Inserting Hand Wave, Middle Layer

When Twilight asked, Plague Knight recounted what happened earlier to the pony's group. "I told this to Ben right, and hopefully he'll bring some more help."

Inside the library, top layer

"Hmph, fine, you get a shot, but chin up there lad! You'll be expected to act like a soldier!" Lieutenant Wells told Gon harshly, putting on an impeccable drill instructor like voice. "And take one of these" he added, handing Gon one of the wraithbone amulets.

Meanwhile, Sir Redring had followed Cassiopeia in a bit tentatively. "Well, that woman who just pulled the vanishing act was the librarian I believe... It looks like we'll have to wait until tomorrow before you can have the chance to speak with her" Sir Redring said, somewhat apologetically. He wandered over near the center desks and perked up a bit as he saw the stand of pamphlets. "Oh! It looks like the trip wasn't an entire waste however!" he added more triumphantly as he grabbed one and offered it to the witch.

"Now, it's getting late and this city changes at midnight every night... I'd suggest we simply remain here, as if we left it might be hard finding it again in the morning" Sir Redring mentioned as well.

Outside the pastry shop, middle layer

The two Ruckus members standing outside had not missed Plague Knight's watching, but hadn't really cared. As the new group arrived however, that got their attention, and the quarian crossed the street to approach them, his gun in hand but lowered. "You there, the blue one; you're Sadness, right?" the quarian asked in his raspy voice as he pointed to the emotion. "Your friend Mary is, in there" he told her, pointing back at the pastry shop.

"We'd love, for you to come and, join us" the quarian continued, then slowly turned his head about at the others, "but the offer, only extends, to you alone..."

Pea blinked owlishly, more astonished than alarmed at Cole's uncanny impersonation of herself, but then she smiled warmly. "There, there," she cooed, taking the opportunity to wrap Cole in a soft hug and pat his back, "You've nothing to apologize for. And you're welcome."

Meanwhile, the hoodie-clad skeleton uttered a mea culpa, and so she turned her attention to him. "No, I suppose I can't be, at that!" she giggled over the spirit's shoulder, "Nice to meet you too, Mister Sans!"

Just then, the self-declared robot from SEES approached and introduced herself at great length. "Indeed." The queen bobbed her head, nearly knocking Cole's hat off. "My name is Cassiopeia. I just arrived a short while ago. So you are a fully sentient automation, then, Miss Aigis? Fascinating! You say you are of the seventh generation? Are there many like yourself in your home universe, then?

Only when her octopus companion drew near did the witch finally unglue herself from the demoralized spirit, accepting the brochure with great interest. "Why, thank you, Sir Redring! This looks most promising. Yes, I had rather planned on staying the night in the library to begin with, honestly. Speaking of which, is anyone hungry? I happen to be a wizard, so I could conjure us up some dinner right quickly."

Cole seemed rather bewildered at the sudden attention from the others around him, looking to Aigis, offering her a faint bit of a smile, even as Cassiopeia was hugging him. "I...I am all right...just..."

He remained still, continuing to seem a little bit concerned, until the hugging was finally done, before getting quickly to his feet before anyone else could grab at him, hurrying over to the Tairee's desk and just jumping onto it, before sitting there, cross-legged, looking up at Sawyer a moment before lowering his head again, sighing softly. He seemed to have every intent on just staying put there until such time as something changed with their situation.

Saving the day with Morty, Middle layer

Morty looked back and forth as Rex zoomed off, obviously torn. "Wait!" he screamed, jogging after them. "I wanna come too! I, I, I, I know Mary! I can talk her down!"

There was a brief pause, puncutated by the sound of footsteps.

"I think!"

Rick groaned and rubbed his bald spot as he realized that his mental camouflauge had gone bolting off. "Morty, what are you getting us into?! You're -huff- you're *urp* you're my camouflauge, Morty! You- you can't just go, gaaaaaallivanting off trying to, to play hero here!"

The middle layer, near the pastry shop

At that moment, Rex and Ben arrived nearby the pastry shop. Upon seeing Plague Knight and the others, Ben heroically hopped off Rex's bike and looked up at both the quarian and the man in the pinstripe suit.

