Okay, that's good. I'd be willing to do whatever I can do to help while Marsha and I are here before we head back out. Could you possibly take us to him? If he doesn't have much on his plate now, which I'm sure he very well could.

Before anything could possibly happen I decide to delve briefly into the very thing I want to discuss with both of them.

It's about what I did while we were out there—I put myself in alot of danger, sir. I put saving the day over keeping msyelf healthy, and it nearly cost me big time. There's other matters to discuss, of course, and all I want to really go in depth with you and Phyllis about later. Get what I'm saying so far?

As the Marduo spoke business with the others in the hall, they could soon hear the sounds of some kind of confrontation echoing down the halls from the meeting room.

"Listen, old mon. I'm not interested in forest spirits or food-chain revivalists. We've been over this. You're one isolated hermit against an entire city. I think the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, don't they?"

"Typical politician, so arcsdamn short-sighted. It ain't just me livin' in those woods, yanno. You'll have a refugee crisis on yer wings - that tends to happen when you destroy habitats, an' where will these mons 'ave left to go? Here! An' then yer right back where you started, an' what then? More woods to cut down? Leave the entire island a desert?"

"I've tried being nice to you, old mon, but I don't have time to listen to your unfounded conspiratorial rambling. We need to source the material somewhere if we want to replace those Kyogre-forsaken old shanties, and where else do you suggest we get it? If you want to help so badly, why not donate that old ship, you sanctimonious old git! Now unless you have something constructive to say, will you please leave?! I have things to do!"

"Fine. I'm done talkin' to brick walls for today. An' mons wonder why I moved out there in the first place..."

Shortly afterwards, a rather old, ragged-looking Shiny Mienshao came wandering out the halls leading to the meeting chambers. He stopped to briefly examine the Marduo present nearby, brushing one of his whiskers, before shaking his head and silently leaving.

Following him were the two figures he was talking with - a Swanna and a Mareanie. The Swanna was wearing an ornate key around his neck, marking him as an important figure, while the Mareanie was carrying some kind of notepad with her tentacle-arms.

"Good riddance... Ultramarine, make sure security knows that he isn't welcome back here. If he wants to complain, he can take it to the front desk like everyone else."

"Consider 'em locked out, may-er..." the Mareanie - Ultramarine, apparently - responded in a bored tone, sounding almost as old as the Mienshao. Had more of a local accent, though.

"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."

My thoughts are briefly ripped away from the present discussion with Angelo as a cavalcade of mons suddenly seem to have gotten into some kind of argument. Certainly rude and unexpected, but, in the crowd of them is the...the mayor. I try to change my stance to one of showing a more serious air.

O-Oh. Mr. Mayor. Certainly glad to be present before such a man of your stance once again after all this time. How are things here? I want to try and help as best I can.

Damn, that wily fox is here already? Royal thought to himself, backing away a bit. Not good, I haven't even gotten a bit of sparring in since coming here...

The Raboot's concern doubled over as Maxwell used an Awakening Seed on himself, but his long ears perked up a bit as he picked up on Maxwell murmuring about an apparent weakness.

"... Someone take the front" the Raboot whispered.

(Yes, Delilah, that is Maxwell. He's an infamous con man who gives adventurers what are known as "Lookalike Items". They look like the items they imitate, but they have different, sometimes opposite, effects. For example, you know that the Oran Berry heals you when you eat it, right? Well one of his wears is an Oren Berry, that damages you if you eat it. There are many others, such as the Wander Gummi, that makes your eyes blurry instead of boosting IQ or a Mix Elixir that works like a normal Max Elixir, but only on Linoone for some reason. And Royal, he is looking for me and only me. I’ll distract him and you fallow behind him and attack! Do you have any Fighting-type attacks?) I said using Telekinesis.

Mayor Cygnot turned to address the two individuals now standing before him. One of his eyes almost seemed to be bugging out, and he rubbed his head in apparent frustration. "...I'm sorry, do I know you two?"

Ultramarine shook her head and, without missing a beat, tapped the mayor on the shoulder and, as he lowered his head, whispered something into his ear. The Swanna's eyes bugged out again, this time in frantic realization, as he snapped to attention, taking a moment to dust himself off and polish his key.

"O-oh! Yes, you! You, you... I remember you, you took care of that Dusknoir that spat out all that mind-bending smoke! At least, you did," he said, pointing at Marlon. "How are things? Well... they are what I would call... in the midst oooof... a developing situation. An improving developing situation! Dr. Serris has agreed to provide us with some funds we need to tear down those slums and replace them with a more efficient, more modern development. Just like you and your Diglett friend asked us to! And whoever said I don't listen to my constituents?"

He turned to address Marsha, raising a brow, thinking for a moment. "And as for- yeah, don't worry about him. He's not important. Some hermit from the woods. Supposedly a legendary battler, but, you know, this isn't the stone age."

S...Serris is financing this whole thing? Did he escape Hoard just to come back to Silversand? What is he planning? So many questions fly through my brain as I try to justify anything I'm hearing right now. Not helping matters is his mention of Jani, either, considering we haven't seen her since she left with that group of adventurers and never really came back...I shake the concern off and regain some composure.

