. Though, I barely understand that language. "Were you lying about your quartz?" she asked the doctor flatly. Square-Cube Law is harsh and Mikael would collapse under his own weight, wheezing, blowing out his own heart, and losing fine control of his body at that size if the doc was exaggerating the stabilizing effects of his rock. Hm. Bummer. But... "If you weren't, then this is just a matter of waiting for you to look over the gun, no?"

If not, well... they'd work on it. Or go into business doing practical effects for the next Jurassic Park movie. Or.

"Ebony." She said pointedly, more irritated at Ebony's way of speaking to Lucy than Mikael gaining several pounds. "We have shrink rays. And you have telekinesis to use them at distance. If you're that worried..." She waved a hand in Mikael's direction. "Think about it. And I mean actually think about it. If Rienbach spoke the truth, then the doctor can spare the 8 seconds to look over your device before you fire it."

The daeva leaned her face against her hand and went back over her notes. If Rienbach got that whole quartz thing wrong, I have a whole section of questions and annotations to scratch out or explore with some other material.

Science Class

"Spoke the truth?" said Reinbach, absolutely indignant. "Of course I spoke the truth! And as I said, this quartz is also capable of growing things, not just shrinking them! In any case, if you were going around letting someone else mess with your gun or didn't let me examine the final results if you weren't sure, then you only have yourselves to blame."

"That said," he said, "yes, we do have shrink rays. However, using them now may not be such a good idea. At the moment, Mikael is covered with the quartz, or rather what is left of it. Might actually have made a Wunderbar research specimen under different circumstances. Another time. In any case, if we attempt to use the shrink rays on him now, we must be very, very careful. For now, we should just use mine. At the very least, it is in no danger of blowing up. Or of having someone putting it together incorrectly."

Science Class

"Owfuckdammitshit." Mikael sputtered as his gun exploded in his hand, knocking him to the floor. He recovered quickly, but then noticed the room getting smaller.

"Oh hell, did I shrink the entire... room... oh. Fich." Great. He was apparently cursed to have untested technology blow up in his face. Grumbling to himself, he turned to Reinbach.

"Yeah, yeah, could you hurry up and-" Mikael's head bumped the ceiling, and he groaned. "Look, I'll be outside, just bring the shrink ray and shrink me back down, ok?"

And with that, he warped himself outside the building.

Outside

He appeared outside the science room's building, still growing. Glowering at the increasingly smaller doorframe next to him, he grumbled some more and crossed his arms. "Of course I wind up being transformed again. It's like transforming me is someone's fetish or some schieße."

Science Class

(Mitch stops inching toward the door and begins looking around at everyone else.) So...uh, we need to take the shrink ray outside to him and get him back to normal now, right? (He asks.)

Reinbach's Classroom

Ebony simply gave a blank stare to Matten, before sighing and instead nodding to Reinbach.

“If you like, I'll attempt using your ray on Mikael and see if it does anything. From a distance, as Matten...?” she half-questioned, peering at the subject daeva to see if she had indeed gotten her name correct before continuing, “...as she suggested. In case it somehow isn't potent enough, we could have the rest of the class quickly fix any other mistakes in these rays and bring them outside as backup. I'll see if I can also remove some of the crystal from Mikael as well, but in the case that it's expanding along with him I don't know how solid a lock I can get on it.”

It was at this rather odd point for an ending to her little plan that she seemed to flicker from sight – only to kick up a massive gust of wind as she presumably boosted herself to a speed beyond ordinary perception. Lucy frowned to herself, looking after the trail of dust for a moment – before turning back to the others with that same furrowed expression.

“Please tell me I'm not the one who thinks there's twenty holes in that plan?”

She would have waited patiently for an answer if Reinbach's shrink ray hadn't trembled and zipped off after the telekinetic – inches away from cleaving her head from her neck. Considering the overall sloppiness of the constructed strategy – plus the fact that the older girl had actually momentarily forgotten the one thing she needed to help Mikael – reminded Lucy all too much of her mother in the midst of a panic she was desperately trying to repress.

Oh. Nice. A telekinetic on the brink of an anxiety attack. That screams wonders for the surrounding six miles.

Saint Academy - Science Class

"I'm used to that look from broken people," Mahvash returned the blank look with an intense one. "Do you really come like that? That's not worthwhile. We already have a Nietzsche Wannabe."

"My name though? I'm styled Druj Mahvash if you want to be formal and glum and distant. "Matten" is a nom de guere that the others continue with from inertia. There is a fun story there, but the gist is taking an old sorcerer's daughter and 'playing pretend' for... 732 days. I had to memorize the details, including the name, because I got too greedy with the whole soul thing. Oh," She waved this tidbit off 'reassuringly.' "I was a starving child then and sloppy. I've learned better for the present."

