Trickster || Streets

When Hades laughed at his many sobriquets, the Trickster visibly bristled in response. Immediately his horns grew again, his stature increased... and the Trickster once again stood in his natural shape◊. This time, he remained in this form. "You would do wise not to mock me, Hades," he said, anger bubbling beneath his voice. "One does not want to have me for an enemy."

"...No, it is wiser to have me for an ally," he said, calmer this time, "I see we both have ample reason to resent those we pursue. I, too, have had my schemes thwarted, by the troublesome thief who does not know when to stay dead. Help me in getting rid of him, Hades, and I will lend you support when it comes to your... target. Have we a deal?"

Shadow Sae's gun slowed to an abrupt halt, signalling the need to reload. It didn't do as much as she'd have liked, but it'd gotten the red soldier and the greek strongman off of her back for a short while. She'd also clipped a couple others gathering, though no one had died either. Unfortunate. She barely responded to Louie insulting her, lowering her gun arm as Diamondhead and Two ran at her with a pair of blades. Shadow Sae tilted her head slightly, having not noticed Rean yet.

"All you have are insults, but no skill or strength to back it up," she said. "You only dare talk like that because you can't beat me!" Her Heat Riser was about to fade, so she decided to get one last strengthened attack out of it before then. As Diamondhead and Two got close enough to strike, she raised her blade in the air and focused. The sword glowed bright white, and then she slammed it into the ground as the other attacks hit her. "Megidola!" A strong burst of searing magic slammed into anyone within a few feet of Shadow Sae, like a shock-wave from an explosion. A few chunks of her armor were taken off, showing that she was wounded, but she didn't seem slowed down much. There was no longer a glow of red energy around her as the Heat Riser boosts wore off.

"Come now, don't give up yet!" she mocked the group.

Outside Library

"Thank you, I will treasure them and spoil them and explode things with them," Caboose said to Ms. Tairee, grabbing the strange grenades and completely disregarding any words of warning. He could at least figure out how to use them well, probably... well, to a level befitting Caboose, at least.

Taking his new toys, the red soldier ran back outside the library to rejoin the fight. It looked like Sae had a glowing sword, which was really neat, but it was nowhere as neat as Tucker's was. It also didn't stay glowing forever either, which was a definite point against it.

Now he took a krak grenade in his hand and tried to arm it with his teeth, only to remember that his helmet would make that impossible. Shrugging, he just used his hand. With all his strength, he hurled it at the shadow with reckless abandon. Unfortunately, what he had in power he lacked in dexterity. The bomb somehow sailed to his right instead of straight ahead due to a massively botched throw, and landed near a poor civilian. While the man was thankfully out of the direct blast range, some shrapnel launched by the blast still got his left leg. To his credit, the generic man managed to drag himself into the library for healing and safety from the fighting.

Looking at this with confusion, Caboose merely said "Not my fault, he made it hit him." No one was actually close enough to hear him, though.

"Try aiming better, Captain," Freckles suggested.

"Well we can't all be good at tossing like Donut," the idiot replied, giving a shrug as he pulled out the other grenade. He armed and threw it, this time actually landing in the general area of Sae. His throw was wild, and not really good for preventing friendly fire, but there was a shot at having her in the blast radius. And these were grenades made for cracking heavy armor, not soft targets. "OK then! Thank you for the encouraging words scary robot lady! I will not give up now because you told me not to!"

"I've been in wizard duels; I know how to fight" Jack said confidently, but then had to think. "A weapon? Wait, like some no-maj technology thing? Using uh, whaddya' call it, 'electricity'?" the wizard then asked, waving his hand a bit as he thought about it.

Miss Tairee watched Caboose run out and totally botch the first grenade throw, then she sighed and lifted up her glasses to pinch the bridge of her nose. "Oh, I wish I could refuse requests even to those who haven't broken the rules" Miss Tairee muttered to herself, then tapped a few buttons on the holographic screen. A copy of Miss Tairee appeared in a blur moments later, then a couple moments after that, there was a blur on the right forearm of the Miss Tairee copy, as the terran medic healing device appeared. Without bothering to wait for the request, she went ahead and healed up the injured man once he had crawled his way into the library.

The main Miss Tairee then wandered over to where Cole, Arcade, and Eve were getting up. "I can provide some learning textbooks, although in the meantime I might suggest something a bit more story focused you can read aloud for him? It might help both of you keep your attention away from... Everything else" Miss Tairee suggested to Arcade. "Also, would you like any breakfast?" the librarian then asked, though in a suggestive tone of voice.

