Fire Emblem Heroes

I'm now 53 pulls without a 5 star into the Rulers of the Laguz, sniping for Nailah. Total of 84 pulls so far.

I'm glad the new banner is a flop, this way I don't feel bad about missing out on it because of Rulers.

With that said, how do you mess up an Onsen banner? I think I've never seen a reaction as tepid as this one to a banner.

First circle gave me Hinoka and Ryoma.

You make a bunch more Alts for characters that everyone is already sick of, and combine it with shameless fan-service clearly showing you have know idea what your doing.

And it's not even the fan-service, or the fact the characters are from Fates, thats the problem. It's so much more about Alts for characters who are overexposed as is.

If the banner the same boathouse them, but instead it featured Effie, Oboro, Arthur, Subaki, and Orochi for example. I don't think people would complain nearly so much. They might even actually like it.

Thank you. I'm going to try vote for one new character every day until the poll is over. My first vote was for Malice, I'm gonna vote for Asbel later.

My big obscure pick right now is Daichi. Actually, what I'm really hoping for is that Heroes will include characters from other subsidiary Fire Emblem works like Cipher or Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Or basically, I want Fire Emblem Heroes to become Fire Emblem Cipher: The Video Game. =P

Bingo. There are already a ridiculous amount of Fates alts...but the vast majority of them are for either the Nohr or Hoshidan royals. I would love more alts of the expanded cast. Oboro alts, Hinata alts, Subaki alts... Something to let the less-prolific characters shine, and maybe find more of a use in the meta. Something besides the royals. Anything besides the royals.

And anything anything besides more Camilla. It's obvious why she was chosen for this banner in particular, but...they could at least pretend to have some shame. It's a bit of whiplash, since Rulers of the Laguz not only introduced new characters, but a new unit type and new mechanics, whereas this feels like a safe rehash of things they've relied on too much before.

Apparently, according to this post, Surtr has been removed from the random unit generation pool like the Brave Heroes.

Hurray. Now he won't show up to ruin my TT auto-battles.

T20 AR defense teams are pretty gross this season. Can't wait until the super whales are fielding 4-5 +10 instant-special units on their teams. Also seeing a lot of level 3 Def Forts, which makes it super obvious that, despite the outcry about the New Years orb packages, that shit got eaten up fast (or, at least the Aether Stone package did, anyway).

I know FEH has caused plenty of Follow the Leader like any other big name mobile app but I didn't actually expect them to revive another quarter-century old SRPG specifically to compete, man I guess old rivalries never die huh?

Meh, Surtr wasn't really hard to beat, so I'm going to be disappointed to not be able to beat on a random note now.

He's not hard for a player to beat, but triggers all the stupid in the AI. Gets really annoying to have to intervene on Hard auto-battle runs because the AI was stupid enough to somehow get three units with bonus boosts killed on him.

After dropping like 200 orbs I managed to get one copy of Hot Springs Elise! +Atk -Res too, so not too bad!

besides the 200 orbs anyway. i'm mad i was pitybroken by Flora.

I'm just under 300 orbs now, so let's hope I can stock up enough for whenever Selkie drops that I can get a reasonable amount of merges on her.

Brazen Atk/Def and, to a lesser extent, Even Def Wave are cool seals. Xander being a TT Bonus unit is nice since everyone has him.

Gonna keep stockpiling orbs. I have 106 right now and I don't care too much about this banner even as a Fates fan.

Besides what chaosconsortium said (though I disagree about Elise, Sakura and Hinoka being overexposed), there is another issue. This is the second time in a row that a seasonal banner is a monogame one, which might be a factor here (Christmas was Sacred Stones/Binding Blade, Halloween has Sacred Stones/Fates/Blazing Blade/Radiance duology and Festival in Hoshido was Fates/Radiance duology.) that the banner was Fates (and Fates royals at that which are collectively overexposed, its just through Corrin, Azura, Camilia and arguably Takumi, Xander and Ryoma alts) that salted the wound for some.

