As Calvin and Hobbes had ran off to the library, they were still within earshot of Rick and Tairee's cconversation. Hobbes appeared to be trying to convince Calvin to use his slippery belly to its full potential and to be a human bowling ball but Calvin held up a flipper to indicate that he wanted silence. He waddled on over to Rick.

"Hey lady, did I hear you correctly? You have a way that I can contact people from my own universe? If so, I should probably send a message to Mom. She worries about Hobbes, you know." Calvin said, trying to flippantly play off the fact that he very much missed his parents.

Cole maintained his bewildered face as Arcade apparently seemed...rather bemused by pretty much all their interactions, and started to walk out of the library with him. However, on the way, a voice that was familiar to Cole, and likely only Cole, of the two of them, could be heard saying Sans's name. It seemed the skeleton had been in the library the whole time, just easy to miss with all the crowds about.

Arcade seemed to consider this a rather lucky thing, which Cole had to agree with. He didn't think the man wanted to spend so long looking for Sans, especially on a day when they were apparently supposed to be having a good time. Cole just moved along with Arcade's guiding, waving a bit to Sans, Caro, and the two girls he recognized from the day before, who were...talking to someone?

Oh. Oh! That voice, he did recognize-

Caro said something to them about waiting until this was done, and Cole was quick to nod his head, grabbing Arcade's hand and offering the man a rather pleased smile, apparently just trying to be as quiet as he could in thanking him.

Then, still staying silent, Cole plopped down to sit cross-legged on the floor, setting the basket his hat had become in front of it, and his stuffed bunny on his lap. The basket was full of those shiny little eggs, and some other things he didn't recognize immediately. They definitely needed examination. It was a good enough way to pass the time until Sans was done catching up with his br-

Wait. What?

Cole's head shot up again, eyes going wide, staring at the tablet in Sans's hands, looking both stunned and deeply unnerved at the same time, but remaining silent, just grabbing his bunny in his arms and hugging it more tightly.

Library

Arcade squinted in confusion at Sans' message; partially because he wondered what Sans wanted to talk about, and partially because he didn't know what he was looking at. It had a screen like a securitron, but it was so small. Still, Arcade would prefer talking to anyone over wandering around alone. He nodded and moved to wait against the wall.

He was stopped by Cole squeezing his hand; Arcade assumed it was in thanks. He could only smile back awkwardly. That about summed up his experience with the bunny-boy. Cole seemed interested in the basket he had, so Arcade just left him to it. He leaned against a wall that he hoped would be out of shot when Sans moved the tablet around.

It wasn't hard to figure out that Sans was using his message, which sent Arcade spiraling again. This time he managed to school his face well enough to simply appear to be thinking incredibly hard about something, something not as upsetting as it really was. Cole had mentioned relaxing earlier, and Arcade considered actually just letting his problems go and enjoying a world without the normal dangers of the Wasteland. No raiders, no deathclaws, no NCR.

When Arcade thought about that, his neutral face twisted with anger. The NCR, how dare they? He had been working for the Followers for years, never doing anything other than medical research. Who did they think they were to hunt him down for trying to help them? The Enclave was gone, and they still couldn't allow some elderly people and one doctor help them fight off an actual living threat? They had to kill them, imprison them, and pursue him for years into the future? This was the future he had fought for?

Library ~ Getting Better?

Fate blinked, mostly out of confusion. However, it didn't take very long something resembling gratefulness to creep onto her face.

"...Wait, really?" she eventually asked, "But we've just met...." She managed another small smile. "I'd love to, but...that's...not quite what I meant...."

"There's quite a few problems with that plan, anyway," Arf added with a shake of her head, "But I'll be nice and save you the rant."

Then Sans turned the tablet so that Papyrus could properly see her.

"...Little sister?" Arf said, after a few moments of flabbergasted silence. Then she shook her head. "...'Werei-'...I can't even pronounce that. Anyway, if you must know I am, in fact, a wolf. As Fate's familiar, I'm able to take a human form." The disgust in her next statement was pretty obvious. "The stupid outfit's just something that's been forced on me when I'd very much like to be wearing something else."

