Every Capcom fan, even a newbie like myself knows Rival Schools. Batsu and Akira are like the two most requested characters for the rosters from there. I think Kurow would make a great boss.
I'd buy the next Vs. game yesterday if they announced Akira
This is we need Capcom vs. Itself.
Asura vs Galactus would be amazing...and something I don’t trust modern Marvel comic writers to not screw up admittedly.
What about Star Gladiator? You can make them MORE blatant knockoffs of their Star Wars counterparts now!
It depends on how we're defining D-list in this context. I don't doubt there are a fair amount of Capcom fans who know of Rival Schools (if for no other reason than we got Batsu and Kyosuke in crossovers), but that is still a franchise I'd call C or D list in the grand scheme of things. It was never all that popular even in its heyday, and there hasn't been a new entry in close to 20 years now.
And yes, Akira would be awesome in a future Vs. game.
Johnathan Hickman wouldn't do that justice? Admittedly, I'm also under the impression that no one on Marvel would even care to do a story for MVC at all.
I still can't get over that they learn absolutely nothing from their time from MVC 3 to Infinite. Somehow they even made it worse.
Who wrote Infinite's story anyways?
According to wikipedia, Paul Gardner.
I thought it was Frank Tieri again.
Damn, at this point they should get two writers and a team of researchers. Get whoever worked/wrote the Devil May Cry games, a consistent Marvel writer, and use the team of researchers.
How is writing a crossover story like?
I kinda wonder where/who we should learn from. PXZ? BB Tag?
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaOne thing they could try is having a collection of smaller story modes, as getting to focus on fewer characters at a time could make their task easier.
There could be a story mode that focuses on each duo/a theme pairing to make it more engaging instead of one long linear story.
I thought of that. Themes like:
- X, Zero and the Avengers vs. Sigma and Ultron
- Asura and Amaterasu vs. Dormammu and Shuma-Gorath
...And that's all I can think up.
They could do what Soul Calibur VI did, have one main story that focuses on whoever they want the main cast to be as they defeat the main villain, then several side stories explaining what the other characters were doing at the time.

Hickman isn't the one you get for that kind of insanity.
Al Ewing on the other hand could make it crazy awesome.
Like King of Fighters?

Didn't Street Fighter x Tekken have something like that, too? That could be an interesting way to handle it, particularly if they do cutscenes in a cheap/easy way that doesn't take long to absorb, so that they can fit a lot of story content into a brisk experience.
I'm picturing comic panels or something similar - easier to make than rendered cutscenes, and you can scan through them between the fights. Depending on the demands of the game, it could even be a loading screen thing.
I do like that idea.
X, Zero and the Avengers vs. Sigma and Ultron Asura and Amaterasu vs. Dormammu and Shuma-Gorath ...And that's all I can think up. tongue
Along with Street Fighter, Captain Commando, & Avengers taking on Shadowloo & Hydra
Guardians of the Galaxay & Hayato's merry band, Jin Saotome VS Annihilus, Bilstein, G.O.D, & whatever Marvel cosmic being BS
X-Men & Street Fighter VS the Hellfire Club & Illuminati
Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, DMC, Tessa, & Donovan VS Jedah, Dormmamu, Yami, & whatever Marvel cosmic being BS
Etc.
Al Ewing on the other hand could make it crazy awesome.
I'll take your word for it, but I don't exactly think the premise of Asura VS Galactus needs an award-winning writer.
Can't think off the top of my head for interactions but:
- Either Mega Man X, Exe, or Starforce teaming up with Captain Commando to stop Kang the Conqueror or Ultron Sigma in the future?
- Sinister Six and Shadoloo becoming Sinister Shadoloo with Doctor Octopus, Venom, M. Bison, Necalli, and two members you can fight as bosses.
I'll think of more when i'm not stresed.
It needs someone who cares about Asura. That is much more difficult to find in the Marvel writers room.
In hindsight the Capcom character interactions in Marvel 3 were clearly written by an outsider. Compared to the Marvel cast they were a lot more shallow.
I could also see Captain Commando being teamed up with Captain Marvel, just for the "Cap Com and Marvel" gag.
If you were in charge of Mv CI's roster, who would you replace, add, or remove?
I wanna see Ibuki and Ms. Marvel as a duo.
With certain Capcom characters (especially from older games), it's probably harder to get a clear grasp on their personality than it is for the Marvel characters, who have the benefit of years worth of comics (and now movies and TV shows) showing how they speak and act.

This is true, but if you know the basic lore, it’s easy to manipulate them for the story, knowing what they’re about and playing with that accordingly. Infinite made everyone so generic because that was too hard.
As for characters, I’ll suggest it again, give the game Hayato and Dr. Blisten from Star Gladiator and make them even more blatant Expy versions of Jedi and Sith.
Rival Schools says hi.
