A funny anecdote from Legends: at one point, the Separatists made battle droids reinforced with Cortosis. This actually made Darth Sidious panic, because it meant the Separatists started doing too well for his plans! As such, Chancellor Palpatine, ahem, just happened to come upon the location of the main factory and told the Jedi.

I wanna see a bad guy in the post ST EU (If we get one) revive that strategy and build saber-proof battle droids. Of course, if what's powering this entire new plot is A freaking Starforge that might come across as a repeat and too much like the old Superweapon of the Week.

The existence of a material called Cortosis is canon. It's properties regarding lightsabers are not. All that has been said is that it is blaster conductive.

Cortosis is in Uprising. I believe it makes equipment that it's used on resistant to energy damage.

I foresee no backlash against this decision whatsoever.

Well, they have a point if they want to keep these films focused. We didn't get a whole lot of info on the trio last time.

Blame whatever rewrites they had to do on the first one, the whole mystery box thing that have going, the need for setup, whatever.

[up][up][up] It'll be interesting to see how that ends up being expressed in the final product, since we don't know how big the roles were or how small they will be after the rewrite. I could see a scenario where the characters still have major supporting roles...and were originally written effectively as the main characters of Episode 8 at the expense of the main trio from episode 7.

DO NOT WAN-

Oh, wait. This kind of delay is probably going to make the film better. I'll try to be patient.

Or worse. Sometimes the original ideas were the better ideas and I know one reason for the re-write is to reduce two female roles to spend more time on our three leads.

Nah. I trust Rian Johnson on this, he's not the kind of dude to make a bad movie just because he spent more time on it.

They're still starting to shoot next month, so the rewrite isn't the delay.

They probably just figure they'll get more sales in the winter since TFA released then and they won't have to go up against any Marvel films.

Disney owns Marvel. Couldn't they push past some of their Marvel films to December instead? -Grumble grumble-

They already did that to accommodate a Spider-Man reboot that nobody wanted. Another delay on behalf of a different franchise entirely would have exploded the internet in outrage.

Star Wars is more popular than any Marvel movie.

But is it more popular than every Marvel movie?

You're not talking about delaying a movie. You're talking about shuffling half a dozen back.

I kind of want to see Star Wars 8 up against Avatar 2.

Disney owns both, and Disney also wants the Marvel films to do well. Star Wars can come out whenever and still make big bucks. Marvel maybe not.

It's also suggested they want a bigger gap between it and Rogue One for Marketing purposes.

Delays AFTER filming are usually a bad sign, but before filming starts is usually a sign that they are fine tuning the script.

Of course, Star Trek Into Darkness was apparently delayed because they were looking for the right script, and see how THAT turned out.

Script rewrites based on the fan response of the first movie isn't too bad provided they are the right ideas.
