It is pretty much impossible to talk about the Ant-man franchise without making a pun. It just is the smaller, family friendly franchise in the MCU. It's worth is bigger than the box office, though, because being so family friendly it is kind of the new starting drug for the MCU. You know, the stuff parents can show their younger children and said children will most likely love it.
Looks like Ant-Man has shrunken in box office numbers. :V

Mileena MadnessInflation-adjusted, Incredibles II has the 6th-highest domestic gross for the first release of any animated movie (behind Snow White, Fantasia, The Lion King, Shrek 2, and Sleeping Beauty). And the first two of those are from an era when even the existence of feature-length animated films was a novelty.
So it's definitely doing well. And it looks like the year's top 3 movies will all be superhero movies, so no superhero fatigue here.

It's actually doing better than Antman as that only made 81 million dollars in it's first week and Antman and the Wasp is estimated to have a similar budget.
As an update Incredibles II now the highest grossing Pixar movie in the US by any measure.
Based on weekend estimates, Ant-Man & the Wasp may have had the worst second-week drop of any MCU film (Spider-Man: Homecoming currently holds that “honor”, but Ant-Man could surpass it once the actuals come in).
Peace is the only battle worth waging.S u p e r h e r o f a t i g u e?
Mileena MadnessIt does fair well during the weekdays so don’t worry.

Ant-Man was the lowest grossing MCU movie (except maybe for The Incredible Hulk) so expectations weren't exactly sky high here.
Kids just aren't responding to shrinking superheroes like they used.
Will they pull a Ragnarok with a new director?
Mileena MadnessAnt-man's movies aren't seen as being on the level of Thor's first two movies, so not likely. Plus I believe the film was cheap and is still turning a profit.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?It does. Hell, the movie hasn't even been released in a lot of markets.
Plus, one shouldn't overlook that there were two somewhat big releases.
Ant-man is exactly what it is supposed to be, a smaller outing to be enjoyed by the whole family. There is no need for it to break records, it only has to make more than the first one.

Oh my gosh. Skyscraper didn't do well, and I just saw an article saying it must be Dwayne Johnson fatigue. Why do so many analysts want there to be fatigue so badly?
Transformers fatigue!
Mileena MadnessYeah, BS. I mean, I really don't get the obsession with The Rock, but for one, movies starring him has bombed before (remember Baywatch?) and two, a lot is about timing. The market is kind of crowded. Jumanji partly did that well because it run for weeks without serious competition.
How did Rampage do?
Edited by slimcoder on Jul 17th 2018 at 12:46:40 PM
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Rampage grossed $420 million, so it did well.
So, the Incredibles 2. Man. Like I said, I was barely awake and of sane mind, but still, it grossed $500 million domestically, resulting in one of my all time biggest box office prediction failure.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. So, Mamma Mia 2 and The Equalizer 2 will both battle for the number one spot this weekend...any bets? My money is on Mamma Mia.
I agree.
In other news, this weekend’s box office is predicted to have the most sequels in the top 10 ever.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Mamma Mia has way broader appeal.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Well, looks like we are right, Mamma Mia is leading the chase.
Mamma Mia 2 and Equalizer 2? That's no competition, most likely the former is going to steamroll over the latter.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Not really...they are currently close than you might think. Mamma Mia is ahead, though.
Mamma Mia 2: $35 million.
The Equalizer 2: $13 million.
And previously,
Mamma Mia: $610 million.
The Equalizer: $192 million.
Lastly, Mamma Mia 2 is PG-13, while The Equalizer 2 is rated R. So, no, there was never a competition, and if it is, it's a heavily lopsided one.
Granted, the world of box office is always unpredictable. But there are things called likelihood.

Incredibles II now has the highest unadjusted domestic gross of any animated film, and before the week is out will have the highest adjusted domestic gross of any Pixar film.
