Youkai Forest (Interest/Signup)

• Name: Onryo
• Gender: Male
• Age: Difficult to say but at least in his 50s
• Race: Human
• Appearance: A man with dark, tanned skin and hair going grey leaving him with mixed hair color. He tends to wear simple farmer's garb with a wide hat to cover his blood red eyes. Despite his age he still surprisingly well built and it's clear the muscles are from more than just manual labor.
• Skills & Equipment:
  • Hand to hand combat: Onryo is trained in an ancient assassination style that is said to eventually destroy the body of those who wield it. He is still proficient in this style though out of practice due to years of his only opponents being training boards.
  • Ki Manipulation: Exactly what it sounds like, usually used for strengthening the body, increasing speed, attacks and occasionally destructive blasts.
  • Evil Impulse: More of a mindset for fighting than an actual skill, Onryo will use any methods within a fight that does not involve drawing more people in to see his opponent dead and defeated, this has also made his ki energy more wild, like flames rather than the pure energy of others.
  • Farming: He's been a farmer more than anything else for years now.
• Personality: Onryo seems tired, someone who has been alive longer than they expected and seemingly lacking much drive. At best he might seem stern and very focused on being paid the proper amount for the food her harvests. In another time when he was a feared warrior who killed other to prove his strength he was vicious, brutal and yet unwilling to attack those who couldn't defend themselves. The fight and death needed to happen but there was no ill-will in it, simply a matter of the strongest surviving.
• Bio: A number of years ago Onryo was feared. He fought and killed men, women and youkai alike, just to prove he was the strongest. Then on one fateful day he fought a man he had allowed to grow and flourish and won. Unfortunately as Onryo later found out, that man was actually his son. Humbled and for the first time in his memory, remorseful about where his drive and bloodlust had brought him to, Onryo retreated to one of the few places where his past misdeeds could be forgotten. There he took up the trade of the farmer and resolved to make a more honest living. Over time the world has largely forgotten about Onryo, Spirit of Rage, the old warrior becoming a fable to frighten children. And that is the way he prefers it.

• Name: Heide
• Gender: Female
• Age: 30
• Race: Human
• Appearance: A ragged looking woman, she wears a fur coat over a sarashi. She has a robe that she has tied around her waist.Heide generally walks barefoot, with cloth wraps around her feet and her hands. However, her most striking feature is her long flowing red hair that goes almost to her waist.0
• Skills & Equipment:
  • Katana and Wakizashi: Heide wields a katana that has a makeshift guard from nails rammed through the hilt.
  • Brutal Strength and Durability-Heide is brutally efficient in combat, capable of surviving wounds that would kill an armored man from sheer force of will.
• Personality: Heide is relaxed, friendly, affable and a complete monster. Heide isn't insane or particularly marked as anything other than human. Instead, she's simply a woman who despises law and order. By her own admission, she's aimless. She finds someone, usually a ronin and toys with them, kills them and goes off somewhere else. However, in odd moments, Heide will break down in a moment of rare humanity...But these always fade and the red haired butcher always returns.
• Bio: Truth be told, no one really knows where Heide comes from. She is heard fitfully muttering in her sleep for a man named Teso, though whether this name means anything is unknwon. For now, she wanders around taking odd jobs. Granted, despite her prowess she's often completely untrustworthy due to her blood lust, which blacks her from being anything other than a mercenary for hire.

You mean wakizashi? The mora (what most people call syllables) "zi" doesn't exist in the Japanese language. They use "ji" instead.

@Heroic Sociopath: That sounds fucking awesome (even though the actual Eight-Forked Serpent was decapitated by the storm god Susano'o). Out of curiosity, do you intend for the Orochi your char's ancestor imprisoned to be the selfsame Orochi mentioned in the Nihon Shoki and the Kojiki? If so, it could still work (if it was somehow resurrected).

• Name: Roju
• Age: 25
• Gender: Male
• Race: Hanyo (Oni mother, human father)
• Appearance: 7'6", red skin with darker red highlight, a single curling horn in the middle of his forehead. Wears a tiger skin tunic
• Skills: Very skilled with his club, has mastered some of the traditional Oni powers:
  • Invisiblity: completely invisible when still, a ripple effect ala Predators when moving
  • Fire: Can project fireballs from his hands or a flamethrower-like stream from his mouth
  • Traps and Snares: Has learned to build them as a hunting tool but has been known to use them to catch and rob sentients.
• Equipment: Long (about five and a half feet) club studded with iron spikes, a sack holding food, ropes, a few coins and a scroll drawing of his mother, his tunic which he had blessed so that it becomes hard as iron when struck.
• Bio: Abandoned by his human father and raised by his oni mother on tales of his abuse Roju does not like humans and grew up to become a bandit. Rising bigotry against youkai has brought him to the town out of self preservation rather than a desire to live in harmony but he generally keeps his opinions to himself from necessity. He learned his oni magic from his grandfather.
• Personality: Generally sullen and standoffish, especially towards humans. Gives the impression of being Dumb Muscle but is smarter than he looks or acts

