Looking good. If anyone cares, I've started working on mine again after spending a long time and quite a lot of words on writing things altogether less fun. Already worked out the name of the inevitable Savage Girl du jour, if she ever gets to make her appearance: Leche Batida.

I'm not dead....after 6+ months....Death Becomes You is NOT a dead fic.... I just need to reread all 160k+ words tho, I have completely forgotten where I'm at and where I need to go. Given the nature of this story, this is kinda necessary to give myself a recap. So it might be a month or two more before I get back into the swing of things and chapters start churning out again. My apologies to everyone.

So nobody's posted in here in a long while, so I figure something 'big' would be a good thing to bump affairs with. No I haven't updated either of my fics, sadly. :V

However, since I got RPG Maker on sale a few weeks ago I've been toying with the idea of making a Zootopia fangame of some sort, just for funsies, since I don't believe anyone else has made one with RPG Maker (or at least not one that I've heard of). It'd probably be kinda basic and not an expansive sandbox you'd hope a Zootopia game would be, but I'd aim to at least replicate Nick and Judy's banter. :V

I have a few plot ideas, but one recurring thing that pops up between them is that the entire game takes place in an apartment complex of some sort. My initial idea was a rundown sort of place where Nick used to live, but then I started considering the Pangolin Arms (i.e. Judy's place) instead, and then perhaps both (with Judy's being mostly prey and the other being mostly pred) being located a short distance from each other. It'd be an adventure sort of game, with some investigaty, interrogaty elements. Is there anything any of you guys would want to see in particular from such a thing?

So there is a Zootopia fanfic idea that I've been thinking about for a while, though I doubt I'll ever write it.

Basically, Nick and Judy are invited to attend a science conference being held in Zootopia by Dr. Jordan Cursor, a scientist from the bird-inhabited city of Aeropolis (who happens to be a Jerdon's courser, a type of shorebird). He has come to Zootopia to demonstrate his invention, a "space mirror" that can focus beams of sunlight onto a patch of ground to make crops grow faster. But during the conference, the plans for the space mirror are stolen. . . by a dolphin piloting a Mobile Fishbowl Humongous Mecha!

His name is Tiberius Tursiops, and he intends to build a much larger version of the space mirror in order to melt the polar ice caps, so he and his sea mammal minions (an elephant seal named Tiny Tim and a narwhal named Otto) can rule the world. Nick, Judy, and Dr. Cursor have to stop him before Zootopia is completely flooded.

Meanwhile, Nick has a run-in with an old friend from his criminal days—a thylacine named Mike who used to be one of his partners. Mike now resents Nick for abandoning his old lifestyle to join the police, but Nick and Judy need his help to break into Tursiops's lab and stop him from launching the space mirror.

That sounds interesting ^^

And I've unfortunately kinda given up my original story with my custom rabbit. I've been thinking of writing a domestic-comedy sort of story where Judy and Nick share a duplex apartment with Jack Savage and Skye, with there not really being any "plot" but plenty of chapter-long hijinks.

[up][up][up] Not sure. I guess just a good variety of characters, since part of the movie's appeal is just how MANY animals there are. (Would not object to skunks of course.)

[up][up][up] Sounds like a good plot to a Saturday Morning Cartoon....or a James Bond film. XD

EDIT: Oh and I started writing again for my Zootopia fanfics. 1000+ words a night typically.

I've been putting Death Becomes You on hold for a good while (going on 2 years now!), but I'm currently focusing on In Darkness I Hide until I finish that one up, then I'll be going back to DBY to finish off and move on from Zootopia, finally!

Welp, I finished chapter 22 of Death Becomes you. It isn't published yet since it needs proofing and beta-reading by Berserker 88 among others, I'm still plugging away at In Darkness I Hide and getting the rest of Day 4 up before I launch 22 again and get back to working on both at once! I feel like my writing mojo is coming back!

Writing mojo going strong. Chapter 22 of Death Becomes You is published and up for everyone to read. Yeah, it's been almost 2 years since last update, but better late than never, right?

Wooooo! Good job, DFW! I always get the warm fuzzies seeing someone complete a story. grin

Now you just gotta finish that one with the bats and the blood and the death and all that other good stuff.

Bumpin' this thread once again, because after so long I've started toying with returning to the world of urban animal critter fanfic. :V

Specifically, I'm thinking of actually writing a certain dumb idea I had a long time ago - an Elsewhere Fic dealing with an entirely original cast of characters in an entirely different city in an entirely different country, but taking place roughly at the same time as the movie. I've got some of the key plot points down, but there's just one thing that's weighing on me - I can't decide what the main villain's evil scheme should be. Well, I say main villain, there'll probably be more than one, working together.

Without wishing to spoil too much, remember how Bellwether's gripe in the movie was with predators and her evil plot revolved around turning the public against them? Well, I'm thinking the Big Bad of this story is motivated primarily by size - so what kind of evil scheme would lend itself well to hitting big mammals... or small mammals, for that matter?

Anything original not involving Nick and Judy or anyone existing in original canon is going to be a tough sell and probably not going to be a popular fic or highly read one if my own original character fic is anything to go by, but props to you for wanting to do it regardless. Do it for the personal satisfaction!

As for a evil, dastardly plot by the villains, could be like Legend of Korra Season 1, where there is this outspoken small mammal who makes a convincing case against larger mammals squandering precious resources and encroaching on smaller mammals territory or area and should be removed or deported elsewhere so smaller mammals can live in peace and not in fear of their livelihood. If written right, this could make an extremely compelling case of class warfare and hierarchy.

Yeah, I figured ahead of time it's not gonna get a massive surge of popularity, but to be frank, most of the fanfic ideas I've had over the years have never exactly been proven popularity farms. Lots of minor characters, OCs, original worldbuilding and very little shipping. :V

That's a neat idea for the bad guy - I have since decided on something and it's broadly like that, but I will say that it's still gonna be mostly self-centered above all else, since IMO villains who manipulate the public for petty and short-sighted reasons are a bit more true to life than those who have some kind of grand plan (even real-life bad guys who do have a grand plan may devolve into just seeking short-term gain over time, and then there's the issue of their underlings); it's why I still headcanon that Bellwether's scheme was primarily about seizing power above all else. :V

On an unrelated note, I remember asking this question a long time ago, but - how common is it for reptiles to show up in Zoot fanfics? I vaguely recall Rich Moore tweeting that sapient reptiles do exist somewhere, along with birds, but then I also vaguely recall him saying the exact opposite. I just figure that the reason we don't see them in the movie is because Zootopia is too far north for them to live there comfortably, outside maybe Sahara Square (which just so happens to be the one major quarter of the city that the movie didn't really explore). They're mostly restricted to the world's southern hemisphere because they need that external warmth to survive, and those who go to colder climates need to bring hot lamps with them to bask under.

I personally think it's a bit of wasted potential to strictly declare them not sapient. If you want to use them, go for it. If not, you still have plenty of material to work with. That's my take on it anyway.

I myself have already established the existence of sapient reptiles with the Sauriat Union, which is a concept I believe you contributed to a few years back, Pres. I take it you haven't been on the BtBW bandwagon for a while, but that crazy idea for a reptile city that we had has finally become a reality. And yes, it's located smack dab in the middle of a frozen hellhole, but is powered by a giant heat lamp, so the city itself stays nice and toasty. tongue

[up] I need to play catch up then on that story! I feel like I'm behind after that raccoon snapped Judy's neck in half and killed her. //falsespoilers

But yes, petty reasons make for best reasons since they are immediately relatable.
