Entering the Library, Forrest Gump'

It took a while, but I finally got my suit cleaned. Waitin' for it to get finished took like forever. I remembered that Rex was headin' to a library, and so I explored the city until I entered the library.

While I was walkin' there, I listened to this big announcement. The two things I remembered from that was that everyone was allowed to talk to each other, and that someone named Rex accepted a big challenge for the city. He must be brave if he could do that.

Everyone was busy talkin' to each other, though. I looked around 'till I spotted a librariannote . “Excuse me, ma'am. Can I ask you sometthin'?”

Library - Repercussions

Sans gave Rex advice on how surviving the aftermath of his decision. Thankfully, at least he had been smart enough to make the decision in such a way that would minimize danger to himself at least for now.

Unfortunately, he had no idea of what they would be facing beyond what anyone else already knew. In that case, this indeed was starting to sound really reckless ..

"Seriously? This could be really bad ... What if he decides to send a multiple day long version of something more survival-based, like yesterday or that other filled with undead creatures and such?" she asked, somewhat exasperately.

Talk then turned to the scoreboard which apparently had shifted really quickly. Ben was noticably gone and Rex was still on, but he apparently had shifted from second to third in the last few moments, while Lucas had taken his place.

"Lucas? He should be OK. I don't know exactly what he would wish for, but it would probably would something to help to people. He must really want it if he is still striving for it at this juncture. It is probably rather late already. The finals are likely not too far off now ..."

Then there was the matter of the person who had been previously in third place. Eve seemed to really not want them to stand a chance. And though they had been knocked off the board for now, unless they had lost, things could still change rather quickly.

"So ... Just what is wrong with that person who was in third just before? Would they probably wish for something bad or something?" she then asked.

Cole had remained still for several minutes, trying to get his bearings. Whatever had just happened to him, it was clear that it had left some sort of mark, as he staggered a bit when he finally tried to gather himself to his feet.

First things first, he carefully worked the amulet off the rabbit's neck and back around his own. He didn't know what might be happening out there now, but after that initial blast of emotions, he didn't want anything else to do with whatever could come next. He'd been on battlefields that had hurt less than...whatever had just happened here. At least in battle, he figured, people went in prepared for pain.

He should find somewhere to go to ground. He glanced up at the library beside him before dismissing it out of hand. That building had never been safe before and he didn't see any reason to think it would be now.

Cole just started walking, away, away from the building and any of the people in it, without any idea in mind of where to go next. He could have used his powers, normally, to find anyone he wanted...Sans or Caro, Lily, maybe Jack or Lewis, but...no. He couldn't risk that, not now. He just...couldn't.

He walked as long as he could manage, enough to get away from the library, at least, before he realized he still didn't feel quite steady. He felt wrung out and exhausted and like he'd gone through a very long, hard, protracted battle, which he didn't understand at all. He hadn't really done anything today, had he? Except accidentally set off Ben...he had done that. And look what had happened.

He grimaced, trying to shake off sickly-feeling memories that tried to come to the surface...things he understood but absolutely did not want to. No, no he didn't...he couldn't.

Best to get off the streets. Streets could be dangerous if...things started to happen. Somewhere inside, somewhere that he could be hidden, at least for a moment, could make all the difference in being able to fight back and being brutalized.

There was a rather large building beside him, with a smell he couldn't quite place that seemed to be coming from the doors. It was...not unpleasant, but it was very, very unfamiliar. Maybe it was worth investigating as far as somewhere to hole himself up.

Cole moved to the front door, carefully opening it, nose wrinkling a bit more as the smell grew stronger, before stepping inside, looking around with wide eyes at the vastly unfamiliar surroundings. He would never get used to how shiny and smooth things could be in this place. "...I...I, h-hello...? Is...anyone living here?"

Library - that's one issue down

Thankfully Rex was smart enough to realize the library was the best place to stay in, at least that meant he wouldn't do any more dumb things for now. Not only that, but he then pointed out the fact the scoreboard had changed and that now someone named Lucas was in second. Was that the kid that was with Caro yesterday? Well, she seemed to trust him so no point in worrying.

He noticed that Ben seemed to go inside and then turn back, well, he wasn't gonna be dealing with that now. Cao soon asked what was the deal with the guy that was in third place before all this. It all seemed kinda familiar to Sans but he couldn't quite pinpoint what.

"that name was familiar somehow..." he said, tapping his chin as he tried to remember, until something finally clicked, "oh, isn't that the guy that got kicked out of the non-human group for shooting an innocent human kid?"

