The Devourer discards the shield as she leaps aside, letting Kakarotto's kick fly past her. She points at Kakarotto, causing her trident to leap from the spot it had impaled itself into the ground and towards him, then leaps towards him himself, catching her weapon as the two converge on his position. With a spinning flourish, she tries yet again to stab him.

"Attempt to avoid them."

Houndoom easily avoids the orange wave to due... moving, but the Blue one knocks its health into the red. Cyrus notes how it didn't affect Adachi and draws the correct conclusions.

"I see. Houndoom, Will-o-Wisp."

Kakarotto twists in the air and barely catches the trident with his hands! Some ichor leaks out where the points touch his skin, surprising him. This thing's sharp!

"Heh... hope you're ready for this one!"

"Hiyagh!"

He shoves hard against the trident, damaging his hands a little more but hopefully throwing DoG into the air. If that works (or even if it doesn't, but it'll be harder to connect) Kakarotto launches himself after her and prepares to land a devastating attack!

"DRAGON... FIST!"

Adachi's blow concusses the Sovereign enough to let Sans and Houndoom hit her, causing stacking damage over time effects. This only gets her brow to furrow.    "You only invite further suffering upon yourselves."   

The Sovereign turns her foes' SOULs purple, stringing them along a ladder-like structure and forcing them to climb as a void of pain swallows up everything beneath them - and each 'rung' has a spike ball on it, too.

Adachi climbs desperately, but he gets his hand caught on a spike and he ends up getting trapped by the void, dealing major damage to him before he is ejected back out! "Oof!" He lands on his back.

* Everything is horrible, and you feel like it's your fault.

"is that all you're able to do? copying the attacks of people more skilled than yourself? sounds like a waste of supposed godlike power to me," Sans says as he flees from the void, deftly avoiding the spiked orbs on the threads. "if you want to kill this skeleton, maybe you should use an attack that's a little less... bare-bones." Another rim-shot.

[ATTACK]

He targets the Sovereign's soul in turn with a series of blue and orange bones moving from several sides in confusing patterns, trying to throw her off her game.

"Suffering is meaningless if one has no spirit to register it."

Houndoom is KOd. Cyrus returns it to its Poké Ball before sending out his third mon. A Crobat.

"Crobat, use Super Fang."

Cyrus's eye twitches as the rimshot rings out.

The Sovereign's body trembles. She clutches at herself.    "Everyone you know and the worlds you love will cease to exist. It is..."   

The Sovereign of Sorrow averts her piercing gaze. Her voice shuddering like she's about to cry, she finishes,    "... Inevitable."   

* The guilt overwhelms the senses.

"We'll just have to see about that," remarks Adachi, using the free round to catch his breath.

The Devourer is shoved backwards into the air, grinning as she hovers there for a moment.

   "Oh, please, you think I'm sca-"    BLAM! The Devourer is cut off as the Dragon Fist hits her, blowing a hole directly through her armor and her torso. For the first time since the start of the fight, not even a smirk is on her face, replaced with disbelief for just a moment before her smug demeanor returns and she turns around in the air to face Kakarotto.

   "That... Is very impressive."    She looks down as her torso and her armor begins to close up, reforming as it were before - although not entirely fixed, remaining quite damaged.    "I'll have to admit, I underestimated you a lot."    As she speaks, a portal opens behind her and ejects a worm similar to her own true form, although much smaller, that begins to drift in spirals around her.    "That changes now."    Along the sharp edges of her armor, purple flames flare up, and her eyes take on a pinkish purple glow. Resummoning her trident and her shield, she flourishes the former as she prepares for Kakarotto's next attack.    "Do your worst, kid."   

[ACT]

* Surrender?

Release

Sans' arms droop to the sides as he looks to the ground.

"i guess you're right. to be honest, i'm just so tired of all this. i've given up on actually trying to make a difference a long time ago. all i'm doing is just delaying the inevitable. what's even the point? why does any of it matter? it's all just going to end anyways."

He closes his eyes.

"for what it's worth... i'm glad to have finally found someone else who understands. just... do your thing already. i sure could use a rest."

"I love nothing."

He raises an eyebrow at Sans's display, but does nothing to stop it.

"Crobat... never mind."

