Well, it was the easiest boss battle in the game. But yeah. They already know they're not gonna finish the game with 24 episodes, so I dunno what the rush is.

Traumatic imagery of a man oozing black sludge out of his eyes and mouth and his traumatized daughter screaming and crying, cut to "Autonomy." By the studio that brought us Sound of the Sky and AIJOU YUUJOU. Too late for me to reference that? Probably.

Maybe it's actually 30/31 episodes since they're using the calendar.

I know people have criticized the pacing for being too slow or too fast(depends on the person), but this episode was the first time I'd actually felt it went by really quick. Okumura's boss is easy, yeah, but they didn't really show much of the palace itself aside from the intro part and the infamous air locks(which ended up as a transition scene).

I have to wonder if they're still going to cover the rest of the party confidants. Ann(sorta), Futaba, and Haru are still left to go.

I don't have much faith to be honest.

And yeah, this was lightning quick. Then again, they never spent that much time in the Palaces.

Is this pace really not that different from the P4 anime? Cause if so, I must have been really easy to please back when that one was airing, as I thought it was great...not so much Golden though.

[up][up] For better or worse, I'm sure they'll do them.

The P4 anime did just skip a lot of the dungeons too.

Shame too cause P5s are visually interesting instead of random hallway generators.

P4's anime was done by a different studio, I think. A1 did everything else. The closest comparison would probably be the P3 movies, which flowed pretty well I though. But those are also movies so it's a bit different.

Yes but they had the same director for those, De Su 2 anime, and I even think for Danganronpas first anime.

The Persona 3 movies has 3 different directors, according to Wikipedia.

Oh I didnt realize Seiji Kishi was supervisor on the P3 movies. I knew he was working on it.

I know one of the movie directors wished to do a Strange Journey anime.

While they weren't perfect adaptations, I give the animation staff credit for the P3 movies because they at least had the foresight to cut a lot of the fluff out of their adaptation. Where both P4 and P5 anime falls short IMHO is they try to have their cake and eat it too, cramming in the various social links even though they're pivotal to the central plot. It's nice fanservice, but it ends up exasperating the pacing problems

Essentially its a no win situation. They can't do the dungeons right and the main story, and they do a better job on quite a few of the SL, but they also made the MC into bland toast so even the good parts of those aren't as enjoyable.

Seriously this is where Ryuji gives him a nickname like Renren and Im like "This is something I'd rather happen in the games" crosses my mind.

P4's anime definitely does a better job of showing Yu's character. Even P3 gets the protag's stoic but caring personality across.

[up] I think the P3 movies handled the MC the best because they gave Makoto an actual character arc. P4 was okay just because of how quirky they ended up making Yu.

I find Ren pretty flat.

Looks like that's all they're covering for Ann and Mashima, plus Shinya's introduction. Hifumi got some more focus as well.

Honestly, this is actually the most disappointed I've been in this show. Needed that juicy slow burn to Mishima's darkness.

Seeing Ren go full Joker mode in the haunted house in today's episode was pretty amusing.

That and the chalk dodge were my favorite parts of the episode, shame they wasted it on an otherwise boring character.

Today's episode: Sojiro's confidant featuring Akechi.

Didn't realize until this episode that they changed when he found out. Also, not a fan of the changes they made. Futaba basically got shafted to include Akechi and looks like they screwed up with the membership card, though that might be because they going to drop the bridge "gamble".

The only things missing from Sojiro's confidant were the smaller interactions with Futaba, and the last part obviously. Akechi didn't really steal the spotlight.

Yeah. Plus, I think they were trying to use to better establish that Ren is actually supposed to be friends with Akechi.

You don't get much of an opportunity to interact with him beyond the Palace at this point, so this might be them trying to make him more part of the team (he's even in the ending now, which is weird, cause I kinda got the impression that Akechi wasn't really seen as one of them in-universe).

So watching this and seeing the group interact with him again really got me wondering about when Ren and Morgana filled the rest of the team in on Akechi being a spy. There's no way I can picture them being that natural with him (especially Skull) if they already knew, but not telling them right away would feel wrong. I'm really wondering when they all became aware of it.