Library, no rest for the wicked

There wasn't much information on the king near the back of the book where Curly was checking, but there was a few notes about the intended end of the campaign. All the different non-human races the players were meant to go after would be either wiped out to the point of only having rare stragglers left, or enslaved and put to work; the kingdom is safe from all internal threats and prospers from being able to spread settlements and acquire resources from areas that were previously under the control of or constantly threatened by these other races. One odd note mentioned that if Silanea survived the destruction of the lamia village, she would disappear without a trace a few years later. Not much was mentioned about other countries, only a brief note on mercenaries that could have been hired by the party from a neighboring country going back home at the end.

The Fanboys were, alas, a bit distracted with everything else going on in the lobby, and weren't really checking through the books themselves at the moment.

Meanwhile, Miss Tairee made no response to Rex other than just glancing up at him for a moment before lowering her gaze again. She didn't respond to Ben's second announcement on the radio either, besides glancing at it. Only when Forrest approached and asked his question did she look up at him. "What is it sir?" Miss Tairee responded simply, sounding a little somber.

The Annas didn't say much to him either, though it was clear from their expressions that they were starting to have some amount of doubt about sticking with him. When Lo Wang suddenly spoke to them, they were just a little surprised and looked at him. "Well, um... We..." Anna-Rose stammered, very unsure of what to say.

"We'd rather not talk about it" Anna-Maria supplied, since that was both true and a seemingly easy out for the conversation.

Thomas and Louie had followed Ben, but Thomas had stopped just outside the doors, looking rather worried. Louie seemed to notice just inside the doors and looked back. "Hey, Thomas, come on" Louie said, motioning for Thomas to follow. When Thomas didn't budge, he asked, "what's the big deal?"

"Um... We just got done insulting the guy, and now we're just gonna walk right into his library?" Thomas pointed out.

Louie looked around and then shrugged his arms. "Nothing's happened yet" Louie pointed out, but Thomas didn't look convinced.

Anyone who was just outside or was looking outside in one direction might notice two figures coming around a corner and marching quickly towards the library: Lieutenant Wells and Samson. "REX!" Wells yelled out in that stern tone, muffled by the walls of the library.

Stadium

"Fucking really, again!?" Jeff yelled out in annoyance before Stinkfly took over the mic again and made his second speech.

...

A bit after that, Adam's voice got on the channel and loudspeakers. "Well uh, I can't say I have much business opposing either a god or a demon, but there is one part of what he was saying I can get behind. It doesn't really do us any good to be at each others' throats, though I can understand being rightfully upset at that Rex guy, and... Huh, some people are still competing" Adam's voice said, the last part coming as the bright, red light appeared above Lucas and Lewis like usual.

The crowd overall was still not looking too happy between Stinkfly's second speech or that statement, and the Grinch's tossing of stuffed animals was mainly just confusing those that they landed on or near.

"I've gotta admit to being a little lost here, Adam; and that smelly guy barging in here repeatedly isn't helping. Would you care to explain it?" Jeff's voice said.

"So you remember yesterday how we got murdered by the Texas chainsaw guy? And how much that sucked? Yeah that was one of those 'challenges'; and from what I've been told, aside from like, the Mickey Mouse and the beach volleyball I suppose, all of the challenges have been super dangerous and have put a lot of people in danger or worse. So this guy, Rex, made an agreement that we'd get an extra challenge on top of those that lasts for multiple days, and he did this after only asking like, a few of his close friends I guess. Which could put us all in danger and he didn't even like, I dunno, cast a vote or something around the city first" Adam's voice explained at length.

"Wow, that's like... Seriously, what the fuck dude?" Jeff's voice commented.

Radio channels summary

Anyone currently listening to the NHA's or militia's channels would note that there was some hubbub with trying to find Silanea. Tuudol was apparently trying to help the militia in getting the NHA people at the stadium to not turn into a complete riot, but there was no sign of Silanea and he was worried he wouldn't be able to get them under control without her.

The Bucket O' Sushi, speaking of

After the announcement around the city, and shortly after Arf went back into the kitchens, someone was wandering by and seemed to note something about the restaurant, and then noted Fate inside of it. Fate probably would not have noticed at first, but then would when the door was pushed open and Silanea slowly slithered in. She looked deep in thought, and still depressed, though not with any hostility towards Fate.

"Excuse me..." Silanea muttered, and seemed to struggle for the next words until she turned her gaze down and stopped trying to look at Fate directly. "... I just, wanted to ask you, if you don't mind... What was your wish?" the lamia continued somberly.

Hospital

There was clip clopping footsteps of heels against hard floor down the hall to Cole's side, and then a slightly short woman with a brown skin tone in a clean, white coat came around the corner. "This is the hospital sir" Martha answered him simply, her tone mildly friendly as she walked up to him. "Did you need some help?" she asked.

