I bought after watching Quill18 and Northernlion play it. It is really quite addictive. Haven't beaten it even once so far, though. My best run was actually my first (the only one I beat the second boss) so it doesn't seem like I am improving much.
Welp, tried the game today, made to the third boss on my very first try, which I think is the last one from what I've read, with what is basically a Sundowner Build : defense stay indefinitely, attacks with the card that use my defense as damage. Boom 50 damage apiece
The second boss litterally couldn't damage me and I'm pretty sure I could be heard a mile around screaming I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE. Shame the awakened one proved me wrong
That game can be broken so hard in so many directions it's probably going to be the funniest part of it.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I have two completed runs, both with the Ironclad: A Strenght build (Flex + Limit Break + Pummel Strike) and a Headbutt+Rampage engine build. Generally, I die to a random elite on the 3rd floor (the Nemesis is well my nemesis, even after the nerf )
Still trying to complete a run with the Silent, but I always end up making a weird gimmick deck. (Including a Escape Plans + Infinite Blade meme run which ended horribly)
Well, oh boy you're in luck, I wanted to share with you guys a series of 3 videos of Jo I Nrbs overexplaining Slay the Spire
and he beat the game on ascencion 15 with the Silent so I am sure that if you watch you'll gain some insight on how to improve.
Anyway, here is the link to the first video out of 3 :

Oh, three months later, I improved my Silent gameplay since then and I have now completed a lot of run with the class, including one infinite deck . (All in normals, I'm not interested in Ascencion)
So the Defect is out. Won on my very first run with them, and got to the last boss again on my second try (stupid Time Eater...). kind of thinking they're a teense overpowered at the moment, but I really love the underlying mechanics for the character. Building up seven or eight orbs and +3 or +4 Focus and then evoking them all in rapid succession an just watching everything die. Attacks which get better as you use them each battle, that one block that permanently improves whenever you play it. Reasons to keep a big deck rather than always wanting the smallest one possible and lots and lots of powers. Good stuff.
This game is on sale on Steam, but it's still Early Access. Is it worth it? I'm always leery of Early Access games.
Yeah it's worth it. It's in a fully playable state.
Totally worth it. It was worth it when it was just two classes and no daily climb. For that matter, I'd say the changes being made while it's still in development make it an even better value. There's something new every month or two.
Wow, is that the really the last time anyone posted? Well, mods are supported now, and if you want the early access price this week is your last chance to get it before the official release.
Took a quick look at the current mods. Most of the top ones are new characters. Looks interesting, though I don't have time right now. How long have mods been available?
Just this month, I think it was? And yeah, I haven't really tried any of the mods yet. But given there's probably a hundred mods already (some of these were already being developed before official Steam Workshop support), I can only imagine what that'll look like a few months from now.

I think I might get this game after its full release. Sounds like it's right up my alley.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI've never played Netrunner, but from what I understand, there's a lot of Netrunner in it.
They patch it weekly and I've never had a crash, so if you're waiting for the full release, might want to wait for a sale. It's been on sale a lot.
Just finished my first run with the Silent. The poison + Corpse Explosion synergy is amazing. Poison damage gives you a way to whittle down enemy HP while bypassing their block, and you can boost it to hilarious levels with Catalyst (which was pretty much how I won all three boss fights). And Corpse Explosion damages all enemies in a group by your target's maximum HP when you kill it, which is just awesome when facing Flunky Boss types.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Okay, the Watcher is just. Wow. I had no idea what I was doing with her on my first run, was too timid to enter the Wrath stance, and got KO'ed early on. On my second run, the mind-blowing damage-dealing potential of the stance clicked for me. Toss in cards that give her enhanced block in Wrath to make up for the increased vulnerability, like Halt* or Wallop* , pick out some Mantra-enhancing cards to put her into the Divinity stance where her damage is tripled and add the fact that her attack cards are pretty darned good to begin with, and you have an incredibly fun character to min-max.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)This is a fun game but man does the rng hate me. I also just cannot best the final boss. Oh well, losing is still kind of fun.
I like to try different builds based on the first few cards I get from early fights as opposed to trying for any one build.

Disgusted, but not surprisedNecroing this thread because the sequel has been revealed.
I kneel in respect of the GOAT returning.
x2 Why won't this tower stay dead?!
But really, I'm very excited to see what this sequel brings to the table, considering how the previous one popularized a whole genre. Also, hopefully the game is as moddable as the first one.
I wish it wasn't just an animated teaser with no gameplay and a far off Early Access. They announced this a bit too early.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?
Recently, I saw video of a Steam early access game called Slay the Spire. It's a mix between a roguelike and a CCG. You pick a path through a map, trying to get more cards for your deck or improving the ones you have and remove the bad ones, fighting monsters on your way and finding treasures as well to make your life easier.
Here is a video of Northernlion playing the game so that you have an idea of what it looks like.