It wasn't too long into this exchange, particularly at the words "very male and very skeleton," that Fate just started giggling, albeit rather quietly.

Library - mood swings

"IT'S NOT?" Papyrus asked, surprised, "THEN HOW ARE YOU LOST? USUALLY BEING LOST MEANS YOU CAN'T FIND YOUR WAY..." He trailed off, but it didn't take very long for realization to hit him "OH! IS IT THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH YOURSELF? WELL, WORRY NOT! THERE WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE MANY OPPORTUNITIES AHEAD OF YOU!" He confidently stated, then all of sudden his energy levels seemed to go down significantly. "YOU SEE, ME AND MY BROTHER DIDN'T HAVE MUCH AND WE ONLY HAD EACH OTHER, BUT WE PERSEVERED! AND NOW I'M A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL GUARD, AND SANS IS A VERY TALENTED SCIENTIST WHO BECAME ONE OF THE MOST BRILLIANT MINDS OF ALL MONSTERKIND! IT WILL NOT BE EASY, BUT JUST DO WHAT I WOULD DO: BELIEVE IN YOU!"

Sans was just letting his brother talk and trying to gather info about this new world in the meantime. So he really was a member of the royal guard now, and Sans himself had become a scientist... Well, now that was interesting.

"BUT, IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU NEED SOME HELP, YOU CAN ASK SANS! MY BROTHER IS LAZY AND SCRUFFY, BUT ALSO VERY SMART, AND NICE, AND VERY GREAT! YOU CAN COUNT ON HIM... SOMETIMES." Papyrus slightly narrowed his eyes as they shifted to the side.

While still keeping the camera focused on Fate and Arf, Sans used his other hand to put the pumpkin head on and then slowly turned the tablet around to put him and Caro back onscreen. Of course, Papyrus was quick to notice what was different.

"... SANS! YOU'RE NOT HELPING! WHY ARE YOU WEARING A PUMPKIN?!"

"y'see, when i put this pumpkin on, i become..." Sans paused to build some anticipation "...the pun king"

Papyrus just stopped. Staring at Sans with a blank look on his face before then hitting his head on his keyboard and letting out a groan.

"I SEE THESE LAST 10 DAYS DID LITTLE TO IMPROVE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR." He commented, his energy sounding almost completely drained off.

Library - Now that's more like it

Papyrus's offer had the effect on Fate she had hoped for and even if iprobably inadvertedly, his antics had even gotten to laught a little. I was quite good to hear it. She felt a very warm sensation and the wide grin on her expression quite showed it.

He also kinda managed to hit the mark on one of the poor girl's issues. They had been telling sort of the same before, but hopefully this time it would stick and make things a bit better ...

Huh, so apparently with all the horrible stuff going on, the version of Sans that was supposed to exist in this new world was much more motivated. He did seem to like science a lot, so hopefully he would able to ajust to this new role.

Papyrus had a rather adverse reaction to Sans putting the pumpkin on and predictably made a pun about it. It made her hesitate a little to follow it, since the other skeleton probably wouldn't appreciate her having gotten affected by Sans' sense of humor either. On the other hand, if it had even the slightlest chance of getting Fate to laugh even just a little more ...

Finally, Caro then spoke, now with a bit of sheepish smile, "Hey, that is a perfectly gourd pun, no need to pick a bone with it!"

"oh, nice to meet you, mr. tennyson! and gwen, i suppose." John waved over to them both. "ben over here is fine! ...i suppose. he's fought a large robot lobster with me, so he's certainly competent."

He turned back to Ben, proceeding to ask him what he wanted to ask the moment he came here again. "so, what did i miss?"

Rero.

Sora bent his head towards the ground as his Keyblade was pointed at the ground on a angle. Sora said apologetically, "Sorry Ben." He felt bad now. He didn't want to upset anyone, let alone his new friends. Well, he would just have to show Ben that he was looking out for him and that he was just having some fun with him. Max was right though.

But then Lewis made a comment about calling there homes and he got it! Getting his two cheerful companions to meet the group here would make anyone feel better! "Oh, I got two friends that might be able to find us! Me and those two have traveled over dozens of worlds and maybe they could hunt this one down. Even if they can't, they would still like to know that such nice and friendly people are here with me." Sora meant that with all of his heart. Well, he always meant that with all of his heart but still.

