Hmm. I'm having trouble with the boss of the first mission in the third region, the Tatarimokke. I'm not sure if it's a stats problem or a strategy problem, but I always seem to start the fight on the back foot and then stay there until I die.

It's been fun.

I'm not very far into the game yet, but I'm really felling the swichglave/scythe. Aside from looking cool, It seams to be good in almost every situation.

The swtichglaive is definitely my favorite new weapon in the game, if not my favorite in the series. Its fast, the way you can switch between all the stances super quick, and the damage it does over time is great.

I've been using the spear quite a bit, which is interesting because I basically completely ignored it in the first game. The high stance is good for poking at Yokai horns.

Nothing beats the hatchets though. Wish they dropped for me more often...

Spear and sword are my two go-tos. I may try to branch out later once my stats get higher, but sticking with a familiar moveset is really helping out.

It's been fun.

Always been a Hammer dude myself, but I find myself not using it as much because I'm trying to get all the skill points for the other weapons.

I started with hammer/hatchets, but hatchets while fun have sort of poor damage output so I sort of bounced around between weapons ignoring the dual swords/katana(which suck early game IMO) and spear but atm I'm using odachi/tonfa.

I just beat the first mission in the 2nd region, I completely annihilated the boss lol. Dude got owned HARD. The snake boss gave me the most trouble so far because they changed her from the demo a bit and made her far less exploitable when armless.

On the Odani Castle mission.

I gotta say, the level design has improved Substantially over the original, and it wasn't that bad there, but its even better then DLC from the first game, which already improved upon the original.

Can't wait for the DLC to drop, as its 3 story expansions like with the first game.

Well, I've just reached the Shibata Katsuie boss fight in region 4, and hoo boy, this is some garbage design.

Getting hit once and immediately being chained into death. So much fun. Good thing I've always disliked this asshole.

Finally beat him. Though I have to say... the story is just getting more and more disjointed. I'm pretty sure the only reason I can follow the chain of events is because I've studied this period of history, and the character motivations are so loose they generally don't make any sense.

It's been fun.

Guardian Spirit attacks and Healing spells like the Oasis Talisman don't raise your Onmyoji proficiency. Frustrating, since I invested in magic specifically for those two abilities.

Also don't give Sudama your accessories. They don't trade any back.

And yeah I can understand getting a bit lost with the story if you aren't familiar with the Sengoku era. Familiarity with the history is something the game definitely takes for granted.

The thing is, I am. The only reason the area-4 twist of Hidenoji defecting to the Mitsuhide army makes sense is if they assume everything Saito did under the influence of Red Eyes was specifically for Red Eyes, and automatically assume that Saito was working on good faith aside from that. It just doesn't make sense.

It's been fun.

One of my favoite Death messages in this game is "Died an unfornate death to Tesso". The death in question, the Tesso's grapple, which invovles knocking you down and Farting on your face to death.

Its morbidly hilarious. [lol]

The level design is great yeah. Really this game is just better than Nioh 1 on like every aspect. I'm having SUCH a blast with it, it's all I want to play ATM.

The character creator being great helps a bunch too. And the stages I felt weren't even bad in the first game, but they're notably better this time around. I just beat the owl boss, which I almost beat first try but then it activated dark realm and I couldn't get that last hit in. Beat it 4th attempt.

God, that level is still my least favorite out of both games.

I liked that level. It was satisfying to explore. I can get why it might rankle some people though.

Karasu Tengu are as big a pain as ever of course. The thing is, they actually aren't that big a deal mano a mano. They have a lot of startup and ending lag on their attacks. But to fight them well you gotta dodge side-to-side, and they love attacking you on narrow platforms, or after you've already been exhausted fighting a bunch of minions. Dirty bastards.

They also don't do Wind Damage, as Wind and Earth have been replaced by Corruption and Blessing instead.

Their staff lunge following their spin kick still deals an absurd amount of damage though it's a red attack now so if you're good you can burst counter it, but I tend to mess up if I do it on reaction and just lose half my lifebar. They're still annoying and now they aren't even weak to electric anymore so I feel they're slightly harder.

On the plus side, the onmyudo are easier now. Them and the flying bolts are the only enemies returning from Nioh 1 that seem easier.

I just got to region 5 now, some of the boss designs in this game are so freakin cool. Nasha and the red/blue guy are some of my favorite boss designs in either game.

The fire cat on the wheels is great, and Ryomen Sukuna is too, though I found him surprisingly very easy compared to the Beta.

Ryomen Sukuna's Boss Attack, Fire and Ice, is also probably one of the best in the whole game due to how easy it is to get the Confusion ailment off.

God damn is the Gust Talisman satisfying to use.

A bit situational, but it just absolutely shuts down snipers and even turns them to your advantage. So many fights that could have been very frustrating just wind up steamrolled.

Also what's the drop rate on the Genryu Armor Smithing Text holy shit I've spent over an hour farming that boss.

What is this good for?

The game's versatile enough with builds that you can make just about anything work, but most Ninjutsu builds start like that. And Ninjutsu tends to be favored by a lot of players right now, you got people just shurikening bosses down.

On another note, it seems a good majority of the players are using female avatars. Didn't actually expect that. The game still slips up with pronouns every once in awhile.

The biggest issue I've found is that Yoshitatsu is sometimes referred to as male even when that's not the case.

It's been fun.
