Bringing back some of the missing Street Fighter characters like Sakura, Dan and Charlie (or even adding in new ones like Rashid) would be easier since they already have assets to use. The Marvel side (and even just the other Capcom series) would be a lot more difficult and time consuming since there are a LOT of characters from the 2D era of the series that would need to be completely redone.

Jill and Hayato were brand new sprites, too.

I think people would be fine with seven new characters if the roster was huge otherwise, now that I've thought about it a bit more. You'd really need to make sure they game had stuff to do for casual and single player play, though.

Recycling sprites was normal back then. People get in a tizzy if assets are reused or animations are recycled nowadays.

It might come across a little differently in a game like this because I'll bet the presentation of the models would be quite different.

[up][up][up]One complaint that I saw with Infinite's roster was that they didn't choose the characters people wanted to return. Instead of Vergil or Phoenix Wright, we got Spencer and Firebrand who a lot of people didn't care for.

People still play Ultimate Marvel, right? Just take the new characters from Infinite and jam them into Ultimatest Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

If they use Nathan Rad Spencer maybe that would've been a different story. Poor Firebrand, apparently no one likes Demon's Crest.

Something people seriously need to get over with.

Again, Infinite's reception was a collision of a bunch of problems at once. I don't think people would've minded the recycled animations nearly as much had it not been for a bunch of other problems. You put a bunch of the UMVC characters in a new game with a visual style that doesn't look like ass and actually has a decent starting roster, I doubt people would mind them reusing moves and animations from past games nearly as much.

The problem isn't so much that they recycled things, the problem is that some recycled characters got new stuff and the others got... Nothing? Hulk not having a "puny god" super in a game that's supposed to be taking cues from the MCU is the most glaring problem, but sometimes even the new stuff sucked. I know that Spencer's new level 3 is based off his reboot's final boss, but can't you make it have some kind of impact? I doubt headbutting the Hulk will stun him that easily.

As for F4, I'd go for Invisible Woman using her powers to allow the other members to make ambushes.

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.

Unless you can name more than Hulk LVL 3 being "Puny God" than having the Marvel characters moveset being base more on MCU counterpart would just add fuel to the fire. Even if changing Hulk's LVL 3 to a Metronomic Man Mashing would be eons better than what he already has.

I would say the biggest issue was that there were basically no newcomers, a bunch of regulars and other interesting characters were dropped.

Like before the DLC (Which was another issue) there was a grand total of 4 new characters.

And only 4 females, 6 after DLC.

It's pretty damning when nowadays fighter rosters are pretty even in terms of gender representation.

MK X only had 7.5 out of 33

I2 has 9 out of 38 (technically 41)

Tekken 7 has 14 out of 45 (I don't remember)

DBZ Fighterz has 3 out of 38

It's not so much about being even as so much it's about having enough of female characters.

Which both Marvel & Capcom have.

I do hope Infinite isn't it for MvC. Mechanically, it was a great game. It just lacked draw (sub-par graphics, few newcomers, missing veterans). While the story was half baked, it did pull some casual attention.

Smash Ultimate has 13 out of 77 (21 if we include characters who can be either male or female).

Max and his buddies discussed the situation and prospects for Marvel 4 at length. The biggest point they make is that since SF IV, Capcom's generally tried to have a major fighting game come out every few years, and this is the first time in a while there's been nothing confirmed on the horizon. He said he expects something (though not necessarily Marvel) to be announced in a few months.

Also fun little tidbit: one of them points out that Disney owning Fox means this could clear up any potential licensing issues surrounding Linn Kurosawa.

Their fighting games have had diminishing returns for years. It's definitely not outside the realm of possibility for another Capcom fighter to come soon, but apparently Nether Realm Studios might be in talks to produce a Marvel vs DC title, and if that's true (Ed Boon was dodgy about confirming or denying it), I don't think it will be Marvel vs. oriented.

Well, I guess I could say I'm worried about the Capcom Vs line of games in general. My ideal game would be a proper Capcom Vs SNK 3.

Hashil Since: Aug, 2010
#6896: Apr 8th 2019 at 11:24:34 PM

That's probably the most likely versus game to come at this point. SNK is on its way back up with Samurai Shodown, which already somewhat resmebles a 3-D Street Fighter, and KOF XV is supposedly coming sometime after and will likely see a facelift similar to it, so they've got a nice library of characters to pull from that younger fighting game fans have had the opportunity to put hands on recently, so it wouldn't necessarily be a weird case like Tatsuno vs Capcom where a huge chunk of the audience is completely unfamiliar with half the roster.

It wouldn't do much but I would buy it out of obligation.

If Nether Realms really is going to develop DC VS Marvel then thing I have faith in is that they'll do a better job with Thor. Everyone else I would be worried about.

I don't want the first big Marvel vs DC game to be done by Neitherrealm. Dark and edgy works in Injustice because the whole concept of the game is "what if DC was dark and edgy". The concept of Marvel vs DC is "what if the Marvel and DC universes collided". Marvel vs DC should not be dark and edgy.

Also, I think Marvel vs DC is too big of an idea to cover in just one game. I think they should start just with Avengers vs Justice League, and have the entire roster be just made of superheroes who were members of either team.

After that, they should make Marvel vs DC Superheroes, which includes all the characters from the previous game and adds a whole new roster of superheroes who aren't members of the Avengers or Justice League (the Teen Titans, X-Men, F4, etc).

Finally, they should make a third game just called Marvel vs DC, with all of the returning characters from both previous games, but also including a whole new roster of Marvel and DC villains.

I think Netherrealm can handle a lighthearted game if they want to.

MK sometimes is way more gory than edgy

When have they done a lighthearted game?

Anyway, as much as i love Injustice, i would prefer a Marvel vs DC game be between the original characters.

Actual boy scout Superman and not Regime Superman.
