Well, the obtuseness is extremely insular and cliquish at worse. Which some of the older pages kinda read as if you're not very familiar with troper terms. I mean, Kick the Dog, Pet the Dog, Fridge Logic, Nightmare Fuel, The Scrappy, The Woobie, etc, etc. There's a whole vocabulary needed to ever start talking about tropes on this website correctly. Getting rid of the vocab that's not needed is more often then not a help.