"Sorry, but it looks like this party's been cancelled!" Ben exclaimed. He readied the Omnitrix, striking a flashy pose as he prepared to select an alien. Before he did so, however, he looked back up at the two Ruckus members with a glare. "Let Mary go, losers! Or be prepared to face an alien butt-kicking!"

Library ~ Top Layer - that's a change

All of sudden the girl was acting a lot more casually, looked like she was in her "serious mode" and went back to what Sans could only assume was her normal behavior, it sure was a bit of a radical change especially because she was speaking normally now. She also mentioned food, but Sans doubted she could provide him with the type of food he could actually enjoy

"if it wasn't so late i would try to head out and see if i can get some food myself, i don't think you'll be able to produce the kind of food i can actually eat though." Sans shrugged. "so you're a wizard huh? what kind of magic can you do other than creating food?

"Why, if it isn't the little hero again" Jackson said with a sly grin, seeing as he was the one who greeted Ben inside the Ruckus factory the other day. "And Rex! We were so looking forward to meeting you earlier; why'd you ditch us like that?" he added, looking to Rex.

He chuckled for a moment after that. "Now, what is it you're saying? Let Mary go? She's not our prisoner, she can go any time she wants to" Jackson told them somewhat dismissively. "But if she doesn't want to... Well then, I'm gonna have to ask that you leave our friend alone" he continued, holding his pistol up near his head smugly.

The quarian turned his attention towards the arriving duo, and inside the shop Kelsey suddenly paused, placing the forgotten container of frosting back onto the counter as she glanced outside. Her eyes narrowed but her grin just got wider and crazed again.

Ben glared at Jackson. "I knew you were trouble when I saw you guys yesterday," he stated. "You aren't Mary's friend, and neither is that demon boss of yours! Old Feather Beak? Either way, we're not going anywhere! We're gonna rescue Mary, and you're not gonna stop us!" With that, Ben slammed his hand on the display of the watch. There was a flash of green light as Ben crystallized. When the light faded, Diamondhead stood in front of the two Ruckus members. Then, he rushed towards the door of the pastry shop.

Middle Layer — Outside the pastry shop — Payback time

There two members of the Ruckus which sort of surprised Rex since he expected both sisters to be alone but it was nothing Rex and Ben couldn't take care of. On top of that, Plague Knight and Twilight (plus Zelda and Sadness) were there. Their abilties could come in handy.

Ben jumped off Rex's bike and prepared to turn into an alien. The Ruckus members didn't open fire so Rex decided to try diplomacy for once.

One of them, a guy wearing a suit, mentioned that he wanted to meet Rex for quite some time now. That kind of creeped out Rex but, with infinite universes, telepaths were probably a common thing. The guy also wondered why the teen had left them back at the beginning of the day.

"I was just dealing with the mess that your boss and Mary created. So, if you would be so kind as to let us take her to the library, I may consider not punching you so hard"

Ben turned into the crystal golem and started fighting. Rex wasn't against giving the group what they had coming but his decision was too rash even for him. He didn't even have time for a little banter?

"Not wasting a second, huh?"

Runnin' down a dream, with Rick and Morty

"This doesn't even make sense, Morty!"

"What?"

"It doesn't make sense!' Rick explained as he ran after his grandson. "Why would *urp* why would a cyberpunk city have a pastry shop?! That runs *urp* it runs against the si-ser-the cyberpunk aesthetic! People aren't supposed to buy fruity little pastries in a-an overtechnologized dystopia! You're not committing to the bit!" he shouted angrily at the sky.

Morty sweated at both his grandfather's outburst and the imminent physical confrontation. It was probably not the brightest thing in the world, for him to go bolting in like this unarmed. Still, if worse came to worse, then at least he had his... friends to back him up.

That was a weird thought, and Morty had trouble believing that it came to him so easily. Having actual friends? Friends his own age who didn't send him on suicidal death-runs on a daily basis? Life in this place was starting to rub off on him.

"Wait!" he shouted as he approached the pastry shop- which had warped conveniently close thanks to the bizarre laws of space-time. Rex and Ben were already there, with Ben having turned into a big... rock... thing.

"I-" Morty stopped to catch his breath as Rick jogged after him, pulling out his trusty old laser pistol. "-I can, you know, I can talk her down. A few... I dunno, a f-few days ago, we chatted, and, uh, and I kinda promised her that maybe she could come back with us when, uh, t-this whole thing ends. You know?"

