Holy shit a new Snap game. How long has it been?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. It's been 3,000 years...
Original Pokemon Snap came out in 1999-2000 depending on region, so ~20 years.
Wonder how many different Mons it'll have.
Looks like it has almost all the gens in, but probably not ALL of them. At least there's potential DLC.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. They'll need to have ALOT of Pokemon for this one. One of the biggest complaints with the first Snap was that it didn't have all the Pokemon, and that was just Gen 1. Granted, that was also back when they didn't have 3D models to easily take from the main games.
-Witty line-They'll still need to cap the number of Pokémon in there, especially if they reuse the whole "must get a certain score and a photo of every single 'mon but one" thing from the original game.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownWell, cap the number on any given level, sure, but in the game as a whole? Well, depending on what they intend to sell this game for, I would think that would determine how many pokemon they use.
Considering that when the first game came out, there were only 5 Legendaries total, it made sense to have Mew be the "final boss" of sorts. Now that there are over 70 Legendary Pokemon, there will probably be tons of hidden bosses, secret missions, and unlockable encounters to find them all, even if they only include half of them in the game.
Last I checked, we've either hit quad digits for total number of Pokémon in the franchise, or are pretty close to doing so. They can only fit so many Pokémon on a single course, and they can only make so many courses. Sooner or later they'll have to start choosing which 'mons won't appear in the game.
Of course, if they get clever, they can extend the number of courses by reusing them but with different weather, or at a different time of day. Which means they can switch out the Pokémon used and fit a few more in. Do that enough, with a sufficient number of courses... and they can minimize the number of skipped Pokémon.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownSword and Shield without the DLC is 10.3 GB. Being generous that adding all the Pokemon would double that (most likely would be less), and you'd still have a game that's a little large for Switch games, but not particularly noticeable for modern AAA games overall. File storage isn't going to be a concern for a long time.
The effort to implement and bug test them all is legit, but there's a reason there's so much iterating and reusing of assets.
We haven't hit 1000 individual species yet. We're actually still just a bit short of 900, IIRC.
It would still be rough trying to cram them all in there, though, especially if a bunch of alternate forms pop up too.

Pokemon Snap is not a game that needs to have the entire dex.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Still would be nice to have a lot.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order. When it comes to Snap I don't really mind as long as the game has at least as many Pokemon as the original. Which is a pretty low bar I think.
What I want is for it to live up to the original, in how you can do more things in each course as you unlock new items.
I know a lot of my love for the original game is nostalgia speaking. But unlocking new items and figuring out how to use them in each course was so much fun.
I'd expect like 500-600 at most, and I'd consider it highballing it.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*I expect 200-300.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!63 Pokemon out of 151 showed up in the original Snap. That's about 42% of all Pokemon at the time. There are 893 Pokemon currently, disregarding alternate formes. So putting that in the calculator, that's about 373 Pokemon that'll probably be in this game.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.I have trouble imagining more than 30 unique Pokemon to a course, but it's too early to get a sense of how large the game will be. My guess would be 200 unique Pokemon at the lowest, 500 at the highest.
They just use the Pokemon that were originally dropped from Swi Sh.
-Witty line-From EA Play:
Apex Legends is coming to Switch this fall; part-of cross-play.
7 new games coming to Switch over the next 12 months (including Burnout Paradise Remaster and Apex Legends).

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."So, I just discovered this was a thing. Why is there an inverted color option to play the Switch with?
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.I honestly don't know why Nintendo patched that in.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownIt's likely an accessibility option.
The memes are over! A new Pokémon Snap has been revealed for Switch! [[small:And Pokemon Cafe mix as well.]]