He refrains from attacking and uses the free turn hit his mon up with an X Attack.

"Thanks! I came up with that when I was... forty? I dunno, I was never good with numbers in the first place. Younger than I am now, anyways!"

He raises a finger.

"Sure, I can take things up one more notch. HIYAGH!"

His aura explodes for a moment - SSJ2. Kakarotto launches off the ground - before stopping just a second later in the air and shouting "TAIYOKEN!"

Kakarotto is using the Hypernova Flare. If DoG was looking at Kakarotto - which she probably was, considering they're in a fight - her eyes might hurt quite a lot after seeing this explosion of pure light. It might also scorch her, but the main effect is blinding.

The Sovereign sighs.    "Unfortunately, the work has only just begun. However, you will find yourself reinvigorated for my cause."   

She approaches and reaches out to place a hand upon Sans' head.

Adachi raises an eyebrow and keeps on his guard.

The Devourer stares dead-on as the flare activates. As the glow subsides, she blinks a little and quickly rubs her eyes, but appears to be mostly fine. The worm coiling in the air around her recoils, though, evidently utterly blinded.    "Come on, kid, you think it's that easy to blind me?"    She sets off towards Kakarotto, aiming to impale him on her trident... Except, at the last second, she teleports directly behind him and tries to stick it in his back, instead.

[ATTACK]

At the last moment, Sans' eyes shoot wide open. The flashing blue glow in his left eye is the last thing Sovereign will see before finding herself impaled from all sides in an almost literal forest of bones!

The skeleton hops back and shrugs, staring at the Sovereign with a shit-eating grin on his face as she convulses in pain.

"nope. like i said. you're probably right, but... y'know, if my life is just some bastard's plaything, well, least i can do is make that bastard as absolutely miserable as possible. who knows, maybe they'll even finally learn to give up. i'm a little determined too, you know? and if not, if it's all destined to end like you said... well, i'm not going to be the guy who sat on the sidelines watching it all burn... much less the guy lightning the fires. how does that help anyone? at least i might have the satisfaction of laughing at the anomaly's face in the end. yours, too. you should see the look on it right now. priceless. so, long story short..."

A blue aura surrounds the Sovereign, sending her high in the air, then slamming her into the bones yet again, before they finally retract.

"getttttt dunked on!"

Cyrus is surprised and bemused by the skeleton's power.

"Interesting. Crobat, try to hit her with Super Fang again."

The trident is jammed into his back, though more in the way one jams nails into walls than a sword through a torso. That is, not very deeply. Still, OW.

"EYAGH! That smarts!"

He charges up energy for a second before his aura explodes, using a superior version of the technique from earlier.

"WHITE BLAST!"

The Sovereign stumbles back from Sans' brutal attack and spits up a purplish blood that roils with a foul miasma, eventually breaking free with a yell before dropping to one knee, raising up an arm to stop Crobat's bite with the sleeve.    "This... this is absurd. You're... you're not Game Masters. You're not even Touched by hope; you're all apathetic nobodies. You're just Sprites like all the rest! How are you overpowering me?"   

"Well, I'm certainly no expert on these matters, but..." Adachi casts Maziodyne, unleashing a powerful wave of dark lightning that knocks the Sovereign down onto her side.

"Maybe it's because we're from games well after your time. And people from new games tend to be more powerful than the retro classics."

   "C...Curses... you may be right. But that doesn't mean I'll give up."    Pulling herself to her feet as the black background fades and is replaced with an ominous fog, Sovereign next assumes the form of Naoto Shirogane.◊ She checks her sidearm as Crobat is returned to its ball, forcing Cyrus himself out onto center stage.

"Ooh, big mistake!" taunts Adachi. "Showing me the face of one of those kids I'd have just loved to get my hands around and strangle the life out of... you're just incentivizing me to fight harder."

A New World Fool - Persona 4

It appears the new arrangement is 'fighting game', and as a result Sans actually has HP to spare - but not a whole lot of it, so he'd best take his hits sparingly and make sure he doesn't get combo'd.

The Sovereign doesn't intend to give him that option. She jumps at him and summons a corrupt version of Naoto's Persona, Sukuna-Hikona, to perform a downwards-angled stab before landing and attempting a rush of sweeping kicks, finishing with a gunshot.