Meanwhile outside, Louie called forth the castform, Nimbus. "Whatever!" Louie said towards Shadow Sae, in an unconvincing tone of trying to ignore her from there on. "Ben! I can have Nimbus use a weather move! What do you think would help most?! Sun, hail, or rain?!" the trainer then called out to the other City Knight, while also bringing out Swishee the pelipper and quickly instructing the pokemon to fend off a few more random nemeses with a surf attack.

Cole grimaced at Miss Tairee's reference to...whatever was going on outside, but at the option of something to be read to him, he perked up almost instantly. "Can we read Hank again? Arcade, Hank is a dog who protects his farm and his friend is scared but he always helps and they fight monsters even if sometimes they aren't really monsters they're just other animals or the weather..."

He contemplated that for a moment, then looked at Arcade again. "Did you ever know a cowdog like Hank? Weren't you from somewhere with dogs who protected people?"

Arcade had vague memories of someone reading stories to him when he was around Cole's age. He couldn't put his finger on who it was, he just knew that it made him feel safe, and happy.

As Cole made his request, Arcade just sort of stared at him, not quite sure what he was talking about, but not interested in vocalizing that. "If that's what you want to hear, sure, why not?" he replied.

Cole's question felt very out of left field, but he managed to keep from just staring in confusion. "Uh, no, I've never seen a... cow, dog? And I'm not sure where... oh, you're talking about the cyberdogs back with the Enclave? As far as I'm aware, there weren't any cows involved in the creation of those."

"In this context a cowdog is a regular dog with a certain profession" Miss Tairee said with a slight smile, tapping away on the holographic screen again. There was a blur soon enough as a small book appeared in front of Arcade and Cole. "Here, this is the next one after what we read before" the librarian suggested to them.

Eve | Library!| Work

Eve smiled down at Cole. "Sadly, yes," she replied, blinking. She perked up slightly at the idea of teaching Cole how to read. Everyone should know how to read. Reading was good. "If Arcade isn't, I am," she said, though she had her doubts about her ability to teach.

Listening to Come burble on and on about this dog who apparently protected animals against monsters, Eve smiled again, before something else Miss Tairee had said occurred to her. "Breakfast would be nice, thank you," she replied with a grateful nod. "Maybe some pancakes?" She moved to the side slightly, flipping over the couch with grace to land next to Cole and Arcade.

Creed | Battle | To Do Or Not To Do

Creed stayed, watching, for a little while longer, before the fight seemed to get too crowded. Time to move on, to see what other joys this place had to offer. The day was long, and he had plenty of time.

Two, Get Exploded, Vs. Shadow Sae

Ouch.

For a moment there was nothing but a searing light and a sensation of flying through the air as Two was thrown away by the force of buffed Megidola, bouncing a couple times off the ground and hitting the wall with a sickening crack and an anguished cry. Despite the grim sound, she wasn't in that bad a state; plus, for all it was worth, that got her out of range of Caboose's barrage.

Slowly, the bluenette picked herself up, panting. "I'm fine..." She wasn't, but she could have been much worse off. Nobody wanted the repeat of Day 19 where she got hit with a grenade point-blank. Shaking off the stiffness and finding that nothing was actually broken, she used the odd angle of her current position to follow in Rean's footsteps and attack at another angle, hoping to carve the Shadow in two with a mighty swing of her blade.

Diamondhead's eyes widened as Sae cast her spell.

"What the— URGH!" he yelled as he was pushed back by the magical energy. He was tossed back and tumbled to the street, a few crystal shards chipping off of him as small cracks began to show in his armor. Some random thug ran up to the downed Diamondhead and raised a weapon to try and smash Diamondhead.

Diamondhead responded by rolling away from him, then kicking the thug away while he jumped to his feet. The thug fell to the ground, then shuffled away from the alien. Diamondhead winced, seeing the cracks ever so slightly healing, but definitely not fast enough for this to be sustainable in combat.

Sae then mockingly told Ben not to give up.

"I don't know the meaning of the words!" he yelled, moving to stand in front of Louie and switching to trying to hammer Sae's shadow with suppressive crystal shard fire as more physical oriented fighters started to charge in. He turned his head towards the trainer.

"I dunno! Uh... Why's it matter? Uh, sun! I guess. The other stuff would just get in the way!" Diamondhead answered. Louie then commanded the Pokemon to use Sunny Day, and he saw the sky becoming more intensely bright above, heat starting to beat down on the battle.