Ara Haan (Library) - Suddenly, Children

It was starting to get difficult to handle so many things at once. Between Lewis' gift, the two stuffed animals, and the much heavier book I'd just received, and with my spear on my back, it was becoming harder to hold everything. My arms were starting to feel a little bit tired. Although with all that, I was finally prepared to get going, so I started to make my way out. However, I felt someone bump into me, and I turned around to find the boy from earlier. He greeted me and introduced himself, and stated that he'd also been part of the library fight. Funny, I didn't really remember him... then again, I hadn't been fully paying attention back then, so I didn't remember most of the people who were there.

Still, I had to introduce myself properly.

"Ah, my name... oh, wait a moment please," I asked him while I put all my things on a nearby table. "There. My name is Ara Haan; pleased to meet you, Ben. So you're really the leader of the knights here? You look so... young. I-I don't mean it in a bad way or anything, just... I think it's very impressive."

Cole blinked a little owlishly at the woman for a moment, hugging the bunny toy a little tighter, before it seemed to click in his head exactly what she had said. "O-oh. Hospital...? I didn't...I hadn't seen it. I'm...I'm glad it's finally here...d-does..."

He grimaced, rubbing at his head a bit, apparently still nursing a bit of a headache, before looking at her again, though still. "I...everything got very loud and it's...harder to...I'm...I-I think...I was trying to find somewhere to hide before the war starts again...the library isn't safe a-and...I can't look for my friends...I-I'm sorry...I-I can leave if...if you don't want me in the way..."

"Um-" Morty's next words caught and died in his throat for a few moments before hesitantly nodding. "Okay. Sure. I guess." He pulled out the crumpled and rather torn shopping list from out o his pocket and squinted at Lily, taking note of Abel off in the corner staring bemusedly at him.

"Hey - uh - you - you gave my grandpa - Rick - y-you gave Rick the, the, invisibility machine, right?" he asked. "D-d-do you know why he might want, uh..." Morty stared down at the list and fumbled for something, "... platinum... dioxide? Or, uh, w-where I might find it?"

Ben smiled at Ara. "You really think it's that impressive?" he asked her. "Thanks. No one really says that about me or the Knights," he admitted. "Most people look at me and think I'm too young or that I should be trying to be a kid instead of being a hero." Ben gestured towards his friends behind him. "This is Louie, This is Sora..." He gestured out to the door of the library towards Thomas. "And this is..." He winced when he saw exactly who was stepping up, the members of the militia.

"Lieutenant Wells?!" Ben stated, confused. He heard them shouting for Rex. Ben stood there, looking conflicted. He glanced at Louie and Sora, then at Ara, worriedly.

Rex kept underestimating those animatronics.

"They're faster than they look."

Lucas had taken second. That was good. She remembered Lucas from the fight on Day 12. He was shy and reliable. And Rega was no longer on the leaderboard. That was even better. Caro asked why it was so important to her that he didn't get a chance at the wish, and the skeleton said something about him shooting an innocent human child.

"Me. He shot me. A lot. It hurt."

She didn't die, but it wasn't the first time she had been shot.

"Considering how he had been talking, he would probably have wished for the death of all humans. Which would be bad."

Abel - Arts N Crafts Store - Uh, Rude

The kid ignored him and walked right up to the monster anyway, which made him either very brave or very stupid. Abel was willing to guess it was the latter. And, surprisingly enough, the thing was capable of speech, but just barely. Listening to it talk made Abel want to cut his own ears off. He was going to try and pull Morty back again, but all of a sudden he couldn't think anymore. A voice he'd never heard before had filled his head, blocking out all of his thoughts. He didn't understand a single thing about what she was saying, but he could think about it later. Once it was over, he held his hand to his forehead and winced as a headache started coming on. Instead of saving Morty from this abomination (which was awfully nice, all things considered) he went stepped back to sulk in a corner and tend to his own problems.

Entering the Library/The Library
Miss Tairee did look very down at the moment. Sora would try to cheer her up but Ben seemed pretty sure that she should be left alone. "Ok Ben. You are the boss after all." and then Ben turned around after looking in a direction. I looked in that direction and saw that same short skeleton again and Rex, who Sora recognized from Miss Tairee's announcement. Ah, must not want to get tangled up with Rex right now. While Sora wouldn't mind getting to meet him, he didn't want to leave Ben just yet. So, he followed Ben......straight into a conversation with Ara, who kind of remained him of Mulan, at least appearance wise

Welp, time to meet someone new! "Nice to meet you Ara Haan! I'm Sora! And don't let his age trick you! He has the heart of a hero and that's something that move's past age." And then Sora noticed Louie's and Thomas's situation. He made a comment to Thomas, "Hey, it's going to be ok. I mean, no lightning bolts have struck us yet and The Writer could do that right after are announcement. Soooooooooo, nothing to worry about!" Sora aimed a smile at Thomas to show that it's safe here and then at Ara, Ben, and Louie once Ben made a comment about Lieutenant Wells.

