Nope. Nintendo needs Square's permission to use them.

Which is probably why said Super Mario RPG characters have been MIA since their debut. Nintendo don't seem like the type to pay to use other people's characters.

RE: the Sakurai event, Sakurai did one of these for Banjo-Kazooie and it was in fact all about Banjo-Kazooie's DLC release.

@Rob and the one time they did get a Square character in, his franchise became the Red-Headed Stepchild as far as representation goes.

Yeah. It's been mentioned that Square has been massively stingy with representation. Cloud is big, but him being the only FF rep (or Square rep period) is telling.

While it's not like Square has done nothing for Nintendo since the split, they have been more or less Team Sony for life, with all their biggest projects (namely Final Fantasy, barring the occasionally remake or port of an older game in the franchise) have been for the holders of the Spider Man rights.

We've had our Bravely Defaults, Octopath Travelers and pretty much every single PS era Final Fantasy has been released for Switch, but I still feel like Square is keeping the big N at arms length out of habit now.

I'm not perfect! Sure, the company has been Square Enix for years now but I don't know Dragonquest as well as I know Final Fantasy, so when I think Square, I think Final Fantasy and thus when I think of Square reps for Smash, I think Cloud!

End of an Era: journalist Daan Koopman received a PR email from Ubisoft claiming Just Dance 2020 will be the last Wii game ever made.

You know, I don't even follow the Just Dance games, but I have a friend who loves the series, but I thought this would go a lot longer than 10 years.

It feels right that the last Wii game is a Just Dance game.

Just Dance 2020 is being made for Wii, but not Wii U. If you can believe that.

It's been made clear by everyone in and out of Nintendo that Wii U is considered a 100% disgrace (though Reggie referred to it as an Upwards failure since it created the framework for the Switch).

I still like it though.

Specifically, they're still making Just Dance games, which will end this year. I guess up to now there have been enough people still playing their Wiis to make it worthwhile.

Apparently Wii Just Dance is a popular choice for physical therapy in hospitals.

That likely doesn’t move enough units to have justified making them for over half a decade after everyone else moved on though.