• Name: Eiko
• Gender: Female
• Age: Uncertain, but she typically shapeshifts into a teenage girl
• Race: Bakeneko
• Appearance: She's a siamese cat with chocolate colored fur, her appearance when transformed tends to vary a lot depending on how she wants to look like, going from cat girl to fully human if she so pleases. She has a magical staff that can be reduced to a small size enough that she can have it hanging from a necklace or a collar without it looking out of place.
• Skills and Equipment:
  • Being a cat, she can see in the dark, is very agile, has a more sensitive sense of hearing and smell and can also fall from great heights without harming herself.
  • She can shapeshift into a human and even other youkai, however she's mostly limited to more humanoid creatures.
  • She's skilled at fighting using a staff and has practiced martial arts at length
  • She's a very good maid and is capable of realizing multiple tasks with speed and efficacy.
• Personality: Eiko is a very peppy girl, she's the life of any party, being highly sociable and playful. She's very affectionate as well, though only towards people she's knows very well. She's a bit on the loud side, especially when she wants to get someone's attention, but she is very well aware of when she should be quiet and when it's ok for her to be loud. Eiko is loyal and kind, being completely devoted to her master and always trying her best to leave him as happy as she can manage. However, Eiko also has some issues regarding self-worth, often beating herself up over the slightest mistakes and she never seems to let go of any bad experiences she goes through, as such, when she really messes up and ends up hurting someone she cares for, she doesn't take it well and her behavior gets considerably more melancholic. She's well-intentioned in her actions for the most part, but she has trouble thinking of any long-term consequences, being a person that focuses more on the present than in the future, and that often results in her ideas backfiring on her. She tends to be suspicious of most humans she crosses path with, but she always remains civil unless they give her a reason to attack.
• Bio: Eiko once lived in a village of bakeneko that was hidden away from the humans, but one day it was discovered and destroyed by humans, Eiko was one of the only survivors and lost her entire family in the blink of an eye. She was still very young at the time and was completely lost from that point on, she ended up wandering around, looking very miserable as she barely managed to keep herself alive until she was found by an Oni who lived in Onimori but had left the village to do some business of his own. Seeing her state, he took her in and brought her back to Onimori with him, although she was suspicious at first as he had been disguising himself as a human, once she found out he was an Oni and that he genuinely wanted to help her, Eiko became indebted to him. She currently lives as his maid (although this was mainly her choice as she figured it would be one way of repaying him for his kindness) using her shapeshifting abilities to carry out any errands that require someone to leave Onimori.

For the record, the plural of bakeneko is bakeneko (so you meant "a village of bakeneko"). Japanese doesn't distinguish between plural and singular often (and when it does, it either just adds the suffix "-tachi" or uses the word twice). Which does mean that the plural of "ninja" should be "ninja" instead of "ninjas" .

I am absolutely going to pluralize japanese words now for Toko's oni speech instead of basic You No Take Candle talking.

So I think I made the Gashadokuro work. He's much smaller than expected, but theoretically could grow taller over the course of the RP, in case a kaiju-sized skeleton is needed.