When Ebony sped off and Lucy asked about the soundness of Ebony's plan well... yeah. But... "She's participating and so energetic though. I'd feel so unkind spoiling her adrenaline rush. Though I wonder if she forgot that Mikael's not really in mortal danger unless his head reaches cruising altitude and he forgets how to lay down to get his oxygen."

Sam just wasn't really paying attention to what the others were saying, and just focused for a second. Everything went colder, making sure to check the surrounding area for anything that could interfere.

"Well, we are clear at least" He commented, evenly "Just aim high, to the chest at least, to keep from hitting something else. At least most wouldn't know if you hit an ant or something"

He'd take the shot himself, but with his trips to the past, he didn't want to risk it.

Outside

Ebony appeared in a flicker, a momentary delay occurring as the strong wind kicked up by her sheer speed desperately attempted to catch up with her. Now that only Mikael was around for now, her anxiety was more present on her face, and as soon as the ray gun pulled up she pushed it further towards him and aimed it at nearly point-blank range.

“Hold still,” she whispered, before psychokinetically pulling the trigger.

Outside Saint Academy

As soon as the beam hit Mikael, their rather abnormal growth spurt came to a sudden halt. For better or worse, their growing had ceased, and they were now roughly the height of the entire building. However, that was about all it had accomplished, as they weren't getting any smaller. If they wanted to get Mikael back to their regular size, they'd have to use their imaginations.

Science Class

(Having moved back from the door and now looking out at the scene, Mitch can tell that his new classmate isn't shrinking despite the shrink ray.)

Um, shouldn't he be going back to normal size now since she used the shrink ray on him? (He asks no one in particular.)

Outside

Ebony inwardly sighed in relief, before turning to address Mitch's concerns.

“The enlarging was caused by a malfunctioning shrink ray of the same potency as this one, just of a different polarity. So it makes sense that the working shrink ray would've only cancelled out the effects. All I have to do is fire again. Should work in overloading it...”

Without further words, she did as stated and remotely pulled the trigger once more – slightly pulling Mitch and anyone else in the vicinity back in the process on the off chance Mikael decided to spontaneously combust.

Outside Saint Academy

Ebony fired the ray at Mikael for the longest time, hoping beyond hope that something, anything would happen. And yet... nothing. Despite Ebony's efforts, Mikael was still tall enough to be a decent double for King Kong. And he was still glowing like a Christmas Tree. Perhaps that was the reason why he wouldn't look too out of place next to Paul Bunyan.

Sam gave Mikael a look, trying to think of what to do.

"Why don't we try with several rays at the same time?" He asked out loud, looking at everyone "Just saying, we should have enough properly working ones to do it"

''Sure, mine might be a rush job, but still, better trust the others" He thought.

Class

I can try... (Mitch says, nervously taking aim at Mikael with his own shrink ray.)

Outside Saint Academy

"Even your clothes grew." Mahvash had made herself comfortable on the roof, leaving with her notes while the class had been busy. "I guess the teacher was giving us the latest and greatest information." She continued busily etching observations into her own notes.

Then for a moment she leaned her face into her hands with a small smile. "I have some desire to send you back to the Abyss like this to retrieve those eyes that I wanted. And to climb on top of that 'castle' and swat at harpies."

The red guy stopped growing when Ebony's gamble actually worked. Though her second shot did not do nearly as well. Would he have just kept growing? Kept gaining mass out of nothing? That quartz and growth rays or more valuable than I'd think. Infinitely growing mass yields infinitely expanding energy.

"Mikael," the daeva called when she finally stopped writhing her hands together. "The class is going to focus several shrink rays on you to try and restore you. And to prevent this happening again, I do hope that they'll leave the heavy lifting to Ebony. And Lucien if he's not too busy. Don't be too surprised and keep us updated on how your health is."

Science Class

Hei stared at the steadily growing and glowing Mikael in surprise before piping his own suggestion. "Um...Maybe I c-can move him somewhere else..where he won't destroy the surroundings?" He offered "I c-can probably make a gate large enough..."

Sam just took his own ray on an ice hand and started aiming. Covering himself with an ice wall, he turned to the closest telekinetic, he spoke.

"Just, pay attention to me" He said "Been kind of blacking out lately, so I might need help if it happens on a bad moment"

Taking a deep breath, he looked at anyone with a the rays, and decided to say something.

"Well, at three?" He asked.

I guess... (Mitch says.)

Outside, Saint Academy

Mikael stopped growing, which was nice. But he was still fifty feet tall, which was decidedly less nice. He grunted, and the sound was deep and loud, magnified by his enormous vocal cords.

"Just shrink me already, damn it." He commanded, crossing his arms as he awaited the class to continue trying to shrink him.