Arts n' Crafts- Too... Much... Thinking!

Lily's mind started to whir when Morty agreed to get a sweater. She remembered he picked up something purple to stuff, so she decided to go with that color. White seemed most appropriate for Rick; maybe she could even stitch it to look like a lab coat.

Her excitement was interrupted by Morty asking her about something she couldn't begin to pronounce. She stared at him blankly, which, given the sunglasses, was indistinguishable from her looking with interest. "No..." She responded, confusion evident (somewhat) in her voice.

I say that aloud too sometimes, just: "man, no life."

Ara Haan (Library) - A True Hero

"Well, that's good to know," I acknowledged with a nod to Sora's comment. "It's good to meet you all and... uhh..."

I glanced in the direction Ben was pointing, and noticed two people walking towards the library in a hurry. I could tell they were from the local militia, which actually alarmed me a little. And judging by the way they were yelling, even from such a distance to the building, I started to believe it'd be... at least an uncomfortable moment.

"I... have a bad feeling about this," I commented, unsure of whether or not I should step forward or back away. "Hang on, let me pick up my things real quick."

Once again, it was difficult to pick everything up, but starting with the stuffed animals was a bad idea, and I almost dropped them to the floor. So I decided to start with the book with the Haan family crest on it and go from there. It'd probably still take me a little while, but at least it was a little easier.

Curly was admittedly looking up the information in the module as much to try to help Silanea as she was trying to not contribute to the panic she kept hearing about on the radio. But still it was good to know, especially since it didn't seem like any more studying was going to happen with Wells barging toward the library and bellowing for Rex. And apparently Silanea was missing too.

"Looks like quiet time is over already" she said quietly, somewhat to the two fanboys and somewhat to herself as she turned to watch the proceedings for the moment

Asking a stupid question in the library, Forrest Gump

The librarian seemed purdy sad when she asked me to say whatever I was goin' to ask here. Was she alright?

“Well... I got your announcement. If it's not too personal, I was goin' to ask why Rex would accept that challenge. It wouldn't make sense if...”

Suddenly, I was interrupted by someone yellin' Rex's name. Seein' everyone was real concerned 'bout this, it must be real important. I'm guessin' someone's upset that Rex made the choice without askin' everyone what they thought 'bout the situation.

The Library — Fucking shit, the cavalry's here

Caro was understandably upset because Rex had accepted a challenge without knowing any of the details. He didn't think she had to worry so much about that.

"But tomorrow is a break day. Nothing can hurt us. It will be fine, trust me"

At least the wish crisis was over because Lucas sounded like the kind of guy that would go ahead with saving Sans' world. As much as he wanted to ignore it, that was something Rex was glad he didn't have to worry about.

"Great, now your world is back and you can talk with your friends back home. You are welcome, Sans"

While the library was a safe space of sorts, nothing could stop anyone from entering and it looked like certain military group was about to do just that. Suddenly, Curly's previous comment made much more sense.

"Oh, now I get it. Muttonchops and company are here" Rex said, pointing at Wells

Sure, there wasn't anything or anyone in the city that could get Rex out of the library without upsetting its self-proclaimed guardian. But honestly dealing with the militia wasn't in Rex's plans. He grabbed one of the walkie-talkies and used his nanite powers on his communicator to replicate the signal so he could access the militia's frequency.

"Uh, we just closed the library, guys. Better luck tomorrow"

Hospital

"Are you having a migraine?" Martha asked as she saw Cole rubbing his head and talking about it being hard to think. "You can stay here; just don't go into the pharmacy without permission. Dave's been getting rather irritated about that lately" she added to him.

Library

"... You'd have to ask him about that. I don't know why" Miss Tairee answered Forrest truthfully, and pointed over at Rex since he was standing in the same room.

Thomas still didn't look very convinced and remained waiting just outside.

Meanwhile, Rex's brilliant plan deterred Wells for all of no time whatsoever, and the soldier barged in through one of the revolving doors making a comment of, "the hell you did!" Wells then advanced on Rex, frowning sternly; Samson followed close, looking no less unhappy. They stopped a few paces away and made no move to grab Rex or draw a weapon; they knew better than that. "I'm gonna make this simple, Rex. For once do the smart thing, and do the right thing; come with us peacefully, now" Lieutenant Wells said, his tone harsh.