• Name: Kokatoru
• Gender: Male
• Age: 40
• Race: Gashadokuro
• Appearance: A big ol' skeleton with glowing red eyesockets. His bones are a dull yellowish-gold color.
• Skills & Equipment:
  • Size-Changing: Kokatoru usually stands at around 9 feet, small by Gashadokuro standards. He can however grow taller at a whim, up to double his usual size, which is actually the minimum size he's capable of, and shrink back down as well. Conceivably he could grow even taller with a lot of practice, but he sees no need to do so.
  • Invisibility: As all of his kind, he can turn invisible. While invisible, he emits a ringing sound like chimes. Since his bones also rattle as he moves, it's much less stealthy than it seems. It can be used to hide things, however, since anything inside his ribcage will turn invisible with him.
  • Boneman: While not truly indestructible as legend might suggest, being an animate skeleton means he's quite hard to kill and doesn't need food, water, air, or sleep. His bones are like thick trees, and if broken will heal over a few days, even regrowing themselves if needed. Destroying his skull or his entire torso will kill him, though.
• Personality: A calm, simple being who is just happy to coexist with others. He never gets angry or upset, and always attempts to keep others calm as well, likely because he knows how frightening he looks. He strives to help others, however he can.
• Bio: Demons born of from the spirits of those who suffered... such is the origin of Gashadokuro. But one was different. He simply awoke one day, finding himself in an abandoned village, crawling from a mass grave of peasants. Not knowing what he really was, he simply left, walking the earth to try and understand himself. Humans fled from him on sight, or worse, attacked him, but he never struck back, merely vanished and ran. One day, he met a lost child, who was not afraid of him. Said child told him the legend of Gashadokuro, the Yokai that drink human blood. He was appalled. Kokatoru swore he would not become a monster, that he would prove himself better. But humans would not listen to him, would not believe him. Until he found Onimori. The people here were willing to give any Yokai, even him, a chance. Kokatoru took up residence in the cemetery, and there he has remained, keeping watch over those buried there and helping the townsfolk when he can (usually by lifting heavy things or digging graves).

Welp I hate posting a WIP sheet, but I need to go some where and would like to continue working on it from my phone....

• Name: Nagishiro Suzu (凪白 錫)
• Gender: Female
• Age: Uncertian
• Race: Kitsune
• Appearance: Suzu is a single tailed fox, with pure white fur, though this is a form she rarely resumes any more. Her most common appearance is that of a short young woman with long white hair, a trait carried over from her fur and one she does not seem capable of shifting.
• Skills:
  • Suzu's fox fire takes the form form of lightning rather then the more common fire, but its overall strength is pretty low, it is more capable of giving some one a nasty shock if they touch her ten any kind of long distance bolt more then a tiny zap.
  • She is more adapt with is illusions which she uses to disguise herself on the battlefield or hide in plain sight.
  • Finally she is quite adapt with mixing gunpowder and its various applications which she has taken a fondness too as the "thunder to her lightning"
• Equipment:
  • Enrai: Suzu's primary weapon is a rather.... interesting tanegashima, especially for any one who has ever seen one, while the barrel the stock and the sights remain, all forms of trigger assembly and matchlock mechanism have been removed, instead the device is ignited by a small shock inside the weapons breech.
  • Lots of gunpowder: This is more a general thing then any specific weapon, since its purposes are varied, fire starting, bombs, self shooting arrows. There is a wide application for this to a quick thinker.
• Personality: Suzu is of the curious sort, and rather quick to adapt to new things and ideas, something that often puts her at odds with traditionalism that is often favored.

• Name: Hans Enig
• Gender: Male
• Age: 67
• Race: Human
• Appearance: Something like this◊
• Skills & Equipment:
  • Magic: Hans' magic is a bit different than what the locals of Onimori are used to. Mostly focused on the use of magical reagents and words of power, Hans can cast a few modest spells. Hans' first spell is known as Lamplight which creates a small orb of light, roughly the size of a baseball that hovers above his head for up to an hour and is as about as bright as a lamp, hence the name. Next in the old man's spellbook is Animate Object which allows Hans to control up to three inanimate objects weighing less than ten pounds (combined) as if he were holding them. For necessity's sake as a foreigner travelling in Wa, Hans devised a universal translation enchantment that allows for him to understand most any language spoken around him. And finally Hans has a few classic Magic tricks in his spellbook, such as pulling rabbits out of hats and the like with little practical purpose outside of his own personal amusement.
  • Hans carries two sizeable tomes with him. One is his spellbook, containing all of the spells mentioned above (with plenty of room for more to be added during his travels), the other is his personal journal, containing all of his notes and research done on the society and culture of Wa and Onimori.
• Personality: It's rare to see Hans without a smile on his face, though he may be elderly, the old man retains much of his youthful vigor due to just how interested he is in learning about new countries and their cultures. Ever friendly, Hans rarely raises his voice without reason and will always take the most diplomatic or peaceful approach when it comes to settling arguments or conflicts and is something of a pacifist by nature, though he will take up arms if it means protecting those unable to do so for themselves.
• Bio: Hailing from a western country partially submerged under the ocean, Hans has been a Scholar all of his life, studying ancient ruins and long-forgotten civilizations and generally doing his best to record as much ongoing history as possible. When word spread that some of his fellow countrymen had begun trading with a far eastern kingdom which had yet to be studied in detail by any western historian or scholar, Hans lept at the opportunity to explore the kingdom he would come to know as Wa. After a long journey, Hans found himself in the welcoming village of Onimori where the old man would begin his studies and research.
