It's like asking what would be the lesser evil of these heirs, would it not?

(I ask the group. I turn to Sandy after hearing her quiet scream and reassure her:)

It was wierd for all of us, yeah.

As they're escorted to the restaurant Mila doesn't say much, but just before they go inside she reaches over to hug Finley, even as her fur is still sticking in arbitrary directions. She almost feels like she hasn't had a chance yet to process what's happwned, and she hopes doing this will lessen the impact.

"Niles... is gonna be okay, right? Are you okay, too? I was so worried."

Y-y-y-y-you'll get there, yes! Just practice, okay? (Cyrus says. He twitches a bit, knocking his Substitute copy over and causing it to vanish, and turns to James.) So what moves can I h-h-help you with, sir?

(What is with his stutter?)

"Um, maybe something offensive." I say. "I'd like to try and use my fists since I only know a move that uses my feet."

Oh, your f-fists? (Cyrus asks.) Well, I know just what move you neeeed to learn! Give me a sec and I'll be right back!

(Cyrus scampers to another part of the dojo, twitching all the way. A moment later, he comes back with a Shiny Haunter.)

All right, Cyrus, you have me over here. What is it you need me to do? (She asks.)

Demonstrate yourrrr Shadow Punch for this Golett here, Bea! (Cyrus tells the Haunter.) It's a move he neeeeeeds to learn, but I can't teach it to him.

Oh? All right. (Bea the Haunter says. She turns to James.) Watch carefully, sugar.

(Once she knows that James is watching, Bea lifts up one of her floating hands and curls it into a fist. Purple energy begins surrounding it. When the energy surrounding her fist reaches its peak, Bea swings her fist, and a large, gray, and almost ghostly image of a fist shoots from it. The fist sails across the room, and homes in onto and makes impact with a nearby dummy, breaking it to splinters.)

Okay! Nice job, Bea! (Cyrus says to the Haunter. Then he turns to James.) Now you try doing that!

"That was awesome! And it just homed in on the target like heat seeking missle! That's perfect!"

(Now I am getting hyped up, this will also work for long range battles too if I can master it. )

I clench my fist and try to gather energy, seeing a little bit of the energy I try to focus on that. When it looks like it has reaches it's peak I throw a punch as hard as I can! "Eat this!"

The energy is launched, and lands on the floor a few inches from me before disappearing. I look at my fist, groaning in depression.

(I should have expected this to happen, so why does it feel just as embarrassing and bitter?)

*while all that was going on, Sarah gives it a few more tries*

*second try: Sarah closes her eyes...concentrates* (This should come easy, right? I mean all I ever do is run away...) *Sarah's troubled thoughts don't help matters, plus having recently seen that goofy plush has burnt it into her brain. She makes a solid plush, but it's just that — a plush*

*third try: after clawing her plush into a puff of smoke, Sarah goes at it again* (Is this really what I want out of life? To be a living ghost among those whose lives I barely touch?) *once again, the goofy plush*

*fourth try: her thoughts become a bit more resolute, albeit somewhat troubling* (Freedom is all that matters. I can't allow her to take this from me...) *while aided by her resolve, her doubts (and that damn goofy plush image burnt in brain) produces....a plush with a Purrloin head*

*Sarah can't help but snicker at it, then look back over at what James and Cyrus are doing*

(Cyrus twitches and scratches his head.) T-That looked like it was going to go...it looked liiiiike what you did, B-Bea...

Hmm...maybe you didn't built enough energy, sugar? (Bea suggests to James.) Try letting the energy build up just a little bit longer.

(Cyrus steals a glance at the Purrloin-headed Substitute doll.) Oh...I've nevvvver-r-r-r seen anything like that before...that would distract an enemy... (Cyrus remarks to Sarah.)

(Well, might as welk test my limit.)

I imagine most power up sequenses in the anime I have seen and just clench my fist, think of this rockecting into to the face of my enemies and charge up. Ah yes, I can jiust see this fist smashing into that evil jolteon's smug face. It shall be worth the many hjours of training! The energy continues to buildand build probably past the point where it feels like I should stop, heck my hand is literally vibrating so that's a good sign asany to use it.

"Alright try this!" I swing my arm and a purple fist launches out! Then crashes onto the floor like a brick and disappear. "Guess I used too much..."

Hey, that's pretty good! *Sarah says to James, before she tells the sensei* Yeah, it'll distract...but I want to outright deceive them. *Sarah says. Realizing she still needs to work at it, she swats away the abomination and gives it another go*

*fifth try: she concentrates longer than ever this time. She knows she'll have to get it down to clockwork if she'll achieve her true intent, but for now — just getting once is enough. Her "presence" opts to also chime in on this one*    (You won't get another chance — you MUST pull this off...)   

*with a unilateral focus on a clandestine escape, Sarah manages to both simultaneously make a perfect copy of herself, and slip behind one of the dummies in the dummies. Trying to see if it'll also mime her actions, she calls out* Hey teach, how's thi—urgh...