"... Who are these guys?" Louie muttered quietly to Ben.

At some point while everybody was preoccupied, Jackson had slipped out of the room and was nowhere to be seen.

Ben furrowed his eyebrows. "The Militia," Ben explained. "The military peacekeeper guys I was talking about yesterday. They try to keep the peace, at least, but all they end up doing is hurting people. They're why I founded the City Knights. To keep the peace without killing. Looks like they wanna arrest Rex." He sighed, crossing his arms and tilting his head slightly.

"And honestly I'm not sure what I should do here...." he muttered, looking even more conflicted. "Rex has been a giant jerk to me, and him giving us a bigger challenge without asking any of us was a major jerkface move from him, but on the other hand, I'm not sure the Militia are doing the right thing either by just trying to grab him and arrest him. If that's what they're even doing. The crowd kinda went nuts there after the announcement happened. A lot of the people in this City are probably gonna be out for blood..."

His hands went to his hips. "Not to mention he just wanted to find a way for us to contact people in the City, his goals were noble even though this deal was really messed up for him to do." Ben glanced at Ara, Louie, and Sora. "What do you guys think we should do?"

Library - Assessements

She supposed Rex was kinda right on that point, but the day after that break day and who knows many following, the consequences would come ... There was no point in keeping harping on that fact so she simply nodded and let it go for now.

He also seemed to be under the impression that Lucas would go with saving Sans' world and that she would surely go with as well, which she was leaning towards a bit more now, but still ... She didn't want to restart a mess like what had happened before, so she also let it go.

Things came to head when it was revealed that the person she asked about had been the one who had left Eve in that dreadful state two days ago ... And that they had such a deep seated hatred of humans that he would wish for them to wiped out, presumably in his own world ...

"I ... I remember how you ended up that day ... He did THAT to you? And suxh a wish ... Yeah ... That is all just unspeakably awful ... Let's hope he doesn't make some sort of surprise comeback then ... But if he does, I'll be sure to do all I can to stop him," she then said.

Wells then arrived, coming straight for Rex. It appeared as though he was getting arrested, even if it couldn't be done actually forcefully if he didn't cooperate, since Miss Tairee would have to stop it then. However, it might be better for his well-being in the long run if he went with them. At least he would be well protected from any sngry mobs trying to get back at him. On the other hand, that would only really apply starting from the day after tomorrow, since no one could get actually hurt beforehand. In anycase, she remembered the last time a group she had been in had tried to interfere in such business and how it had gone badly. For now, she simply settled for carefully watching the situation.

Bucket O' Sushi ~ Going On a Feels Trip

The announcers over the radio more or less confirmed what Fate thought the challenges were, even giving a particularly gruesome example. If this challenge Rex accepted was anything like that, then that complicated matters. However, until she saw it for herself there was no way of knowing how bad it would be.

She was more concerned with what she was reading now. The heroine, Nanoha Takamachi, was introducing herself, her family and friends, and life in general to the reader. She seemed just so happy with it all, with her only real issue being uncertain about what she wanted to do with her life.

Nanoha had so much. Fate, in contrast, had next to nothing. Mother used to be loving; she remembered that all too well. She wanted to believe that if she did as she was asked, she'd go back to being loving. As it was, however, she was nothing like Nanoha's. Beyond her, all Fate had was Arf. As she kept reading, she found herself growing quite jealous of what Nanoha had.

Caro had warned her about this being a tough read, but she hadn't expected it to get this hard this early on.

Engrossed as she was, she didn't notice the newcomer up until she actually spoke to her. In fact, she almost jumped a little upon being spoken to. Then she looked up to see the snake woman she'd beaten earlier. The last time Fate saw her, she was utterly crushed about losing. She still looked utterly crushed now.

On the other hand, at least she didn't seem to be angry over it? She just wanted to know what Fate was going to wish for. She didn't see why she shouldn't tell her. On the other hand, she wasn't sure if she'd like what she was about to hear.

"...Someone back home asked me to carry out a mission for them. I was hoping to wish for its completion, because otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it here," she explained, frowning, "By completing it, I hoped I was going to make them happy. But ultimately, I don't even know what it is they're trying to do."

She sighed. "I met someone else from my world, who told me what I was trying to do would just end badly for me. I'm trying to find out if there's any truth to it now." Then she looked down at the book she was reading. "I just don't know anymore."

She was silent for a few moments after that. "...I'm sorry."