Sora told Louie, "Louie, we are the good guys here and heroes learn to forgive. If he went on such a big rant then he must have been stressed out over something. You wanting to protect your friends is a strong goal but you can't be angry at everyone that ever does something bad against them. You will never make new allies if you do that and that's the path of a weak heart." Sora put his hand on the flaming skeletons shoulder and gave him a nod.

Abel - Streets - The Floodgates Are Open

Welp, that was it. Abel stopped in his tracks, motionless for a few seconds. Then without warning, he just started to cry. He wiped tears from his face as Rixis came out to comfort him again, not caring about being seen at this point; the only one who could see them anyway was Rex, and he looked like a pretty chill dude. Despite Abel's protests, he kept nuzzling and purring in a vain attempt to make him feel better.

(holds pool noodle threateningly) Do you want to know what we do to artists?

Ara Haan (Streets) - New Babysitter

I was expecting Jack to start looking for Eric. I was expecting all of us to start looking around for Eric. But... I wasn't expecting to be left in charge of the children. I didn't dislike them or anything, in fact I thought they were really nice; but I wasn't entirely confident in my ability to look after them. What if one of them got lost? What if all of them got lost? It could take me days to find them again!

Still, I couldn't just say no.

"You go," I told him with a nod. "I'll keep them out of trouble."

Or at least I'd try.

The library

Gwen smirked a little at the mention of the robot lobster. "First robot squids and now robot lobsters? What's with you and robot sea life?" she asked him. Ben shrugged. Max's expression lightened.

"Hm, apology accepted," Max told them. At that moment, Louie and Lewis broke out into an argument and Gwen and Max both winced. Max's expression hardened again. "All right, both of you, that's enough!" Max stated sharply. "I know both of you are stressed from this, and I don't know the full story, but you need to stop squabbling like children and focus on the task at hand!" Max crossed his arms. "You all are trying to get out of here, aren't you? Well you should be working together to do that and not bickering! Ben, you said you're the leader of this team? As a leader you need to step up and keep people from breaking out into fights like this, and stop incidents like this from coming to a head. Just remember, don't let the power get to your head. With great power comes..."

He sighed. "I'm rambling. I'm worried about you, Ben, and I trust you'll make a good leader someday. I gotta get on saving the world from what Ghostfreak is gonna do. You said Vicktor is at NASA?" he asked. Ben nodded. "Stay safe, Ben," Max finished. "Contact us again whenever you can. We'll get you out of there, just you wait. We love you so much. Bye, Ben."

"Good luck, you little dweeb," Gwen told him. "We'll be here for you if you need anything." With that, the communication ended, and the communicator vanished as soon as he hung up. Ben looked at where the communicator was, trying to hold back some tears. He nodded gently. "Talk to you later... grandpa." He put his arms around himself, moving to one of the chairs and sitting down on it, still fighting back more tears.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

Library ~ Good Company; Bad Influence

Fate's giggles died down as Papyrus's attention turned back to her. As she listened, she once again frowned. Once Papyrus finished speaking, she let out a sigh.

"Well, I'll try.... It seems really difficult when there's not much there to believe in, though...."

Then Sans and Caro started making bad puns. Arf let out a massive groan and cradled her forehead with her hand, and then a look of sympathy in Papyrus's direction.

"Please don't tell me this is what passes for humor around here...."

Fate, on the other hand, just gave Sans and Caro a confused look as if she didn't quite get it. Then, as she thought about it a little more, a look of realization crossed her face.

"So...can these 'puns' caro a joke? Because they're not sans humor." She tilted her head to one side again. "...Am I doing it right?"

"ARGH!" Arf then buried her face in both her hands, "Not you too!"

Library - this is the best

Sans immediately turned around to look at Fate, staring at her in surprise that was not very visible due to his mask.

"ok, you're totally my new little sister now," he said, his tone of voice indicating that he was quite pleased with this turn of events, "that was pretty good, you should have more fate in yourself."