That I indeed did. I wanted to see this place get some real improvements, and that's certainly some good news. At least, compared to what we've been through out on the road, but I'm sure you've heard about what we've been up to. While Marsha and I are here back in town we'd like to help the effort in any way we can manage. What could we possibly do?

Also, "Doctor" Serris? What's he a doctor of? Certainly not a doctor of basketball.

Before she can speak her mind about the Serris situation, Mila is cut off by a suddenly appearing Orbeetle, and a Thievul that seems to be chasing after him. Mila takes little time pulling herself away from Autumn's relative warmth to get a better look at the situation, just in time to see the opposing mon use... something to power himself up. Considering her options, the Raichu moves further to the side, hoping to get a clear angle, and tries to remember what she'd been practicing over the last week. Charging up chunk of energy, she shoots out a haphazard net of electricity towards the Thievul, hoping the Thunder Wave would slow him down enough that she could decrease the risk of someone getting seriously injured.

"I don't know what's going on here, but could you please try talking this out first?"

Autumn, in the meantime, pushes her way towards the front of the group, ready to try to protect them should things get out of hand. She doesn't seem happy, judging by the frown on her face, but she makes no comment to her companions about the situation— at least not yet.

I need to update these things more often

(I’m sorry, Delilah, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Also, Royal, I have a solution to your problem! CATCH!) I pull out a Training Seed and throw it at him.

Mayor Cygnot smiled and straightened his key medallion, apparently trying hard not to look proud. "Well, I'm glad to be of service to you! I'm not in charge of delegating tasks, but there are many job opportunities that have been opened by this new development! Like building the new houses - you should see them, I think Dr. Serris' assistant helped design them. Like neatly-aligned wooden boxes. Very efficient, very stackable!"

Addressing Marsha's query, Cygnot clasped his wings together and nodded. "And yes, that's Serris we're working with, alright! It was a mighty shame to hear what happened to Hoard. Sordid business. But this way we're both making sure some good comes of it, at least. It's unfortunate that renegade, Ripley, escaped to Foxfell, but we have bigger priorities than her right now. Bringing her to justice for her crimes will have to wait."

"Oh, lord..." [I take a step back, gulping spit as the fox mon swiftly enough arrives and makes himself do a glowy thing with a seed.]

"Y-yea, Mila's right, can you..." [I swallow my words...this is gonna be a cakewalk dealing with this guy, why do I feel so overwhelmed? I think the guy said something about being protected in the front, so, fingers tense and tips welling with water, I slowly strafe around the group towards somewhere more open...let's hope this guy's got blinders...]

(Marsha looks very skeptical at this, knowing full well what they saw of Serris in Hoard (and Ripley, for that matter; she sure seemed like a good egg at the time). This really doesn't add up. However, she doesn't feel like arguing back with them right now. She'll definitely have a word with her parents after this.)

So...new houses, then? (Marsha asks.) Hafta say, "wooden boxes", as ya put it, sure will stand out against everythin' else in town, but I guess it's somethin'...

Royal, thinking fast, caught the Training Seed in his mouth and ran in a wide arc to get behind Maxwell.

Hope this works... he thought to himself, as he got in position behind the Thievul.

He certainly felt something in him strengthen from the seed, but he couldn't be sure.

The Raboot focused the energy in her legs and sprang forward.

"Take this, my first Double Kick!"

Once he was within range, Royal focused his leg muscles and delivered a forward axe-kick followed by a swinging side kick.

Ripley was no criminal. She saved us from becoming just mere pawns in Serris's master plan of bullshit. At least, that's how I call it now. And yet here's the Mayor trying to spin around the idea that she was the criminal? What kind of Kool-Aid is he drinking?

...okay, got to rationalize again. Serris can't hurt us directly if he can't see us. I don't even think he's in town at the moment, right? I commence regaining my composure for the second time in some minutes and again respond to the mayor.

I'll certainly get back to you on that. I'd immediately say yes to this, but on our travels I messed my leg up quite badly and have a much more limited range of motion than I did before the incident which caused me to be in this state happened. Your door will certainly be open for that, and at any time, yes?

The attack hits!    GAH! How did he find my weakness?! Wait... DANG IT! I told them! There I go running my mouth again... NO MATTER!    He pops another seed in his mouth, this time an Invisible Seed, causing him to slowly disappearing from sight.    HA HA HA! How can you hit me in the back if you can’t see me?!   

(Royal, can you hear me? I have an idea! You seem to have great hearing, so can you pinpoint where he is for me by listening to his footsteps? Then I can hit him with a Sticky Web!)

I can sure try, but I think a well-placed Sticky Web should be good enough to snare him even if it's not totally on the mark. Some of us should be able to notice him moving too.

Royal, for the time being, stood still and focused one the ground in front of himself.

   Grr, you PUNK! Know your place!    Maxwell says as he tries to ram Royal with Play Rough.    Eat THIS!    He then chucks a X-Eye Seed at him.

Royal! Catch that seed and throw it back at em'! I don’t think that the barrier prevents thrown objects.

(Guess he brought a friend. Well, "friend" in the loosest possible sense. At first, I hanged back to get a sense of how he fights. Drawing an arrow, I gazed at where he could be. As soon as the fox threw the seed, I launched a Spirit Shackle at his shadow. Hopefully, that'll keep him in place.)