*it does indeed mime her...the creation speaks, then reels, and then collapses...and then vanishes. The real Sarah is sticking out from behind a training dummy, fainted from using Substitute too many times*

Hmm...maybe it would help to count to five before throwing your punch? (Bea suggests to James.)

(Cyrus is distracted by Sarah's(?) call for him and misses James's next attempt to use Shadow Punch. He turns just in time to see who he initially thinks is Sarah fall over and disappear.)

AIEE! (Cyrus cries out, running over to where Sarah's copy was, initially thinking that this was the real Sarah(?). Then he sees the real Sarah(?)'s back-end sticking out from behind the tackling dummy. He runs over to her and gathers her up as best as he can do so for a small ghostly imp only a few inches taller than her.)

E-Excellent! Yes, very excellent! (Cyrus says.) But I failed to waaaaaarn you to keep your en-n-n-nergy up while practicing...

(Cyrus carries Sarah(?) over to the others, then pulls out a Revival Herb and feeds it to her.)

"Oh, my god..." [I cover my face and shake my head.] "That's not my point. I don't care that they'd be shit rulers, I'm trying to keep our priorities straight."

[I tent my square, scaly fingers, staring down at the table. I take a deep breath, then continue.] "They're expecting him to die, and then they're gonna get one of his bastards t'take his place, right? But VA doesn't kill you, so they're probably gonna end up waiting his death out. However, who's to say they realize that? They could be fed some faulty information here...maybe by the vector themselves..."

[...I'm starting to sound like a goddamn conspiracy theorist here. I mean, it would make some sense for whoever infected the king to be close to the king or would have been close to him at one point, but I realize now that, in my indecisive stupor on the boat, that I'm the one with a deficit of information to work off of.] "...though I could be wrong about all this...I dunno, a'think I should see the king 'n Michael about this." [As much as that irritates me.]

"Gotcha." I say to Bea and start charging. "One....Two...Three... Four... Five!" When the energy looks to have built up to a middle area I throw a punch and watch the fist fly out. It actually is going towards the dummy! "Come on, come on, come on!" I chant as I watch it go further and further until it impacts against the dummy's face only making it jerk back a little. "Yes! I hit it!" I shout with my fists pumped into the air.

Ergh...what...happened.... *Sarah's eyes open, but she's exhausted...not to mention hungry. She pulls the second berry dog out of the bag and starts chewing on it...regaining enough strength to sit up indian style*

Phew...I guess it worked, but I also guess I need to be careful how I use it, huh? *Sarah says, before taking another bite. She's forced to admit* I guess I should sit out for a few...I'll cheer James on, okay?

Do ya need any of us ta go with yas if ya do dat, Sparky? (Marsha asks Eliot.)

Yes! Yes, it worked...but I forgot to t-t-tell you to keep your energy up while practicing. You faaaaaainting was my fault. (Cyrus tells Sarah.) And if you need a break, that's p-p-perfectly okay, okay?

(Then James successfully uses Shadow Punch. Cyrus turns to look. His toothy grin returns as he looks at what James has done.) Excellent! Yes, very excellent!

Nice work, sugar! (Bea says to James.) That was a terrific Shadow Punch!

I suppose that could work, but you think they'd remember what Vector he ran into? The three that we've ran into are dead, but...

(A thought again runs over me:)

Where is everyone else? Feels like we've been here for an inordinate amount of time and it's still been just us here. Something better not have gone wrong...

(Richard leads Finley and Mila until they are in fact, just outside the restaurant. He peeks inside and motions to the two:)

They're still serving lunch...and I see a good amount of your friends there too.

"Thanks, but it still needs practice." I say. "Does this mean the lesson is over though."

*finishing up her berry dog, Sarah leaps to to her "feet" to say* If it is, maybe I could get another go? I mean, I don't have that many skills at the moment...

*she concentrates once more to make the substitute, feeling much more at ease with the move...she pulls it off, heading not far before experimenting with vocal projection. The two Purrloins wave at the teacher before Sarah goes* Left right left rig...it's not working, is it...seems I need more practice with this first...

*focusing on projection once more, both Sarah's eyes are closed, paws-to-head, while the fake one says* Testing...123...

"Yeah, yeah... I'm alright. I'm just happy he's safe." She looks to Mila, even smiling. "I got to save him, Mila. He's gonna be okay!"

She looks to the restaurant. "Thank you, Richard," and steps in.

Well, here comes Foxy and Squeaky... (Marsha remarks as Finley and Mila come in.)

(Cyrus claps his hands at Sarah's display.) You are blowing m-me away, yes! You're a nnnnnatural, yes!

(Cyrus quickly turns to address James.) The lesson may be ovvvver, but you are welcome to c-c-continue practicing, yes! Keep Shadow Punching!

(Bea seems surprised at Sarah projecting her voice into her Substitute copy.) I didn't think of doing that with Substitute before... (She remarks.)

Noriaki puts on a weak smile and waves to Finley and Mila, greeting them, "Ah, hello Madam Finley, Miss Mila."

"You got it." And so began the many times I repeatedly spammed this attack like it was street fighter. I was able to hit the target each time and feeling pretty good until everything went dark and I fell over. I should rellay learn my own limits.

James Fainted!