"Dueling is one thing but killing is another," Vilgax pointed out. "How well does your magic deal death?"

He then turned away from Jack a little bit.

"You have no concept of what you are dealing with. The Omnitrix is the most powerful weapon I have ever seen. The potential for conquest is staggering. It is a wrist-mounted device that allows the user to freely transform into any number of different species. If I had an army with that kind of power, I would be ''unstoppable!" he insisted.

He then turned back towards Jack, anticipating a response to his earlier question.

Day 26:

Somewhere in the city, an Asian man in his thirties with a goatee◊ was seen walking down an alley, as if he was lost and he got just there.

"Where the fuck is this place?" The man murmured. "This ain't Seoul man..."

Dammit. And here I thought I got a lead on Gon.

The man sighed. "Oh well. Least I'll have to get around somewhere. Let's see where I can stop first."

Apologies if it's too short. Got some family drama.

Just then Shadow Sae sent an attack that sent Two and Diamondhead across the street, luckily Hercules was out of Shadow Sae's range and then used it to his advantage and then leapt in the air towards her and then used both his fists to slam her. If he succeeded he would proceed to punch her repeatedly.

Seeing the Trickster get annoyed by his eariler comment Hades just went: "Hey, hey, hey, chill, it was just a joke. Relax." Hades reassured him and then while he was talking, the Trickster had changed into his normal form which was now Beast-like compared to the old man form he once had. Hades was impressed by this development:" Whoa, now THAT is what I call monstrous. Your my kind of guy, Trickster my man we are gonna get along just fine." Hades then smiled devilishly as he then rubbed his hands as he was starting to formulate a plan in his head.

Cole made a little noise that was probably happiness as the book appeared, reaching out to get it and holding it up for Arcade to see the drawing of a possibly stern-looking and breed-inapparent mutt on the front. "That's Hank, and his friend is Dover, and his other friends are Slim, and there's the cat that he doesn't like very much but I think that's because the cat is smarter than him, but he's not very nice either, but he's just a cat so it shouldn't be a thing but dogs think differently than people so maybe it is? And his human friends are Slim, and there's a little boy who he can talk to because little kids can talk to animals, like I can! Or I could, I don't know if I still can now, I'll have to find out, I think..."

He just continued to babble, completely unaware of any questions regarding breakfast or anything of the sort.

Arcade was not prepared to face a very excited Cole, especially not that early in the morning. He held the book up for Cole to see better and mostly just listened as Cole rambled on.

When Eve ordered some pancakes, he glanced over at Tairee and added, "and some coffee would be great."

Rean stopped charging a Sae for a moment, the blinding light of her attack stunning him for a moment. Luckily he was far enough away still to not get hit directly with the blast. Two and Ben weren't so lucky, though. They seemed ok-ish.

Then Sae decided to taunt them.

"Who said we were!?" Rean shouted in reply, igniting his sword and charging at Sae. It was already pretty hot out thanks to Louie's Pokemon, but maybe hitting the metal on her body with something that was on fire would hurt more.

Outside the Library

Shadow Sae didn't notice the grenade being thrown until it rolled near her feet and exploded into painful shrapnel. An angry, surprised metal grinding screech escaped her as she reeled from the hit. Diamondhead forced her to use her gun and sword as a shield from his shards. The blue haired girl with the sword was charging in again, and the boy that had refrained form joining in before now had a flaming weapon. Shadow Sae's form glowed with a red energy as she called on her Heat Riser again to try and tank the blades coming at her, and then turned to look as Hercules threw himself in too.

"You've come for more punishment, then?" she asked, before he landed on her. Her knees buckled from the force of the hit, but she aggressively slashed at him with her powered up blade. For the moment, she was focused on cutting up Hercules as he tried to punch her.

"Now then", the Trickster answered. "Who exactly is your target, and what capabilities has he?"

"Pancakes and coffee, then. Any specifications?" Miss Tairee said, already tapping away on the holographic screen again.

"Well since it's technology it's probably best I stay out of it then" Jack said with a typical 'oh well' kind of expression and shrug. "My magic would mess that thing up, maybe even beyond function; you obviously wouldn't want that. So, sorry to hold you up; good luck with that kid or whatever" the wizard added, waving a hand and walking away down the street, thinking out loud as he went, "now, I've got me a no-maj girl to track down."

Eve | Library | Hahaha

Cole's enthusiasm towards the book made Eve laugh quietly. It was familiar, and touching, even if she didn't want to break his heart about the talking to animals thing. She doubted that he still had that ability, and simply ruffled his hair. Then she looked over at Miss Tairee, and thought for a moment. "Some cutlery and napkins,as well? And butter and maple syrup? Thank you, Miss Tairee."

