The brief pause has let the others pull ahead and Azadokht leans into a loping stride to catch them, letting the power build, surge. Then Jotnar falls. Sliding to a halt, she lets it dissipate again. Looking back outside to the Rangers and scrunching her nose as she fully registers the stench of Fulric’s rendered form, then turning to take in the room in general – rectangular, four pillars – she frowns.
Her instincts scream with wrongness.
And then hell breaks loose.
As the demon climbs to his feet and the room reverberates with thundering stone – fear rising in her mind, then subsumed – Azadokht sees the skeletal beings rising from the ground, moving to surround the party. Darting away from the large, heavy, hooved quadruped, she reaches again for her divine might and unleashes it, a bolt of lightning shattering the bones of one even as they knit themselves together for the second time.
Then she glances at the floor beneath. That too seems off somehow – like reality’s colours have shifted, just perceptibly enough to notice but not enough to identify how.
She blasts it.
Azadokht takes her turn after everyone else. If Jotnar has 7 HP or fewer by this point, she moves to I5, attacks Jotnar with her Lightning Tome and continues to I7.
Otherwise, Azadokht moves to G4, attacks Draugar 1 with her Lightning Tome and continues to G2.

For the briefest of moments, fire and sulphur flood her senses.
Then, nothing.

“Yes, just as that. Wonderful, child.”
She stares in amazement, tiny sparks flickering in her equally small palm. “Wow… This is Light?” She turns her wide-eyed gaze up to the kindly face of the elder.
Kaufazata smiles backs. “Its weakest form. You don’t have much control yet, which is why it is in pieces, not a steady shine. That will come with practice – but you have a great deal of potential, I can tell.”
She nods happily, looking again to her hand and watching the sparks dance. Then she frowns – the sparks dissipate. “Mummy said that my running came from Light, too.”
“She may be right,” the priest answers, looking out of the building’s open roof to the sky. “Your work is mysterious and varied. Still,” he continues, warm expression directed again at her, “it is yours now, to do with as you wish and how you wish. Never forget that.” He leans down, ruffling her hair, and she giggles. “Now, I think it’s time you headed back to your parents, isn’t it?”
“Aww… But I was going to go and finish that horse!”
He chuckles. “Carving can wait until tomorrow, Aza. The day will not. Go on, now.”

As expected, this monster's might was beyond every mortal Astra had ever seen. Since it was an enemy, this meant that killing it faster would serve better to prevent deaths than healing the wounded. Of course, it would be foolish to attack without even the slight amount of cover afforded by the columns.
Move to M7 and attack Jotnar with Purge Tome.

“Come on, you’ve almost got it!” A hand clasps her own, hauling her upwards; its owner’s face beams. “I could practically feel the energy!” She brushes her legs off. “I… Okay.” Her eyes turn, a smile forming on her face as she looks to Rtapani. “One more time.”
Her mentor grins, nodding encouragingly as her body shifts to the position it had taken a minute or so before, Azadokht watching her closely to take up the same stance. “One, two –”
The two move in unison, swaying left, then right, in time with the beat of the human heart. Azadokht focusses. Everything is precise, woven to a pattern, her mind recalling each of the motions as she performs them, steady, continuous curves traced in air and upon stone. She spins and wheels and darts, her form moving with purpose, each twist of the hand, shift of the hip, turn of the foot encoding power, and suddenly she is moving without thought at all, her mind simply revelling in the joy of the beauteous, empowering, glorious flow.
She stops, opening her eyes, breathing. Rtapani leans against the wall, watching intently. She claps, shaking her head. “That was perfect, Aza – utterly natural. And Mihr knows, I feel like I’ve just woken up again!” she laughs. “Soon I’ll have nothing more to teach you! It’ll be you doing the teaching then, hmm?”
“Don’t say that!” She rushes forward, grasping at Rtapani’s forearm. “There’s still so much you can teach me!”
“Not true.” The dancer grins. “Give it six months. After that…” She smiles, utter compassion on her face. “Well, you’ll need to do your own thing. I’ve just given you the skills. Find some new dances – for me, Aza. I’d be proud.”
If healed, Azadokht moves to I7.
Recommending that if Jotnar is not defeated by the phase's end, Scherwiz attacks Jotnar with the Shamshir; if Jotnar is, requesting that she moves to take the Elixir from Azadokht and uses it to heal Azadokht.

