I'm pretty sure they both got the point, especially since Kureha handed Lulu her Promise Kiss pot during her speech.
What's precedent ever done for us?So how's the dub?
I guess I'll have to watch the scene again. I thought it was a bit subtler than it must have been then.
A zombie-yuri-squirrel-bear-cyborg powering an anti-yuri-bear black-lily-cannon. I love this show. Right, putting that out of the way, that was a great episode. Loved the Lulu focus. Truly she is the best girl.
The dub is... well I cannot actually say for sure since I only heard a few scenes, but some people seem pretty terrible. I don't know how you can mess up 'Sparkle' and 'Shabadadu', but the Life's VAs did. By god, they did. And the Yuri Approved scene made me cringe and close that window. Given how Yuri Kuma's sound direction is so top-notch at times, it was pretty jarring.
Right, so I just finished the first episode, aaaaaand...
Yeah, I'm lost.
The dub is serviceable, but the valley girl bear can sound annoying sometimes, so beware.
Wait, are you implying "shaba-da-doo" was somehow relevant and not just random scatting?

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.Shabadadoo is extremely relevant.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot. It's about the Japanese attitude to lesbians and how profoundly fucked up it is. Kumaria's explosion represents the Meiji Restoration and the official sanctioning of Christianity in Japan. That should get you started.
Oh, and this is an Ikuhara show, so don't watch the dub unless you have to. You'll lose a lot of nuance.

What's precedent ever done for us?I figured it was about how Tall Poppy Syndrome is a screwed-up mindset to have, simply going by that "herd" scene or whatever, and the lyrics to the ED song.
Also telling me not to watch a dub is like telling water not to be wet.

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. This is very specifically a show about yuri (which should be obvious, really). The herd (or, more accurately, flock) mentality is due to the particular attitude to lesbian sexuality in Japan. See our page on "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship for a very basic starter - long story short, it's tolerated so long as (a) you understand that it's training for becoming a proper housewife that you'll grow out of eventually, and (b) that it doesn't get too overtly sexual. anything else marks you as immature, perverted, and downright odd, and nets you a hefty dose of social exclusion. It's really telling that Japanese lesbians (unlike gay men, who have their own, different problems) don't even have their own word for 'lesbian' - they have to borrow an English loanword.
What's precedent ever done for us?Hmm. I guess more will get clearer as I go further into the series. Especially knowing that about it now.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.Episode 10:
Friends, today we mourn the loss of our dear friend Lulu. Fun. Spunky. Always had a knack for bright ideas. Unfortunately, due to the heightened dangers of the invisible crowd, along with a death ray powered by one of her kind, she had to return to the World of Bears on the other side of the Wall of Serverance. She will sorely be missed...
...Although, there seems to be more bears beyond the wall than I thought. Well, someone had to fall to the death ray.
All are equal under Kumalia's judgement. Including humans.

I'm thinking the bear that "fell" to the giant lily ray was Yuriika; Kureha was around when Yuriika died and might have been able to move the body.
Also Lulu needs all the hugs. ALL OF THEM.
Avatar from http://x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com/7486.htmlColor was wrong
Mhm. The colour suggests it was Yurizono.
IKUHARAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
i. hear. a. sound.Okay, I think all the holes have been filled. Or at least, I can't think of any more flashbacks that are needed. Though I'm sure I'll be wrong. Still not sure what's going on with Mitsuko. And another bear bites the bullet.
He's worse than Urobutcher! Seriously, most of the cast has been killed.
I'm curious about watching this anime, but I saw the Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy trope in the YMMV subpage, which worries me. Is this anime still good despite that?

IKUHARAAAAAAAA!!!! ...He's sure channeling some mix of Tomino and Urobuchi, that's for sure. I saw Lulu's death coming from a mile away but it was still full of impact. And as always, full points go to whoever's in charge of sound direction.
Only one episode left! Place your bets, folks. I'm hoping that Lulu will somehow come back and that that somehow will involve Kureha turning into a bear. Please give us a threesome ending, Ikuhara.
I really don't think that entry is very accurate, but it's YMMV in the first place, so well... For what it's worth, I like it. I like it a lot.
Most of the people who die are barely (bearly) given focus, the dramatic action mostly involves Ginko, Lulu and Kureha. I like those three characters, even if as people they're all shown to have faults. I suspect the problem lies with the people who didn't get this was Ikuhara's take on Yuri in the first place. Or possibly the fact that it challenges some notions on yuri, I dunno. Some people feel threatened by this kind of thing.
That said, it might not be your cup of tea due to the symbolism or surrealism, which are different issues.

This episode was great. The stuff with Kureha and Ginko as kids was heart-wrenching. "It's not okay for me to be a bear" ;_;
I wonder if Invisible Storm leader girl will be redeemed?
edited 23rd Mar '15 5:08:57 PM by majoraoftime
I doubt she'll be redeemed, but I guess it's a possibility.
And now that you remind me of it, perhaps I should take back what I said in my post. Perhaps the best way out of this mess shouldn't be becoming bears or humans, but them just being themselves and screw the system, build their own way out of this. Ginko shouldn't have to feel guilty over being a bear, or over loving a human girl. Kureha shouldn't have to be systematically bullied and targeted because she liked a bear, or because she openly loved another girl.
Luluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! ;-; Yes, Lulu... you are the most clever of them all TT-TT
If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.Oh man, my heart. ;_;
Lulu is the cleverest bear.
;______; I hope she and Sumika meet in the afterlife and watch over their girlfriends together...

Poor Lulu. How could Kureha be so mean?
Maybe a Shoo the Dog / Break His Heart to Save Him kind of thing, but was it necessary?
Also is it always snowing/falling ash in that part of Lesbian Bearica?
This time they've gone too far with the suspense.
Also yuri cyborg bear yuri cannon yadda yadda.
