How come no one's mentioned the latest video?
Hbomb talks about how a shoddy film that vaguely related to Lovecraft's writings resonated with him and then shifts to talking about the sticking point of Lovecraft's work, which is racism. Also mentioned is vampires being a metaphor for social antagonisms. I probably described this shittily.
I liked how he used Ctrl-Alt-Del as a jumping off point to talk about misconception and...what would you call “pinning the ills of an entire community/society on one person”? Messianic scapegoating?
Still, I don’t think it’ll work for trying to use an adaptation of a Lovecraft work as a jumping off point for talking about Anglo-American imperialism. I’m pretty sure it’s easier to just jump straight into that than try and disguise it as some stupid “WAAAAAAAH THEY’RE TOUCHING MY CHILDHOOD PLAYTHINGS” internet reviewer-type content. He did a similar thing in his Killing Joke video, where he used a recent adaptation to complain about the Dark Age of Comics, using Alan Moore’s disillusionment in his work as an argument against people being inspired by his comics without acknowledging that’s how artists’s minds work.

The director of the movie he's talking about actually commented on the video.
As did Geoff "Digi satellite" Thew.
Yeah, Hbomb tweeted that.
Speaking of tweets, anybody been reading his recent takes?
I mean, with all respect to the guy, and his videos are really well done, but... well, let's just hope he stays as far away from Star Wars as he possibly can, if you know what I'm sayin'.
ahahahahahahahaha
I think he's said he's planning on making some videos defending the prequel trilogy.
Also, no, I don't know what you're saying. You're just saying he shouldn't express his opinions on the franchise because... oh no he might get some of what he's already getting, or you yourself think he's going to be... wrong? Like, that's a really dumb thing to say about this.
Have you read his takes? He called Luke, the guy who blew up the Death Star, a liberal pacifist and Darth Vader, the fascist murderer of thousands, a "true revolutionary".
There's bad takes, and then there's "did you even watch the movie?" level bad takes. I was implying that he might want to steer clear of making videos about Star Wars because, if his tweets are anything to go by, he'd only end up making a fool of himself.
I'd almost think he was just trolling, but as Pachylad seems to be implying, he apparently has a history of doing this.
How does one come to those conclusions?
I keep following him, then unfollowing him like two days later because of a Really Bad Take(tm) like the above (no, Darth Vader was not a radical rebel because he threw Palpatine into a pit. He kind of blew up planets in service to the fascist Empire, just because he did something to protect his son in the last ten minutes of his life doesn't make him heroic). But at least these are controversial takes that aren't about the sequel trilogy (even if his takes on the prequels are...honestly somewhat baffling, although considering his thoughts on Death of the Author, make a little more sense).
they're gonna find intelligent life up there on the moon/and the canterbury tales will shoot up to the top of the best-seller listSo I guess we can expect another In Defense of Dark Souls II then?
For those wondering, he received some flack on that video due to strawmanning Mathew Mattosis' critique of the game.
Oh God. I mean, I like Dark Souls 2. In spite of its flaws and my many problems with it, it's still an excellent game, but his defense was so bad.
Yeah, I love Hbomb when he's making fun of alt-right idiots. When he talks about other stuff, it's kind of hit and miss. He makes some good points in the Dark Souls 2 video (Matthewmatosis' critique is frankly terrible), but I find his condescension pretty irritating. It works when he's crapping over bigots, but when he's just disagreeing with someone over video games it's pretty obnoxious.
I disagree with good old mr H on many things but I still respect him as a creator and a person
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.H Bombs vidoes on LISA and Darkest Dungeon I feel are really good, but I can't say I care much about his opinions on Dark Souls or Fallout 3
I'm having to learn to pay the priceI don't really consider Matthew Matosis's critique of DS 2 terrible, I think many of his points still hold up and to this day I consider it the worst Souls game.
At least his posts on Star Wars aren't another contribution to the monument of stupidity that is "the Empire wasn't that evil and the rebels were just as bad when they blew up the Death Star". Compared to this popular nonsense, pointing out that it's not pacifism but Vader's murder of the Emperor that ended the Empire isn't that wrong.
Funny Dark Souls 2 was actually the first From Software game I bought (the 8th gen remaster to be more specific) and I actually like it. Sure it's not as good as 3 or bloodborne (haven't played demon souls or dark souls one) but it's still enjoyable
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.I don't think it's a horrible game either, I just find it more annoying than fun to play a lot of the time. I don't begrudge people liking it, I just personally thought it was disappointing.
Any of you said your criticisms to Hbomber himself? I don't know how many of you are aware he's got a CuriousCat, but he's got one. Couldn't hurt to give your criticisms there.
I recall him saying he's already getting too many questions as it is and that manning the account to answer all the questions might as well be a full-time job.
(in David hayter impression) Curious cat?
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.I am unaware of Curious Cat. What is it?
Edited: Nevermind. I got what you were trying to say.