Hearing the puns coming out from both Caro and Fate, plus another one coming from Sans, made Papyrus slam his hands on the table as he raised his head, looking at Sans with complete disappointment and disgust.

"SANS!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THESE CHILDREN?!?!?!"

Sans turned to Papyrus again, one couldn't help but feel the smile on his mask was very appropriate at this moment.

"if you don't like it, then why are you smiling?

"URGH!" Papyrus groaned, then slightly calming himself down, looking defeated and crossing his arms. "WELL, I SUPPOSE IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY..." he said as he began to come to terms with everything. "WHAT A HORRIBLE FATE, HAVING YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR CORRUPTED BY TERRIBLE PUNS"

"a horrible fate, bro?" Sans asked, in a tone that was almost taunting him.

Papyrus' eyes went wide as it dawned on him what he had just done. He had gone completely still, almost as if frozen or like the call had glitched up.

Seiga, The Library, Naaaah "I'm afraid the person who runs this city is a bit of a communist..." wait, mysterious fantasy world, uhh "...that is, someone who hates the idea of money. There's nothing to barter with here. We all just scrounge for whatever supplies we need or come groveling at the feet of our lovely librarian, Ms. Tairee, for whatever we can't find ourselves," Seiga said, not giving said Tairee so much as a glance.

"But anyway, I don't think I'll be needing an assassin just yet. Nobody seems to hate me in particular just yet here, so I plan on just cruising out my sentence here as a passive observer. If you're in need of gold for some reason, I'm sure I could transmute some for you, but really. This is a world of immortals, from all across existence, and I think you shouldn't worry too much about what goes on. Santa costume, or no."

Eve nodded at Miss Tairee.

"To Sven Vollifed, please. Video call would be preferable."

Library

Louie scowled at Lewis as he went on, but before he could say anything Max got on their case over the call. "But-" Louie tried to start, but Max had hung up. Louie groaned in frustration. "He's not part of our group!" the pokemon trainer finished his thought anyway, towards nobody in particular. Then he looked back at Lewis, still angry.

"I'm not afraid of you, and I'm not backing down. If you mess with my friends, I'll make you regret it. So if you want this to drop, then just don't mess with my friends" Louie told the ghost, pointing a finger towards his skull head. Then he stomped off to go see how Ben was doing.

Meanwhile, Miss Tairee 4 glanced down at Calvin. "Certainly, boy" Miss Tairee 4 said, smiling gently and then tapping on her holographic screen for a bit. "It looks like a phone call should be fine. Here you are" the librarian noted, and with a blur a simple mobile phone that only had one button appeared in front of Calvin.

"Just press the button to start the call" Miss Tairee 4 instructed him, leaving out the rest to keep the explanation to Calvin simple.

At the central desks, Miss Tairee 1 gave Eve a simple nod and typed on her computer for a few moments. "Ah yes, that will be rather simple" Miss Tairee 1 said, and after a few more taps, another one of the video tablets appeared in front of Eve with a blur. "You heard my explanation for the one I gave to Ben, yes? I could remind you if you need" the librarian said, in an honest, intended to help tone, not patronizing.

Elsewhere in the library, something else was starting. Seirwuosuhr has started her message home, to her mother of course, using a magic mirror; after a touching reunion and some reassurances, her mother asked her a few things. After a bit, upon her mother's request, Seirwuosuhr passed the magic mirror to Miss Tairee 2; once her mother got done with the obvious questions to her...

"This is about me, isn't it?" Seirwuosuhr's mother asked harshly.

"Excuse me?" Miss Tairee 2 said, genuinely confused.

"You figured out who I am, and you've taken my daughter as some twisted punishment!" Seirwuosuhr's mom stated accusingly.

"Um, no miss, she was chosen at random, just like I said" Miss Tairee 2 told her, still sounding a bit confused at this new line of conversation.

"You liar!" Seirwuosuhr's mom barked, starting to sound paranoid and raving. "You think you'll get away with this?! Because I've lost my powers and become an innkeeper?! Mark my words human, I've lived hundreds of years longer than you; I'll get my daughter back! And if you so much as put a scratch on her, I'll make you wish you were never born!" she went on, to which Miss Tairee 2 just raised her eyebrows slightly and was left momentarily speechless.

