The Coke was the reason she was off script.

Along with a buttload of other issues.

It came off as a botch rather than her walking in with the intent to do that.

Yeah.

Maybe the Coke and her issues with Ruth meant she wasn't holding back as much as she should have been, but I get the feeling this wasn't something pre-planned. She just lacked the self control to pull herself back.

I do agree that it's still grossly irresponsible however.

The way the scene is shot, makes me think Debbie's attention was actually fully on the crowd, and she was hurting Ruth because she didn't posses the attention span to pull her punches or read Ruth's responses.

I don't think she intentionally hurt Ruth, but she did knowingly risk Ruth's wellbeing by taking recreational drugs before their match, which is really unforgivable.

I was honestly surprised that Sam didn't make a comment on the coke usage. It was his stash that Debbie was jacked up on, and he was right there in the ring, tag-teaming the cameras with Russell. He probably is the first guy to notice the signs of when someone else is on it, and should've let Debbie know, "you can't be pulling that kind of shit in the ring. Whatever your problem with Ruth is, get your shit together or you are done on this show."

Honestly, whenever season 3 comes around, we need characters who aren't Ruth to be the ones who push and call Debbie out on her past actions. It needs to be characters other than Ruth who force Debbie to acknowledge that if she doesn't let go of past transgressions (real or perceived), her own emotional instability and anger will destroy her. I can see this ending one of two ways: option A, Debbie gets a wakeup call and comes to terms with how things are now and tries to make amends, or option B, she goes further down the path of violence and addiction just to numb herself.

Yeah, weirdly enough, Debbie doesn't have any friends other than Ruth, so she doesn't interact much with the other gals.

I'd like to see Debbie be broken out of her own solitude.

@Whowho Debbie did have some degree of bonding with Tamme, but even that was really only because they're the only two mothers in the show.

I'm all caught up on this show, and I don't get why Ruth didn't take the offer.

Because Debbie basically unwittingly played into Ruth's Inferiority Superiority Complex. Ruth wants more than anything to be a successful actress and be a creative artist at once. Debbie has been a successful actress and now wants to be a successful business woman.

Debbie unwittingly phrased it as, "Well, you will never be a successful actress so come work for me."

Also, it plays into the fact that Ruth slept with Debbie's husband in part because she's always resented her for being better at everything.

So it wasn't a pragmatic reason.

Sam's hospital scene was such a missed opportunity. It was heartbreaking to watch Sam choose to isolate himself instead of letting his people be there for him (you have people now, Sam), so I honestly would've been all for Ruth showing up and knocking some sense into him, which would've nice paralleled Ruth's stay in the hospital in season 2.

Netflix gave female wrestlers perhaps their biggest non-WWE platform yet and they're taking it away from them at the worst possible moment because of laissez-faire spending habits.

They may be benefiting a lot from this pandemic right now but once it's over (and it will be) decisions like this will bite them in the ass hard.

What they're essentially saying is that all the new "hygiene theater" protocols make the show too expensive to produce.

No matter what, this is all very tone-deaf for Netflix. They renewed a show, filming commenced, filming temporarily halted due to the lockdowns, and now the partially filmed season is cancelled, rather than do something more practical like modify their liability insurance to make it so that the production company can't be sued if an outbreak happens on the setnote . Seems like a good way to disappoint subscribers who've grown pretty jaded with Netflix's habit of not giving shows much of a chance after their third season airs (me being one of those people due to the abrupt cancellations of the Marvel shows).