"You what? *urp* Morty, ferchrissakes, I'm a genius scientist, not some kind of, of *urp* interdimensional baby sitter! I don't have time to drag some lunatic... paint child around! You don't think I have my hands full with your idiot father already, huh?!"

"I'll talk with-"

"I swear, Morty, you little-" Rick grabbed some of his hair and looked like he was trying to rip it out.

"-you about this later, okay-" Morty tried to talk over his grandfather.

"-you'd better be pulling my metaphorical-"

"Just shut up and let me do this, okay, Rick?! It's the right thing to do!"

Rick rolled his eyes in response. "Oh, here we go. Go play hero again, Morty. Just like you did with the fart. Don't come crying to me when you get *urp* when you get stabbed to death!" Morty bit his lip and tried to hide the fact that his body was suddenly trembling with fear.

"Look..." he said as boldly as possible to the nearest Ruckus member note , trying to forestall a fight. "C-could... uh, .like, could I talk to her? You know? Cause, uh, there's uh, a deal we made, and, uh, you know-" he chuckled nervously- "I kinda want to remind her of that, b-but only if she stops, like, killin' people."

"Ground her, Morty," shouted Rick, unhelpfully. "Take away her ice cream and TV for a month."

Middle Layer - Outside Pastry Shop - NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO

Zelda's eyes got wider and wider as Plague Knight went on about what was going on before their arrival. Using blood as a cooking ingredient was disgusting, but that was not what she was worried about. No, the major revelation here was that Mary was with one of the Lord of Change's underlings. Furthermore, she was with the Lord of Change's underling willingly. What a being like that wanted with a little girl was beyond her, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to know.

Well, now they knew where Mary was. The problem now was getting her away from the Lord of Change and its underlings.

"...Well then, that really complicates things," she said once the apparent knight had finished, "If this is like anything that happened to Ben and Twilight, then it's probably possessing Mary too." She frowned heavily. "I think our best option is trying to convince Mary to part ways with the Lord of Change's group somehow. In a way that she'll understand what will happen if she stays with them, since it doesn't sound like she was convinced when you just straight told her that they were bad. And we have to do all of this without catching the Lord of Change's attention...."

As if to make things worse, they were then approached by someone who Zelda could only assume was another one of the Lord of Change's underlings. At least, that symbol he was displaying reminded her too much of the Chaos symbol she saw in that book for there to not be some kind of connection. Come to think of it, she was fairly certain she had seen this person earlier; wasn't he one of those vandals from earlier? That explained who was behind the chaos earlier.

The being's invitation to Sadness, however, gave her an idea. Sadness was probably the person Mary was closest to before all this nonsense happened. If Sadness were to go to Mary, she probably had the best shot at convincing her to get out of there. She didn't like the idea of leaving the emotion at the whims of the Lord of Change, but at this point it sounded like the best way of resolving the situation without having even more people die.

She didn't get the chance to suggest this to Sadness before Ben and Rex showed up and promptly proceeded to squander any hopes of ending this peacefully.

"What are you doing?!" she yelled out after the two of them, to what she expected to be no avail, "You're going to make things worse! STOP!"

Her rational mind was telling her to get out of there immediately. If a fight broke out, if she could convince Sadness and maybe Twilight to leave with her she was going to do exactly that. She didn't like just leaving the scene here to its fate, but she wasn't exactly going to do anything good by dying. Plus, she wasn't about to lose Sans's stuff again so soon after finding it.

Falling to Pieces, Middle Layer

"I think we better do what he says," Plague Knight quietly said to the others. Hopefully Sadness's presence would be enough to -

It was then Rex, Ben, and eventually Rick and Morty showed up. Ben was the more pressing concern as the boy was currently transformed and marching right towards the shop.

"Ben Ben BEN! STOP!" the knight said, standing in front of Diamondhead before he went any closer to the shop. "They only asked for Sadness to see Mary, no one else," he said to the boy, making emphasis on certain words. "I mean, you don't want to waste this chance for two friends to see each other again after so long, right? Besides, Mary would be more willing to see Sadness than us, and thus more willing to go with her, correct?"

