Not completely legacy yet. You have just a little over 2 hours to TM a Mewtwo over to Shadow Ball, so if you want it, start spending those Charged TMs now.

I had assumed that, when you said now, you meant "now" now.

Eh, my sole Mewtwo is just a trophy at the moment - its stats are near-bottom, and I so seldom fight anything that would be weak to psychic or ghost moves that I don't see much point in burning a TM on it. That said, I have seen quite a few people going Oh, Crap! about that on my local Discord.

I mean, even with the full 15-point boost Gengar's Attack stat doesn't hold up to a 0 Attack Mewtwo. Heck, Shadow Ball Mewtwo is one of the best counters to other Mewtwo, as well as the upcoming Deoxys. And legacy 'mons have collectors value regardless... it might be worth doing anyway is what I'm saying.

So, it looks like Mewtwo's new moves are Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt.

Just a reminder, Chikorita Community Day is tomorrow.

I just checked; mine has Focus Blast, so I guess mine is going to specialize in breaking Blisseys. I'm not exactly on a shortage of heavy hitters, so I can deal with not having Shadow Ball.

Yeah, I've seen the local Discord go back and forth already about what is the best charge move on the new Mewtwo. It might vary somewhat for location, but I think that Thunderbolt is going to be the best choice locally. We have a very high number of water types that get into gyms, and I think that gives Thunderbolt the edge over Ice Beam (plus, with the increasing usage of steel types, Thunderbolt's neutral damage has the edge over Ice Beam's reduced damage). I'll probably shoot to get an Ice Beam user in part as backup and in part to be prepared for when Garchomp and Giratina become issues (I just know the former is going to be popular as a defender; even with the latter, though, I suspect I'll be more using my other anti-dragon resources). I may bother with Flamethrower if it turns out my cup runneth over with good Mewtwos, but as I've got several good Fire options already (plus, Gen IV is not exactly when you need to load up on Fire attackers - that said, if Abomashow is as tanky as I think it might be, I could see it being used for gym defense locally), it's a super low priority.

Nah, I'll still collect more Mewtwo to feed candies to my 100. All sacrificed for the greater good!

Good news: Mewtwo now drops 5 candy!

Bad news: Its catch rate has been lowered to match the other legendaries, and its HP has been boosted beyond the normal Tier 5 raids, making it a pseduo-Tier 6.

Weird news: During After the Asian-Pacific Community Day, every Pokemon was suddenly and unexpectedly replaced with #891 (the recently leaked new Gen 8 Pokemon), which would turn into a Ditto when caught. Some people had a similar experience with Kecleon suddenly appearing en masse and turning into Ditto when caught.

Personal news: This didn't happen during the Euro-African Community Day. I got 8 shiny Chikorita. UPDATE: Right as CD finished #891 is spawning everywhere.

Okay, so in both CDs, #891 dominated spawns for 30 minutes after the Asian CD ended, then again after Europe's CD ended. All of them that were caught turned into Ditto, except in cases where someone had shiny-checked them before the CD window closed, in which case it turned back into a Chikorita after being caught. Niantic's Head of Marketing even tweeted it. This seems to be a marketing campaign, dropping a Pokemon no-one's ever heard of into Go right at the moment when everyone will be out playing. Americans: expect the same after your CD ends.

Yeah, that durability change is rough. What could comfortably be trioed by strong accounts is now something we had a real rough time 5-manning with three strong accounts and two so-so accounts. Finished with just 8 seconds left. Granted, this one was weather-boosted and had Psychic as its charged move, so we were taking heavy damage. It's apparently still trioable, but the only Reddit post to do it thus far fielded 18x level 40 Shadow Claw (legacy) Gengar. Yeah...

Candy change is super nice, though. I've already caught a couple on (Silver) Pinap. So good.

Well, got a bunch of Chikoritas (and evolved a Shiny one all the way), and now the new Mythical is appearing everywhere. Caught at least one (which ended up being a Ditto).

Reddit seems to have settled on calling it Nutto. It's good enough I suppose. My sister's husband was happy to get a Ditto for his Mew quest from the whole thing.

Got a shiny Frenzy Plant Meganium, and also encountered a few of those weird things. Could use more Ditto candy, at least.

So, first things first, got two shiny Chikoritas. Plus, due to it being windy, got two 90+% weather boosted Mewtwos from raids. Neat one was the one that spawned at an EX raid location 30 minutes into Community Day. Remember that ad from prelaunch with the people crowding around Times Square to catch Mewtwo? Felt like that - it was pretty cool.

Now, as for what many are calling "Nutto" (we were calling it "Nuthead" locally, but I can see why "Nutto" is catching on)...