"Cutlery and napkins. Plates too of course. Butter and maple syrup. Good choice" Miss Tairee said, as there were blurs on the closest table nearby of said things appearing, along with a big stack of still-hot pancakes. "Anything for the coffee?" the librarian added, still typing away on the holographic screen, "there's always those people who act like anybody worth their salt only takes coffee black, but really there's nothing wrong with some cream and sugar too. Have you tried brown sugar with coffee? It's quite something." Evidently Miss Tairee was fond of coffee.

Two, Vs. Shadow Sae

Her enhancement seemed to have made Two's attack all but a tap on the wrist, but maybe there was something else she could do now that she was within melee range. With Shadow Sae's attention on Hercules, this was her time to strike. She reached out to grab the enemy and put her into a full nelson from behind, hopefully keeping her in place for a moment so she couldn't guard herself from other attacks.

"We've got her on the ropes!" Diamondhead exclaimed, continuing to pepper her with crystal shards. "Just keep up the pressure! We can do this, guys!"

When Sae turned her attention towards the son of Zeus, Diamondhead glared at her.

"Protect Hercules, guys!" he said, slowly stepping forward as he continued to shoot crystals.

Vilgax narrowed his eyes, glaring down at the wizard.

"If you cannot kill Tennyson without destroying the Omnitrix, then you are useless to me," the galactic warlord said. "I will find allies more suited to my purposes."

As he turned and started to storm down the streets again, a white-armored warrior with a round helmet caught his eye. Something about him made him seem like a worthy ally, and Vilgax approached him.

He seemed simple-minded as well. Easy to manipulate and point in the direction of the Tennyson boy.

Outside Library

Seemed like his second grenade hurt the shadow lady without hurting a friend! This was a first for Caboose and something to be proud of. "Wow, you are really good at helping people improve!" the red clad dolt exclaimed sincerely at Sae. "Maybe you should stop with the casino and become a motivational speaker instead?"

And, as if to provide some motivation back to the emo goth girl, he raised up Freckles. "Let's go for the weaker armor parts, Freckles," he said, steadying his aim. And then he let loose a salvo of expertly aimed bullets right at the nemesis.

The Streets- Metastasis

There were so many weak potential allies around here! The Meta wanted someone at least on the level of Washington, someone that could complement his abilities. But all around him were simple bullies and aggressive people from lives lived mundanely. What few individuals were actually strong enough to be an asset were too stupid to be worth his time. To fight a member of the reds and blues, you couldn't fight like them. In a battle of charging straight at the enemy and firing without any care for tactics, sim troopers would win every time. It was why the freelancers used them to train their tactical abilities and leadership, since their own approach was the epitome of simplistic.

But finally, someone approached him. That already showed promise, recognizing that he would be a worthwhile ally. They could use each other, and if needed the squidfaced being would make a good meatshield. Nothing mattered beyond taking Caboose down, after all.

To open communications, Meta began rapidly cycling through radio transmissions in his helmet. The panicked dialogue from endangered civilians made it pretty simple to pick up a good amount of basic blocks of vocabulary that would be useful. "You... Me... WORK... to-GET-her," he communicated, playing a bunch of individual words and sounds obviously taken from other sources, with completely different voices and tones. "Cab-oo-se... is my... target. Strong... fast... stupid." If he was trying to hide the fact that he was using voice manipulation to speak it would have been smoother, but there wasn't time to construct a smooth one for someone he wasn't trying to fool. "Your's?"

Cole didn't seem to be stymied in his babble for a bit, until it finally seemed to dawn on him that the others were discussing something else, and he looked around for a moment before taking it in. "...oh...wait, you're getting breakfast then? ...mmm, okay...I know I have to." He still pouted just a little, but seemed to more or less quickly get distracted by the book, plucking it out of Arcade's hands to take it and turn through the pages, peering intently at the few illustrations in it even as he skipped past most of the words.

Soon enough, there was a whole bunch of pancakes ready to be eaten. Arcade seemed to perk up at the sight almost immediately before becoming slightly overwhelmed by the options for coffee. "Uh, I'll take your word for it and try the brown sugar," he said with a shrug. He doubted he'd dislike anything, really. He knew well enough that he liked just about everything.

He let Cole take the book and flip through it at his leisure as he carefully carried him over to their breakfast. "Glad to know you're at least getting used to it," he muttered, mostly to himself.
