Spyro General Thread

They did do well by any reasonable standard. Activision (and by extension, the entire AAA industry) is anything but reasonable, however.

COD #47 still made more than Spyro Reignited or Crash 4, so that's all they care about. One has to wonder why they even bother greenlighting anything else in the first place. Nothing's ever gonna top their cash cow and they have to know it.

There are heavy rumors of Treyarch's COD game set for this year (which was delayed already from last year) was expected to be bad internally or has been cancelled, so Activision is going all in on COD Warzone since it's the only thing out right now.

To add on to that point, Kotick took a 50% pay cut last week, something he's never done, which just adds fuel to the fire.

And I honestly wonder why people keep buying Call Of Duty games, when they are way too similar to each other. And also I'm wondering why enough people haven't gotten sick of it considering that's what happened to Guitar Hero.

Again, I can't stand Call of Duty. I like Crash and Spyro. Heck, I'm more interested in stuff like Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero than I am in Call of Duty.

I also do not understand why AAA publishers lack reasonable standards. Is it because of how stupidly high development costs for most AAA games are?

It's because their shareholders demand infinite growth, so they just double down on their most profitable IP again and again, damn anything else.

Anyone that thinks about it for more than 2 seconds can tell you that infinite growth is literally impossible, but capitalists have never let a pesky thing like reality get in the way of trying to make money.

Ah. I keep forgetting about shareholders.

Even I can see that infinite growth ain’t possible. At some point, you will stop growing.

I don't know if I could ever deal with shareholders, my reaction to asking why projects get greenlit would just be flat "Well the previous one made money, maybe not alot, but a profit no matter how small is a profit." or "We need new I Ps." probably then followed up with "What the other answer is needed?".

Huh. Never heard of this until now. Treyarch is the go-to developer for COD, right? And being "bad internally" means the top brass aren't exactly confident in it? So if either that or it getting canceled is true, then Activision is trying to counter it by having all their other studios working on Warzone, which is their answer to Fortnite? Still not sure if that's the best approach to things.

I saw an article blurb about this, but I figured it was just spin or a fluff piece. The last time I heard of a CEO taking a 50% pay cut was when Satoru Iwata did it so Nintendo wouldn't have to fire anyone, but I bet in Kotick's case, this is more about saving his own butt than anything.

It was a spin. He's also got himself entitled to an end-of-year bonus or something that completely offsets any reduction in salary.

I also remember that a little over a month ago Kotick received a massive bonus while employees were getting laid off.

EDIT: Apparently someone is saying the "Toys for Bob doing COD" thing isn't necessarily the end of the line, pointing out how Beenox was able to do CTR while supporting COD, but...

Treyarch put out Black Ops: Cold War last year. Wouldn't this year's be IW or Sledgehammer?

That might be right. I just don't pay enough attention to the COD franchise.

A new model for Spyro was leaked through a data mine of Crash on the Run.

It's a really small change (mostly the snout and horns) but idk how I feel about it. Spyro looks more like a bull with wings rather than a dragon to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if none of us follow COD.

IW seems to still have Warzone right now, so based on the pattern, the next COD should theoretically be coming from Sledgehammer. Or could 2021 be the year we *don't* have a new COD? If we're honest, it's not like it'd be the end of the world. Pretty sure even 360 games like Black Ops 2 still get played a lot...

OMG that design looks fire. It's probably on par or just *slightly* better than Reignited!Spyro. I might even get Crash on the Run just for him. Anyone played COTR. Actually, it would be a pleasant surprise if this was supposed to be a plug for an unannounced Spyro game, but with the COD stuff, I'm not holding my breath...yet.

and I don’t think a lot of us on this forum really follow Call of Duty.

I’m not too big on that Spyro design. It’s the nose that looks off to me. I prefer the Reignited look myself.

Just as well that the Spyro design seems to be exclusively for Crash's mobile game, so it can be safely ignored by all of us.

Its probably the angle. It looks fine for the dark Spyro. It just makes him look a little more cartoony, I think.

What would make an ideal new game for Spyro?

A collectathon where you go from world to world collecting (dragons/cores/eggs/etc.) and gems with most of the game focused around platforming and puzzles based around your core movement abilities combined with your breath weapon.

So the Spyro event for Crash: On the Run! has been fully unveiled, and we've got a preview for Dark Spyro's stage. Turns out, there is a surprising reference in it to a certain continuity.

Microsoft has bought Activision

So we might be getting a Spyro 4 after all?

"Might" being the keyword here...