My first encounter with it was about an hour before Community Day. I was about to wander over to a Mewtwo raid that was hatching before the event when I saw it on the radar. Honestly, because I didn't look too closely at it at first, I honestly thought it was a G Unown spawning nearby. Of course, that said, I don't have said Unown, so I beelined for it and got a massive WTF when I got there. Not to mention, I took screen shots as well as later screen shots when CD ended and the Nearby list was full of Nutto. I was still seeing Nutto pop up occasionally on the radar until at least 7 PM tonight, albeit much less commonly.

I'm not buying that this is an actual new 'mon just yet. The design felt more like it was something that was deliberately created for internal testing (I mean, seriously, a silver Ditto with a brass nut for a head?), but Arceus knows we've had weirder designs over the years (we're only two generations away from Klink and family).

All that said, I kept the Ditto that my first Nutto transformed into, just in case.

Nutto got me a handful of candy and a sweet 0% Ditto.

Continued my tradition of never getting wild shinies that are over 80% (any shiny I have over that is from raids/quests). The game tried to make up for that in volume, so I guess I have 7 spare Chikoritas for trading down the line. I can't really complain, though, since I got 98% and 96% Chikoritas, both with decent levels. Evolved those alongside my Lucky 93% and the 89% Bayleef I had from the Johto event (this one normally wouldn't be considered, but it was level 33 out of the box in addition to its IV, so...).

Raided three Mewtwo, though without Shadow Ball, I'm not particularly interested in using them. The candy is super nice, though and I managed to get Pinap bonus on the second Mewtwo, so yay to that. My 87%, 14 Atk legacy Mewtwo is that much closer to level 40 now (54 candy to go). After that, I've got one last legacy Mewtwo to take from 20 to 30. If I'm somehow still netting candy after that, I guess I'll start working the four who aren't at 35+ up to 35.

Incidentally, my sister's husband also came across a "Nutto" before the CD actually started as well, which confused me and made me think on showing up ahead of time was a bug. But apparently not.

The people in my local discord have been calling it "Alolan Ditto".

There’s quite the argument about Nutto going on in the main Pokémon thread, and across the entire Pokémon fandom, not just Go, as to what exactly is going on. I’m currently of the opinion that this was a preview of the new Pokémon that will be appearing in Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, which can be transferred to Go. Whatever the truth turns out to be, this whole thing reminds me of the old playground talk of PokéGods back when generations weren’t a thing.

Speaking of which, Nutto still seems to be showing up today. I caught one by an Arby's today and saw another one show up on my tracker.

Yeah, seems that initial 30 mins of spamming it was just a really blatant neon sign to let people know it exists. I ran into another one on the way out from raiding, about 90 mins after Chikorita Day ended, plus saw one on radar right before I went to bed.

Is it possible Nutto is some sort of glitch pokemon ala Missing No? It seems pretty plausible to me. It turning into Ditto could be some sorta failsafe (the game realizing it's not a normal pokemon and turning it into a perfect ditto as a placeholder)

Pokemon Go already has a placeholder model for errors: the Substitute Doll. Nutto was discovered in the code a few days before it appeared in the game, with its assets replacing Kecleon. If it wasn't supposed to appear it would never have been put into that slot. Some people saw Kecleon instead of Nutto because their game hadn't updated to the latest assets lately; rebooting the game fixed that. It's not just a random jumble of code, however it looks; it has fully animated walking, attacking and idle animations, a unique cry, and even a shiny model (not all Pokemon in Go have those yet); someone put a lot of effort into making it.

And the way it came out, appearing for exactly 30 minutes after each of the 3 Community Day windows, with the other CD stuff like Meganium still learning Frenzy Plant still active suggesting that they actually used the CD system to do this distribution. The fact that this is the 808th Pokemon to be revealed, and this happened 808 days after Pokemon Go came out. Its assets are tagged "Pokemon 891", which might actually be its index number since Zeraora (the current last Pokemon) being index 888 (despite its Pokedex number being #807), leaving two slots for the starter Pikachu and Eevee in Let's Go. All the clues point to it being intentional.

It turning into Ditto was basically the only way they could implement an uncatchable Pokemon short of it having a 0% catch rate and a 100% flee rate, which would just make people complain about wasting balls and berries. It's also the only Pokemon that doesn't show up in the logs if it flees, nor does it increment the "seen" count by one; if it did it would probably count as seeing a Kecleon since it's currently using that space in the code. That would require a special exception built in.

So, I'm going to say that my previous statement about Nutto being something created solely for testing that accidentally got out is completely wrong. While not as ridiculous as Community Day, I still am seeing them spawn locally 48 hours after the first sighting. While I can see why it wouldn't necessarily be the highest priority of fixes (seeing as it doesn't crash the game or break it in any way), I feel like it'd be something that they'd have fixed by now if it wasn't supposed to be there.

Okay, now that Meltan has been confirmed as a real thing and not a random bug...

I like how this was handled. The buzz was great, they nailed how to reveal it, and it was neat as part of the fandom to feel like we were actually part of it all as opposed to just watching it.

Not saying that they should do every reveal like this, but it was top notch.