Plague Knight was, again, subtly hinting to Ben to let Sadness go in, the emotion possibly having a better chance of convincing Mary to leave the Ruckus then just taking her.

Middle Layer — Outside the pastry shop — Temporary Truce

Ben's brash attitude made everyone try to stop him. Plague Knight and Zelda tried to explain that the Ruckus had invited Sadness to talk to her friend. She was a little kid (Well sort of, it's not like anyone here was normal. Except maybe that korean guy) but her abilites could probably make Mary reason or she could at least guilt trip her into surrendering.

Rex tried to calm down Ben. He was obviously pissed at the Ruckus but the teen could see this was worth a shot.

"Let Sadness do 'her thing', okay? We can always attack if things go south"

With the possibility of a fight breaking out, Rex wanted to make sure they were organized. he leaned over to Diamondhead and whispered.

"If they pull any tricks, Kelsey is mine"

Mary (Pastry Shop) - Making a Ruckus (Hey, I Get It Now!)

There was no need for anyone to really venture inside, for Mary herself came out of the pastry shop after, upon turning around to investigate what was making all that noise outside, she recognized some familiar faces just outside the window. Soon enough she jumped out of the entrance, clearly pleased and covered in so many things that she looked more like an abstract painting rather than like herself. And holding a spoon.

"Oh, you brought everyone!" she exclaimed joyously at Rex, with a genuine smile on her face. "Thanks, Rex! Now we can have an even bigger party!"

She was very pleased to see so many familiar people outside. Sadness, Morty, the big thing that was probably Ben, judging by the symbol it carried... even some people she hadn't really met yet.

"Come on in, come on in!" she invited them, clearly either failing to read the current situation, or simply not caring enough. "I'm sure there'll be enough cake for everybody! I actually made it myself with my new big sis!"

Middle Layer - Apartments - Finding a room, hopefully a decent one

Since her companions had joined, Caro then finally took a better look at her surroundings. In doing so, she immediately gor why Lune had a disguted expression. The building surely was rundown, with problems in the pumbling, leading into water dripping around them and also leaving a very unpleasant smell.

She quickly noticed the sign above a set of stairs leading upwards. Turning to her companions she said, " Yeah, I agree that these aren't exactly ... Ideal living arrangements, but it still beats being caught in whatver happens outside when the day ends. Hopefully, the situation is at least a little better uptairs, so let's go check it out."

She began to slowly climb the stairs. With how bad the conditions were and how lopsided the building looked, she didn't want to take any chances. Eventually they come up to a landing a few doors. " Oh yeah, that sign Lune read outside said that we might have to share a room , right?"

Kowloon Walled City Apartments, Middle Layer

As Karkat passed the various shops and factories in this apartment while following Lune, none of the rooms had a recupracoon in sight for no reason at all. They all had human beds in the back rooms, though. How crazy, right? These humans were completely uncivilized. If you had your way, maybe you can teach these humans a thing or two about proper rest.

Lune silently nodded to Caro as she followed her up the tall, tall flight of stairs. Caro had reminded her that they needed to bunk together. Lune scratched her chin in contemplation and nodded.

“Let’s cross our fingers and hope the room here is cleaner than the ones on the first floor.”

Lune closed her eyes in fear and nervously opened the door to their temporary place for the night. If it was infested with roaches and rats like that noodle-making factory, she would just call it quits. When she peeked at whatever was behind the door, she was surprised with what she found. The room was relatively pristine, with enough room for three people, surprisingly. The sheets for the beds were a little dusty, but at least, they were better than that sorry state of the ground floor.

All in all, this wasn't so bad. The night was nice and peaceful, and sure Sawyer was stuck up in her bubble and brooding, but other than that there were no hurts nearby for Cole to sense. All they had to do now was just wait until morning and OH GOD HE'S ENTERING THE LIBRARY COLE CAN FEEL HIM.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Wells looked at Gon with a raised eyebrow. "You 'use' it by just having it on you. It'll keep Ruckus' demon from getting in your head" Lieutenant Wells explained.

"So it will" Old Feather Beak said as he strolled into the lobby through one of the revolving doors.

"Bloody hell!" Lieutenant Wells yelled, reaching for his rifle. "Stop right there!" he bellowed out.

