Guess they want to bring the campy charm of the Showa era back.

So I'm like a huge godzilla fan. I've loved the series ever since I was a little kid all the way back in the late 90's. I want to know: How good are the Godzilla IDW comics, and which certain issues/story arc's would you personally reccomend?

I think my favorite Godzilla movies besides the first one are probably most of the films from the 1984-1995 time period. Almost all of those movies were just so great or at least really entertaining. People tend to give Vs. Spacegodzilla some shit, and while it's not a perfect movie I don't find it THAT bad, especially since Spacegodzilla himself was a pretty cool villain.

A post earlier mentioned Sci-Fi running Godzilla films a lot, that is where I became a Big G fan from. They also pretty much only showed Showa Godzilla films and it's no coincidence Showa is my favorite era.

^^I'll freely admit that out of the more cheesy films in the series, Hedorah is probably my favorite. Yeah it had an aesop that was about as subtle as a Captain Planet episode, but it was really entertaining and actually had some legitimitly creepy moments amongst all the camp. And for more bonus points, unlike most Godzilla 70's films, it didn't resort to using stock footage for the fights, not that they could since Hedorah was an entirely new character at the time. And of course there's the classic flying scene at the end.

Casting details on the Anno film have been announced and the official title has been revealed as "Shin Godzilla", Shin being chosen for its multiple meanings "new", "true" and "God". Modern day Godzilla attack on Japan with American intervention. Godzilla's bigger then Legendary's and they're aiming to emphasize a horrifying wrath of God angle.

That title makes me think they turned Shinji Ikari into Godzilla. And considering who's directing it...

Not really, since the guy above you gave the meaning for Shin.

And man, the new Godzilla suit in the article certainly seems to emphasize that, holy shit.

That's just be a shot of the Godzilla Hotel head. There is an interesting silhouette to the Godzilla on the mugs they gave the extras though.

I just realized that "Shin Gojira" is awfully close to "Shin-Goji" from Twisted Kaiju Theater.

Quick question. How would you fans feel if the Lego franchise made a Godzilla game?

LEGO Godzilla? How would that work on the mission level?

Otherwise, I'd demand a RAMPAGE bonus level where you pick your monster, then rampage across Tokyo/Legoland.

Can definitely feel Anno's trademarks here (text flashes ahoy!), and looks to be more serious. Though I really hope the film doesn't include this much Jitter Cam.

And attaching a trailer for Eva 3.0 + 1.0 would also help as well.

Seriously, enough trying to tie this and Eva 3.0 +1.0 to This film all the time. It likely won't happen, it is getting irritating, and it's insulting to the character of Godzilla.

Also, this is a teaser, likely not representative of the final product, so I don't expect it to be clover field like.

Also, Japanese directors use Text flashes all the time, Anno didn't invent it.

Still, it's just that white text on black screens that flash by really fast is a staple of his works.

I do appreciate it going back to the darker tone of the original film though.

Hmmm, I have to ask: Is Godzilla in the new Japanese movie going to be the traditional guy in a rubber suit... or is he's going to be CGI? This teaser doesn't really make it clear.