Streets — Everyone's an orphan here^note inb4 "Not my character!"

Abel didn't even answer back and started crying. Rex was at loss of words given his strange attitude but he started to connect the dots. Abel had tried to steal food with the help of his magical pet, which seemed like something a hobo would do.

Oh! No wonder he reacted so badly when Rex mentioned a family.

"H-hey man, I'm sorry. I... I didn't mean to upset you"

Maybe opening up was the answer.

"Look, I know what it feels like—being alone" he approached Abel and sit down near him "I never got to meet my family either"

Library - I think we broke him ...

Unfortunately, it seemed that Fate's mood hadn't gotten any more improved by Papyrus' speech to her. And the message seemed to have stuck only a bit. Oh well ... That was to be expected, she supposed. There were some very deep issues the poor girl had very recently been inflicted with. A few speechs, no matter how heartfelt, were not going to solve it. It would take a lot of time and help. They were a bit short on the former, so they would have to do as much as they could with the latter ...

Arf reacted pretty like Papyrus to their puns. Fate however, despite seeming confused by them at first, managed to get off not one, but two on the first try, using her and Sans' names for it. The skeleton was of course quite impressed and happy with it.

She giggled quite a bit at it , then readjusted herself on the seat and leaned a bit outwards so she was facing Fate a bit more directly. Smiling warmly, she nodded and said, "Yeah, that was a nice start at it, yes."

Papyrus then reacted as she had predicted to her and now also Fate getting their sense of humor "corrupted" by Sans. It all spiraled down from there, with him accidently making a pun himself and after realizing, he froze in place completely. In another situation, she might have considered it to be an issue with the transmission, but it was pretty clear that in this case it was the reaction of someone who had realized that they had done something they considered horrible.

Re-seating herself to face the screen more directly again, she now had a bit of a concerned look, feeling a bit bad for kinda having contributed to a not so nice situation. She then spoke, "OK, OK, we'll all stop it for now, alright? It is not so fun when it makes someone that uncomfortable ..."

Streets - In transit

"Well, last time they had all sorts of food. Like... I'm pretty sure I saw they had chicken and fish, and mashed potatoes and salad and stuff. It was pretty hard to keep track of it all, mostly I remember this girl we were with at the time insisting that crab omelettes were the best food ever invented. ...Never got to actually try it though." Curly gave a shrug as that thought trailed off "What's your favorite food?"

Aside from the conversation, her attention was mostly on the appearance of the holiday themed city itself as she looked for the buffet or some other appropriate place that might appear first. Jack's new appearance practically blended into the crowd of interesting but not especially recognizable changes from the day as they walked by him and his little group.

Library

"His name's Squanchy," added Rick. "There are like *urp* sixty thousand other m-members of his species with the same name, thought I'd try to narrow it down for you."

Library ~ Pun Hell

"No, don't encourage her!" Arf cried, "I'm trying to be a good influence here, and you're making it difficult for me!"

Fate turned to Arf with a frown. "...Is it a problem for you, Arf?"

Arf sighed and shook her head. "Well, if it's making you happy, then I suppose it's not that bad. But please, have some mercy!"

At that point, Fate noticed Papyrus's reaction to his own accidental pun. She looked at him with a mixture of concern and confusion.

"It looks like the tablet stopped working...."

"No, I think he just realized what he just said," Arf commented. She turned to Caro with a frown, "I think he just might be overacting, but yes. Please do stop."

Abel - Streets - I Really Hope You Know What You're Doing

Abel didn't respond to Rex, but he did sit down next to him and started crying even harder. He wiped his cheek with his sleeve as Rixis continued to act as a pet, rubbing against Abel's neck. He quickly gave Rex a look that seemed to say hurry up and do something i can't do this forever then continued with his job.

Lewis - Library - Fuck you Louie, again

I leaned awkwardly away from the touch. "Uh, thanks? I can speak for myself, dude."