"Mind if I drop in?" Old feather Beak asked, raising his staff up. "It's almost midnight!" he yelled out, and slammed his staff down, sending out a shock wave. Everyone in the lobby was thrown off their feet, except technically and ironically Sawyer. And as they were about to or just as they hit the floor, suddenly everything stopped and their vision went blurry.

Pastry shop, middle layer

All three of the Ruckus members suddenly stopped for a moment, listening to something only they could hear. Kelsey suddenly moved to Mary's side and grabbed her hand. "Hold on sis!" Kelsey told her quickly. Outside the shop, the quarian suddenly turned his gaze back on Sadness and dived at the emotion, attempting to grab her.

"No time for this" Jackson said in the meanwhile, and suddenly aimed his pistol at Diamondhead. He didn't fire any rounds, but instead set off the flash once again. The light refracted and reflected off of Diamondhead, temporarily blinding everyone in the vicinity with a show of brilliant colors, including Jackson himself. "It's... Beautiful" he muttered, apparently not regretting that at all.

And then everything stopped and the colors started to blur.

Somewhere...

When Miss Tairee appeared, there was already the sound of a pen writing on paper greeting her.

"Sekreh, I thought you didn't like your name..."

"... It has its moments I suppose" Sekreh Tairee admitted after a slight pause. "Though very few" she muttered to herself, as the writing sound already began again.

"That day must have been pretty tiring for you. Why don't you rest and tell me when you're ready."

Sekreh sighed in slight relief and prepared to conjure herself a room to rest in. "That sounds like a great... Wait a minute, you're planning something, aren't you?" Sekreh asked, stopping her typing. There was a pause for a few moments, before the sound of a pen on paper returned.

"Here, why don't you see this part first?"

A piece of paper floated over to Sekreh, who grabbed it with an eyebrow raised. "But this is... You're accepting my request as the next challenge reward?" Sekreh said, seeming pleasantly surprised. Then she thought about it some more, and slowly the look turned to horror. "But right now she's with- and they'd take credit for-" she stammered, dropping the piece of paper and looking out, "DID YOU PLAN THIS?!" The writing sound came back.

"Of course not. You know me better than that. But I did plan on taking advantage of the situation once it arose."

"But you can't just- can't- no! No no NO NO NO NO NO!" Sekreh yelled, dropping to her knees and clutching at her hair. There was more writing of a pen on paper.

"Alright, now take that rest and tell me when you're ready."

Some amount of time passed. Sekreh didn't try keeping track of it. She just stared forward at nothing, not moving, occasionally crying or screaming out in anger. Finally, she shakily stood up, still staring forward blankly. "I'm..." Sekreh paused. Nothing responded yet. "... I'm as ready as I'll ever be... I think" she added. The writing sound came back.

"Then let's get started."

Sekreh blinked a few times. "Wait, what's the next day going to-" and then she was cut off as she vanished in a blur.

Day Eight, what is a man?

Inside the library, moments after midnight

There was some general surprised scrambling once the blurring had passed, but unfortunately everyone was finding that they had new bodies that they weren't used to. Everyone that was, except Old Feather Beak, who was now a large crow with blue colored feathers. "Ahh, just like two centuries ago" Old Feather Beak said, flapping his way over to the central desks with ease. "What's the matter?" he asked as he looked around at everyone, "not used to your body changing? It's old hat for me." With a heartless chuckle, he turned his head sideways to look at the plaques on the desk.

"Oooh, how interesting" Old Feather Beak squawked with a suspiciously gleeful attitude. He took off and started flapping out of the room slowly. "Don't worry about the daily challenge, Ruckus will handle it" he told them, and then started laughing evilly as he flew out of the library and into the dark night.

Inside the pastry shop, moments after midnight

The paw of a honey badger let go of Mary and stumbled slightly. "Well, this is new" Kelsey muttered as she looked down at herself, then glanced out the windows to the street, which was now empty; everyone outside had been shifted somewhere else during the day transition, it seemed. "Looks like it's just us two now" she said to Mary, looking to see what Mary had become.