One other factor was a matter of timing, Last year we had a Sacred Stones banner that introduced new units to the pool (one of which was an Eirika alt, which tanked her chances for a CYL slot...prolly for the best since given B!Ephraim, that alt was B!Eirika in all but name anyway). The timeframe when that banner debuted matches with the Onsen banner, which also brought its own issues with Alfonse's obstinate 9 day time limit and the lack of demotes in recent months (Silas was the last, though Reyson might break that streak).

BTW I pulled ont eh Onsen banner and I got O!Sakura and O!Elise (as well as Myrrh and B!Veronica as pitybreakers). Which means I can add Elise to the list of characters I've summoned that weren't their originally versions (and which also includes Azura, Ike, Mia, Laejharn, Dorcas, Lucina and Hector, and arguably Tiki as well)

I do think IS has a habit of overfocusing on the Fate royals at the expense of all the other Fates characters. Frankly this started as early as the actual Fates games themselves, and has never stopped.

The way it feels to me is that IS has a really hard time wrapping their heads around the idea of the Ensemble Dark Horse. They have an idea of which characters they think should be popular, ie: the ones they spent the most time on as the dev team, and when that doesn't line up with reality they double down on trying to cram those characters down our throats until we like them. "These guys need to be popular! We designed them to popular!"

Not that the Fates royals are unpopular, in the grand scheme of things, but they seem to be pointedly ignoring the other popular Fates characters, like Charlotte who doesn't even have a non-seasonal version yet.

Has Fates even had new characters who weren't children yet? Even Awakening got that.

Poor forgotten Kaze and Silas.

They're pretty good at sussing out the popular characters from other games (Nino, Ishtar, Cordelia, Tharja among others), but with Fates they seem to feel obliged to put in all the main characters, and when there are 10 of them (11 with both Corrins) + newest game favoritism (RIP Valentia) we get the current situation.

Incidentally, and this is more tangential to the discussion, it's been noted that IS seems to be afraid of focusing on the more historically unpopular games, even if some of those characters are actually very popular. Like, Ike is clearly their most popular character by a country mile, but they've been extremely reluctant to give him alts for some reason. Why? Because the Tellius series didn't sell very well, and more or less began the decline of the franchise. Which was ultimately saved by Awakening.

It's almost like they feel Ike is cursed and want to avoid him as much as possible. While instead focusing solely on the games that they feel saved the franchise, even when the fans are specifically complaining about that. Roy is in a similar position.

Mikoto, Garon, Silas, Charlotte (Albeit only part of that one bridal banner and nothing else), Flora, and Kaze. The rest of the Fates units were in the game on release.

I totally agree that IS is focusing way too much on the royals at the expense of other popular characters (like Oboro for example) but I can't blame them given how Camilla is literally one of the most popular characters in the entire series.

See, that's the thing. We know for a fact there are characters as equally as or more popular than Camilla, but they don't get the same push (Lucina of all characters now has less alts than Camilla, and to say nothing of Ike).

So, you have to admit there's some dev bias in there somewhere.

Meanwhile, no Fates characters have won CYL, and I'm not confident Camilla or Azura is going to change that this time.

Camilla was at 4th and then 3rd, and in the second COYL she lost to Celica (Who hadn't had Echoes come out yet) and Veronica (who had just gotten story focus and everyone adored her).

The fact that Camilla didn't win is due entirely to the timing of two big things having dropped recently. She only lost two Veronica by 1100 votes, and that's after Veronica had a huge push after seeing the half-way results. No other character has that now, besides maybe Loki.

Casuals (and Camilla fans) don't care that she has six alts. They're out for blood. They simply have no investment in how many alts she has versus the classic characters.

As for the guys, Marth is absolutely winning this time since they're merging the games this time around. Alm totally might, too. I hope Alm wins.

This will be the test to see if alt fatigue is an actual thing. I'm not actually convinced Eirika's alt last year actually hurt her, and as far as alts are concerned Camilla has everything going against her, yet she's still one of the favorites to win.

Can't wait to see the midterm results.

I really hope alt fatigue is a thing. If it's not, and I have to sit through another year of this, I just may move on and wait until Three Houses. Why bother sitting around saving Orbs for things that may or may not come?

Wasn't Eirika's alt super fresh when the vote started last year? That probably did hurt her a lot.
