And there’s a difference between wordplay and interweaving your points into a plot...and America Chavez. Hell, half the reason Lumberjanes was considered so good (and Noelle Stevenson got this gig I would assume, off the success of that property) is because it was able to be inclusive without outright preaching.

LMAO, that is bullshit, sorry. There are many, MANY factors as to why comic books are no longer popular (Continuity Lock-Out, grossly inflated prices, failure to bring in new readers to replace older ones, books constantly being cancelled and relaunched mid-storyline due to crossover events, the list goes on). Saying it's because of diversity or politics is like saying the U.S. economy is in the shitter right now because we legalized gay marriage or something.

Regardless of your views in the America Chavez comic (I personally found it pretty rushed and messy, but well-meaning), it actually wasn’t a flop sales wise. I’ll find it again when I get home, but it sold about the same as Spider-Man / Deadpool, 26,000 units a month.

Additionally, Marvel’s highest selling store sales book is Black Panther (the year before the movie, and written by a political writer) and its highest online seller is Ms. Marvel. Diversity and politics is not to blame for lower superhero sales. It’s Marvel and DC not taking advantage of the children’s book market and overcounting floppies’ sale to stores instead of trades purchased by customers.

EDIT: Found the source. America sold better than Venom, Thanos, Runaways, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Punisher, and Hulk, and within 5% range of Spider-Man, Spider-Man / Deadpool, and Wolverine.

Politics are a symptom, not a root cause. Preachy, boring, incomprehensible material that these companies continue to double down on leads to less sales and more books getting cancelled to the point Marvel is outsourcing their books to IDW (shame the writers there are just as bad) and this is so Off the Rails at this point that it proves my original point about how everything is a battle in the culture war, when I’m sure a kid would just be happier watching Teen Titans Go and watching everyone be silly for 22 minutes.

Which would make sense if it weren't for the fact that sales are bad across the board, not just for "diverse" or "political" books. There are plenty of series about straight white guys struggling to sell as well. And funny you should bring up the IDW deal when four of the first titles/characters announced were Miles Morales, Black Panther, Spider-Gwen and Captain Marvel.

The conversation was less to do with the culture war and more to do with you making incendiary claims that don't really hold up under much scrutiny.

@comicwriter: You forgot digital sales. I mean why would I drive across town to go to a comic shop that probably won't have what I'm looking for if I didn't pre-order it when I can grab it online with no muss or fuss.

I think it's the pose that skives me out for some reason. I'm not a design major or anything but there's something kind of unnatural about it.

Isn’t it one thing if it’s the fandom, which is ignorable, and another if it’s the staff?

And yeah, if she isn’t fired, then retweeting threats and insults towards your co worker because a fanon ship isn’t in the show is deplorable. I think they should show solidarity with the woman being threatened.

I won't pretend to understand the first thing about Voltron but it seems like most of those posts are just being critical of how the show has been handling its characters and the people who make those decisions?

Lauren Montgomery, the showrunner. The toxic Voltron fandom was threatening her because of jokes made about a character and not confirming a fanon pairing.

None of the tweets in the pics that I see include “threatening to attack her during SDCC”. One only says “I’m gonna send her house bags full of mayonnaise”. (????)

It is rather unprofessional to like tweets about workplace-fanbase drama and she probably should’ve made an alt account or taken a picture if she wanted to keep these, but it’s not yet on the level of calling for violence, that I see.
