I believe y'all meant Green Mario.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Honestly, I think most of the compalints about Joker's inclusion boil down to this: The problem isn't that he's third party so much as that he's not a big name third party character. All of the third-party characters involved so far are fairly big names and/or function as representatives for their whole series' rather than a singular game. E.g. Cloud is basically the poster boy for JRPG games, and the game he himself was the star of is arguably the most well-known game as the series. Same goes for characters like Ryu (Mr. Fighting Game himself) or Snake (for stealth games). People are (generally) more forgiving about Non-Nintendo characters being included when said characters have played a major role in the history of video games. While Joker's home series probably merits inclusion, the decision to use Joker specifically over any other characters who might've represented the series as a whole probably ruffles a few feathers. Combined with rumors and it ends up looking like he's in because of Sakurai favoritism or as a marketing stunt rather than because he's actually important enough to merit a spot.
The fact that we know there are only five available slots, and people are obviously going to complain that including him is going to exclude other characters who are either more popular or who fit the "celebration of video games" idea better.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm fine with Joker getting in due to Sakurai favoritism. Sakurai works too hard, he needs to treat himself now and then.
He needs a snickers,or a kitkat
New theme music also a boxIs he "too recent", like Corrin? Is Persona itself the problem or just Joker? I haven't played a Persona game but I know they're a major JRPG series with international cred. There are more popular JRPGs out there but a lot suffer from poor recognition on an international level, like Dragon Quest.
Maybe they should have used Yu instead. I wouldn't mind a port of 4 either, honestly. It's been ported onto many consoles but not a Nintendo one.

That could be part of it. The problem isn't with Joker per se, it's that they it looks like their thought process was less "let's pick a character to rep the Persona/Shin Megami Tensei series" and more "putting the protag of the most recent game in Smash would be a great way to drum up interest!"
That said, it's all conjecture on my part, since I don't know enough about Persona either to say who a better rep would be.
Corrin's issues were kinda different though. In that case the sticking point was that 1. it was yet another Fire Emblem character and 2. the game wasn't even out yet (at least in the west), which made it feel like a transparent marketing plot meant to drum up interest in Fates.

Reaction Image RepositoryI think I was a little annoyed about Corrin until it switched to gameplay footage and reminded me that Corrin is a freaking dragon. I'm indifferent to them as a character, but I like the way they were implemented in Smash.

Corrin was strange gameplay wise with me, I've never really used any other FE characters extensively.
But when it came to Corrin, I just really meshed with their playstyle. As a result, I've ended up using Corrin quite a bit in SSBU.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobMarketing ploys for first-party games are way different than marketing ploys for third-party games in my opinion.
This song needs more love.Yeah, Corrin is honestly my favorite FE character to play as in Smash.
Reaction Image RepositoryI don't care much for Corrin as a character but they're a lot of fun to play as so I like having him around. Would have preferred they use the female Corrin as the default to better contrast with Robin but it's not a dealbreaker.
I can't find it in myself to hate the ONLY first-party DLC newcomer from Smash 4, no matter who it is. I'm really hoping Joker doesn't suggest a similar trend for Ultimate of nothing but third-party.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Honestly, that's my only real issue with Joker at this point. As a character, I'm pretty much ambivalent on him until we see how he plays. But really do hope it isn't setting a trend. I'm not against more third-party characters, but I'd prefer that A. they don't get a majority of the DLC slots and B. if they are included, they'd be chosen based on their importance in video game history rather than for the sake of marketing.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm kinda hoping that Crash Bandicoot and Banjo & Kazooie get in as a way to represent Sony and Microsoft.
I mean Joker is arguably more of a Sony mascot than Crash is these days.
This song needs more love.I'm actually hoping for the opposite. I want Joker to be an indication of a trend that all of the DLC characters are from game franchises new to Smash Bros.
Shameless marketing would be preferable to whatever the heck Joker is. It's why I don't mind a Dragon Quest character despite it being even more boring in my eyes (and that's unlikely to change unlike what would happen if I played Persona). They'd have some synergy going on in addition to actual big legacy.
I do hope for Crash Bandicoot and Banjo-Kazooie, although in my case it's mostly because I like Crash Bandicoot, and I'd rather not have to deal with the inevitable whining if BK doesn't make it in.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah Joker sets a really unfortunate precedent. Everybody else at least has history, either with Nintendo or the gaming industry at large - I shit on Cloud's inclusion alot but he really is Mr. JRPG and Mr. Final Fantasy at the end of the day.
Joker... exists? His game sold well and was well received but I could say the same thing about a lot of other characters that would be equally weird to see announced for Smash. If he isn't being included to promote a Persona 5 port to the Switch it'll be even stranger.

Well this was a surprise. God Eater 3 launches on July 12 for the Switch. Did we not have any pervious warning on this one, or did I simply not pay attention to the right sources to find out before?
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownThey hinted it was coming a few months ago.
Switch Summer continues its rampage.
Well I guess we know which version of Vesperia's Definitive Edition ultimately sold the most.
I more or less don't mind third party characters not having history with Nintendo or aren't important to gaming as a whole.
The only hard rule with third party characters is "Must be from a video game".

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!I'm not really sure why the Switch thread is talking about Ultimate when there's a Ultimate thread but I guess there's no problem
mario should have a persona