Magic burst and blades flashed, and as Scherwiz's sword carved a line from Jotnar's throat to his colon, the demon dropped to its knees.
"Hrrg... heh... well done. When the time comes... perhaps his world will be worthy sport after all..."
With a macabre grin on his face, the giant began to sputter and hiss as his flesh dissolved into an acrid smoke that hung briefly in the air around his massive skeleton, before dispersing. With a rattle, the remaining skeletons in the chamber collapsed into piles of inert bone, and the stone that had sealed the passage fall open, revealing what lay beyond.
Bodies clogged the passage, a dozen or more warriors dressed in Hodeskall red; and scattered among them, the Rangers, bloodied and battered, but still standing.
Greham sat on the armored corpse of a behemoth, breathing heavily as blood ran down his cheek and dripped off his chin. His coat was torn in multiple places, revealing the chain mail beneath, which was also broken in a few. He looked up as the Company reappeared.
"Goddess... looks like we actually had the easier time out here."

A pair of axes whirl towards a thoroughly eviscerated shrub, blades scything through the air. They miss.
“Well, you didn’t quite have the mark of it that time.” Elof folds his arms, chuckling a deep chuckle. “Closer, though. You don’t build a ship in a day.”
She nods, dashing forward with preternatural swiftness to retrieve the axes, half-buried in the dusty, dry earth, and then running back equally quickly – the burly Regish trader blinks a couple of times at that. “How long did it take you to learn?” she asks, the common tongue still a little unfamiliar in her mouth.
“Eh… Ah – few years, practicing on and off. Couple of years younger than you when I started, actually.” The corner of his mouth quirks upwards. “You’re getting better faster than I did, though,” he admits, gesturing towards the plant. “Unbalanced things, axes. Not easy to throw. You keep at it, though, and… Well, you’re already throwing two at once – who knows what you’ll come up with when I’m gone?” He laughs again.
She smiles at the laughter, a little uneasily. “I should leaving. Phraates wishes me back.” She glances over her shoulder – and then her smile strengthens a little. “Thank you much,” she adds, almost bowing.
“My pleasure,” Elof rejoins. “My pleasure.”

Above her, healing Light. Azadokht groans as her eyes flutter open, wracking pain rapidly diminishing to a mere ache. The relief is sweet and, as she gazes upwards, she sees its wonderful source. “Ungh… Thank you so much… Astra…” Her voice comes out as a rasp – her throat is painfully dry but even beyond that, moving the muscles in her face hurts.
She rises to her feet slowly, slowly taking stock of first the skeletal remains – great, quadrupedal ones included – and then her garments, charred and burned. Mihr, that’s a little more than dragon-chewing. I’m going to need new clothes. “You got him, then?” she asks, tone unsteady. “Good. Good. What do - what do we do now?”

Greham looked from Astra to the smoking remains in the chamber and suppressed a shudder. "I'm glad we didn't have to find out. Either way, we should get out of here. I doubt there are that many Hodeskalls still around, but I still don't want to run into anymore at this point."
Scherwiz laughed. "If'n ye wanted to run, I be surprised ye di'n scarper when the door shut us in. Yon red-coated biscuit-eaters weren't exactly twixt ye an' yer way out."
"No," Greham agreed. "But we were between them and yours."
"Ha! Ye be a right heartie in a pinch, man!" Scherwiz said, punching Greham playfully in the shoulder. The Vissan man tried not to wince. "Let's be shovin' off afore the wind turns foul, then!"
The return trip to Jormandur was blessedly uneventful, and after two days' travel, the snowy hill over which the city sprawled emerged from the trees. The Company and the Rangers were brought inside the royal hall without question, to find Queen Sigalfa waiting for them upon her throne.
"Word has already spread from the mountains to the sea that Fulric has died a peasant's death at the hands of bandits. His army is decimated, and the few survivors left bereft and leaderless," she said, letting a slight smile escape her lips. "You have performed admirably, and I am in your debts. I do not like being in debt. So let us settle it now.
"Captain, if you and your Rangers would wait outside."
Greham gave the company a sidelong look, then nodded to the queen and departed without a word.
When the doors had closed behind the Rangers, Sigalfa addressed the Company alone. "Last you stood before me, you had one request. A piece of an ancient legend. Reginbor's fragment of the Fire Emblem.
"Is this still what you seek?"

"Well, that was easier than I thought," Scherwiz panted, laughing raspily through the thrashing they had taken from the behemoth as the company gathered around its body.
"Heh... ha... very good. Very, very good. But let's see how well you do without the home field advantage."
The earth all around the company, the Rangers, and the Hodeskalls started to rumble, tremble, and groan.
"What the hell?" someone said.
"Precisely."
With a roar and a crash, a massive stone slammed across the mouth of the cavern, sealing the company in with Jotnar, and the Rangers and the Hodeskalls out.