Drawing attention to the triviality of this argument was Max scolding us for arguing just before finally hanging up, as if I wanted to keep this going longer than I had to. I didn't really have a reply to that other than to just shrug and roll my eyes.

And then the call ended, and Louie went right back to bitching before storming off.

"I wasn't going to do anything, you ass, and I'm not going to!" I shouted in his general direction. "Just stop being an asshole, god!"

I turned to face Ben, throwing my hands up in exasperation as I asked, "Jesus, is he always like—?"

Where'd he go.

After a couple seconds I realized he'd moved to a chair some paces away and begun hugging himself. Not the most reassuring body language, that. I realized the irate trainer must have noticed before I did and felt slightly like a bit of an ass myself.

It'd probably piss said trainer off even more for me to go up to Ben and try and comfort him like I automatically got up to do, but what made you think I cared what that guy thought.

I took a seat by Ben, noticing that he looked even more out of it at this distance, and ignoring Louie. "Hey, Ben?" I cooed at him. "You need anything? It's alright. We're here for you..."

The library

Ben sniffled a little bit. "I'm fine," Ben told them. "I just... miss Grandpa and Gwen. They're working so hard to try and rescue me, they've been doing that for two weeks, they haven't given up. That's really awesome of them. I just wanna go back and give Grandpa a big old hug."

Ben managed to compose himself, sighing and wiping his eyes. He then looked up at Lewis. "So uh, did you want to talk about that thing?" he asked Lewis. "We can go upstairs if you want. I know you said you wanted to speak in private."

Library - signing off

"don't worry about it, sis, he's just being extra," said Sans.

Papyrus then cleared his throat again, looking less than pleased with his own accidental pun. "DO NOT CONCERN YOURSELF, LITTLE SISTER. MERE BAD JOKES AREN'T ENOUGH TO MAKE THE GREAT PAPYRUS UNCOMFORTABLE. AS LONG AS YOU'RE HAPPY, I'M HAPPY AS WELL!" He said, his disatisfaction vanishing as he gave Caro a big smile.

"well... guess it's time to end this call, i'll talk to you later, bro," said Sans.

"WAIT, SANS! WHEN ARE YOU COMING BACK?" Papyrus asked, now sounding concerned, "THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME WITHOUT YOU AROUND. EVERYBODY REALLY MISSES YOU AND THEY'RE ALL VERY CONCERNED. I KNOW YOU LIKE TO DISAPPEAR OUT OF NOWHERE, BUT NEVER FOR THIS LONG!"

Sans paused for a bit, just to take it all in as he was still not quite used with the idea that everyone else was also alive. He then took off the pumpkin mask again to let Papyrus look at his face, which looked very at peace.

"i miss you all too. i should be coming back in at most 15 days, ok? don't worry about me either, i have good company," He said, trying to be as reassuring as he could.

"YES, I CAN SEE THAT..." He then glanced at Caro and then at Fate, Arf being unfortunately out of frame, "PLEASE TAKE CARE OF MY BROTHER WHILE HE DOESN'T COME BACK. SANS CAN BE A HANDFUL SOMETIMES, AND HE CAN TAKE A WHILE TO MOTIVATE HIMSELF; BUT HE'S VERY HARDWORKING WHEN GETS INTO IT AND HE'S A VERY GOOD FRIEND TO HAVE!"

"heh, thanks bro. see ya."

"I WILL MAKE SURE TO TELL EVERYONE THAT YOU'RE ALRIGHT! UNTIL NEXT TIME!" Papyrus waved at them.

After everyone got to say the proper goodbyes, Sans ended the call and the tablet immediately vanished from his hands. He still stared at the spot where the tablet was, not doing any other movement other than closing the hand that was holding the tablet. Before taking a deep breath and looking at Caro.

"thanks caro, this might not have happened without your help," he told her, then hugging her from the side for a brief moment.

He then looked at Fate. Overall the whole experience was very positive, but he wasn't expecting Papyrus to solve everything in just one conversation, they would need to pick up from where he left off. It sure felt like the job was going to be a lot easier now at the very least.

"so, you feelin' better?" He asked Fate, his tone was gentle and his expression showed some clear happiness, even if it wasn't all that pronounced.
