I remember I once suggested that a Bambi remake should be completely silent to make it feel more like a nature documentary. Mostly as a way to differentiate from the original.
I wonder if that approach would have legitimately worked for The Lion King 2019? No songs, no voices, not even a narrator. Just use the visuals to tell the story without any words and have the realistic designs actually serve a purpose. Make it more of a Xenofiction-type story.
Okay, maybe you can keep "Circle of Life" because it's not actually sung by any of the characters. And it's the most iconic song, so there's that too.
They should do a live action Fantasia,no voices just music
Wouldn't be surprised if it's not already one of their projects
New theme music also a boxIf I remember right, Don Bluth wanted to do that with The Land Before Time with no dialogue, but either Steven Spielberg or George Lucas nixed the idea.
I think it's very hard to get a "no dialogue/less dialogue" movie made because there's a thinking that audiences will find the movie too boring if there's no talking. I also believe Pixar's Wall*E was supposed to have a lot less dialogue, but a lot ended up being added in the 2nd half at Disney's insistence.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationAh, if the reports are true then it's a pity—the images looked good, and while I didn't listen to many of the posted songs and clips, what I did see and hear I enjoyed. :/
As to realism... honestly, I think that it could have worked, as others have pointed out. Animals have sufficient facial mobility—or can be stretched a little without breaking verisimilitude—that they can be made expressive, I do feel.
Ah well, so it goes.
My Games & WritingThere was a remake of Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, but it didn't quite hold up to the original, and the self-congratulatory tone was really too much.
Optimism is a duty.Yeah,I've seen Fantasia 2000,the live action sections are clingy ,Pixar could do a Fantasia like project if I'm honest
New theme music also a boxI thought Fantasia 2000 was a sequel, not a remake? It had one or two segments from the original (namely Sorcerer's Apprentice) but the rest of the shorts were new concepts and the classical music that accompanied them weren't used (or didn't exist) in the first film.
has a clue, but it's usually not the correct one 0.55% of the time"Heah, on the savannah, a most peculiar ritual is taking place, where a baboon is presenting a lion cub to it's future prey. A most extraordinary event, never before seen by humans."
You'll need Morgan Freeman or an impressionist of him to narrate it.
The cold never bothered me anywayIt was a sequel, but also a remake of sorts, a modernizing of the original.
Optimism is a duty. You know what I'm reminded of? Disney's Dinosaur.
That film had CG photo-realistic animals in live-action backgrounds and was mostly an excuse to showcase how good Disney's CG department was. And ultimately, that movie's not really remembered for having an engaging story or characters, just for the visuals.
And yet for all its faults, it still had better facial expressions than the new Lion King. The characters sacrificed some realism for more stylized designs. And I think the fact the main characters are based on extinct animals means there was less pressure to make them 100% realistic.
Has to be David Attenborough. I would watch this if it was narrated by David Attenborough.
I would watch paint dry if it was narrated by David Attenborough.
I think the most fun could be had with stuff that makes sense from a movie standpoint but not from a documentary one.
"Ah, it seems the young cub has stumbled upon the fabled bridge of time. This took seven years to shoot. I hope you're happy, you little shi—" (hard cut to next scene)
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.I remember Roger Ebert's review of Dinosaur, he considered the movie more fun when the animals weren't talking.

I just saw a shot of live action Dumbo, and man, Dumbo looks unsettling. I think its the very human deep blue eyes, they just seem wrong on an elephant.
Optimism is a duty. Why Disney’s Live Action Remakes keep falling flat.
I think the medium of animation is a big but underrated part of why these movies worked in the first place. When we have unreal things surrounded by a sea of real (realistic looking animals talking) it’s much harder to suspend disbelief, than it is when you see those things animated, since it’s already not trying to represent reality.

RE: Pixar could do a Fantasia like project.
I would want Pixar to do it hand-drawn. Maybe one or two segments could be cgi, but I'd really eant some new hand-drawn stuff.

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationQuote the post when its like 10 posts up
New theme music also a boxI heard that they remove the scene where Rafiki explain to Simba that the past is sometime painful but he have to move on. If it true then i can only ask: Why? Isn't it the entire theme of the movie.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieAh, so that is what Lindsay Ellis meant by undermining the theme of the movie, then.
Optimism is a duty.Does this film actually fix or answer anything from the original, like, Nala's parentage? I'm also curious about the cub at the end. Ten bucks they make it vague looking so that it could theoretically be either Fluffy or Kiara.
Fluffy and Kiara are the same cub. And they might address the issue with who Nala's dad is. At least, I hope they do.
She/they. Hirrus Clutumnus is my comfort characterMy thoughts on the new Lion King toys at McDonald's.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationThey look like toys you'd get at a Chick-Fil-A.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.Chick-Fil-A would give you a book or something.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.
That seems like an infinitely more entertaining movie.
Disgusted, but not surprised