Middle Layer...Or Not. Shiara stood, waiting for when Cassopeia would respond. Then the world..blurred, and she found herself somewhat...shorter. When she had first got here, she had been different. Maybe this was the same thing? Like when Roxim's new princess put on a ring from the treasure room (never a good idea since dragons tend to collect...odd things).

Hey guys, do I look...different?

Taking a step, she tripped and rolled forward, becoming aware that she suddenly had two more feet than she had before, and three more tails. Also, her sword was about the same height as her, lying on the ground. Moving slowly, she experimented with movement, getting the hang of it. In a new discovery, her bag was on a string around her neck, about the size of a coin purse.

Shiara is now a three-tailed Vulpix.

Meanwhile:

The was a large kerfuffle, and Nightwitch woke up. Then the world changed and she was taller. Taking a step, she lost her balance and tripped.

"Two feet? No tail? What is this?"

She hadn't realised that she had spoken aloud.

"My voice sounds different. Like my-fire speak."

She now appeared to be a girl of about 9 years old, with black hair and green cat eyes. She was dressed in flowing black robes, with a crooked witch hat perched precariously on her head. She was, in one word, adorable.

Her magic sense was wrong. Instead of her being able to smell magic, it was a tingling in her fingers. She looked around, looking at the others and moving around, getting the hang of her new body rather quickly.

Inside The Library

Sawyer, for better or worse, was there no longer. With or without the bubble, her presence was missing.

Balcony

But, as the law of balance dictates, one is given so one can be taken away.

At one of the balconies a new animal came to appear. It looked like a dark horse of massive size, but one disfigured by foul magic: it had two heads, one of which was but an open stump filled with eyes; and among four hooved legs there were a few more, deformed and sticking out of others like some nightmarish tree branches.

The horse put a blade of resplendent turqouise color on the ground, briefly wondering just why it doesn't have arms to hold it with... or why are the surroundings nothing like he remembered. His coming into sanity even as a deformed beast of the scourge was recent, so perhaps he was just stuck in a limbo of madness way longer than he previously assumed. Then again, the Hunter he combatted didn't look all that different to what he remembered.

"...this is truly curious..." Ludwig muttered to himself, a slight nicker in his voice as he picked his blade up from the ground. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world - having arms was something he didn't realize how much he enjoyed until now - but eventually the lumbering horse, easily twice as big as an ordinary steed, began moving to the ground and off the balcony.

Perhaps he just needed to look for anyone here and see what could they tell him, assuming they won't try to kill him right away. Hopefully it would not come to that.

Library - what just happened

All of sudden a bird thing, which Sans could only assume was the very demon causing everyone a lot of headaches, came in and attacked everyone and then his vision blurred out. Once he woke up again Sans would find himself on the ground and once he tried standing up he immediately noticed that the demon had turned into an actual bird. Looking at himself, Sans found himself standing on four legs and after taking a look at his paws he figured it all out.

"welp..." was all Sans had to say on the matter.

The demon bird then went to the plaques and seemed interested enough in the day's challenge to try to get his gang to clear it, before anything else could be said he flew away while saying the Ruckus would take care of the challenge, well, wasn't that just convenient?

Sans moved around a bit trying to get adjusted to his new body and then went to the librarian's desk, he was too small now to be able to read the plaques on the desk, so using his newfound abilities he tried leaping onto the desk, it took a couple of tries but he finally managed to do it. The challenge itself wasn't interesting, just another fight, the reward on the other hand...

"turning a painting into a real person? what kind of reward is this and who is gonna benefit from it?" he thought, then taking some time to think about it "well, it says that it was the librarian's request so this must be someone who she knows is a painting and has to be a girl. considering the boss obviously was paying attention to our conversation yesterday and the librarian used something called 'true vision' on mary before she would know if that girl..."

Sans stopped for a moment and then began chuckling while on the desk, the whole situation had just become even more difficult. Turns out this day was going to be pretty interesting after all.

"that bird wants to clear this challenge, if mary is a painting that wants to become human, making her wish come true would be a pretty great way to make her stay with the ruckus forever. whoever the boss is, he sure likes causing that lady grief.

The skeleton then looked outside, it didn't look like much time passed, but since they were now in different bodies, tha meant it was past midnight which also means whatever changes happened outside were done already. With all of that in mind, he jumped off the desk and decided to take a brief look outside to see what had changed.