Adachi spends his turn rolling his neck and straightening out his posture. "Ah, it's like I can finally breathe again!"

The Devourer is hit head-on by the blast, being even more damaged that last time even if her powerup helps migitate some of it. She dispels the trident, opting to go for an extremely high-speed barrage of punches, her fists engulfed in purple flame.

"Personally, I would believe your defeat to be due to your insistence on going through this affair as a game as opposed than wiping us out with a thought."

His eyes widen as Crobat is sucked into its Ball, and he realizes that the mode of this 'game' is... to fight with his own abilities. ... What abilities?

"What?!"

Fuckin uh... he throw a punch!

The punches start hitting Kakarotto while he's cooling down from that last attack, and he grimaces. He fumbles to start blocking the strikes.

"All right, you asked for it!"

He starts charging energy... and charging... and charging...!

And charging.

Power roils around him as ki builds up to tremendous densities within him. It almost feels as though the world is funneling around him. That's because it is - his density is reaching absurd levels with all the ki building up in this tightly within him, and it's causing Kakarotto to generate his own gravitational field.

The Devourer quickly backs off, using her own gravity-warping powers to counteract Kakarotto's gravitational field - although the effort this takes does preclude her from attacking.

Sans summons a long bone in his hands to block the diving kick, but when the Sovereign follows up with a sweeping kick, he has no time to block low. He is hit by a couple of the sweeping kicks, before that weird flicker happens again, displacing him just enough to interrupt the chain of attacks and allow him to attempt a thrusting attack with a bone surging out of his palm.

"huh. i'm still alive. nice of you to throw me a bone there," he says with a his signature grin.

The Sovereign easily blocks Cyrus' punch with her bare arm, but the bone slips past her guard and knocks her back a little.    "If... I could wipe you out in the blink of an eye, I think I would have by now. However, something is preventing me from using my full power here, so this is the best I can manage. I still believe it's plenty."   

She tries to grab Cyrus by the shoulder, and if successful will shove him back to set him off-guard before unloading three rounds into him rapid-fire.

Adachi jumps at the Sovereign from behind, having Magatsu-Izanagi perform a raking aerial claw sweep!

Cyrus grimaces at Sans's pun before being effortlessly combed by the Sovreign. He curls up on the ground, a little blood coming out of his mouth.

"... I survived that? Curious."

Forcing himself to get up, Cyrus starts to block. If the Sovereign comes within range he will throw a single jab before resuming to defend.

"... Huh, neat."

Well, she's still not focusing on actual defense. He warps in front of the Devourer before throwing a hand forwards and just sort of causing an explosion.

"Dark Energy Burst!"

"yeah. strange, isn't it? as far as i can tell this place exists outside of normal time and space too. i should probably do some research on it. i'll get to it later. eventually. maybe."

He backs away to put some distance between himself and the Sovereign and starts spamming boomerang-like spinning bones towards the abomination.

The Sovereign gets knocked back and flinched repeatedly by Sans' bones, but she manages to get into a defensive stance, assisted by her Touched Sukuna-Hikona creating a hexagonal barrier in front of her.◊ If attacked at close range, she will counter with an explosion in front of her; if attacked from afar, she will fire a projectile at the attacker.

Adachi pauses and studies Cyrus. "Hmmm... Are you sure you can't use your little pets for brief attacks or something? I know there's plenty of fighters out there who use summons to assist them."

Sans notices the barrier, but mistakes it for just a defensive shield that can be broken through, and sends out a wave of bones surging from the ground. When a projectile comes flying at his face for his troubles, he raises the same bone barrier he used to block the earlier downward kick.

"This seems logical."

He thinks about what he should do, before jabbing. A bunch. In the air.

haha super meter go vrrrrrrr

The Sovereign places a targeting reticle on the ground in front of her. The first person who stands on top of the reticle will immediately get consumed by an eruption of magical power, with no chance to dodge (avoiding the trap is how they dodge it). Then she jumps backwards a bit and places another reticle in the air in front of her, with all the same properties except airborne instead of on the ground.

Adachi jumps and nimbly dashes through the traps, before attempting to trip the Sovereign with a foot sweep. If successful, he will then point and laugh at her.
