Overwatch

Patch notes are out... and I can't believe they're STILL taking sweet sweet time to balance issues such as sojurns for months. It's like they don't even listen to any feedback and just looking at data that aren't representing the core issues. Ugh.

I am glad you brought this up as I genuinely do not get how people can go back to Overwatch after two years of literally no updates only for a forced glorified update with worse monetization, three meh characters (Junker Queen is the only one thats pretty different), a lower TTK which removes some of the uniqueness of the first OW, and so on. That's not even getting into the scandals behind the scenes.

I just don't understand. I used to love OW too but they have wasted any patience I had. A lot of people I saw that claimed they wouldn't bother with Blizzard games anymore just went right back to them anyways despite their still being more lawsuits. My only thought is people really have taken to that sunk cost fallacy I suppose or they are so used to the bad noise from big gaming companies that they can ignore it these days. It's bizarre to me.

Because the game is still fun? Like, having no actual progression or skins definitely sucks, but the Junkenstein/Wrath of the Bride modes are genuinly fun, the banter is nice, overwatch has entertaining charatcers...

Yeah Overwatch 2 had a successful launch. Considering the blizzard allegations and general teeth-punching they've done lately that speaks volumes about how people will always return to what's familiar to them. Hell, I'm here and considering buying the battle pass. I mostly credit Junker Queen for that.

I am fucking tired of playing support though god damn. The only one I have any fun with anymore is Brigitte, because I can pretend to be a tank with her.

It's funny how if you twitter search "Kiriko" you get a lot of cute fanart (And giveaways), if you search "Junker Queen" you get a lot of simps begging for her to step on them (Me too people), and if you search "Sojourn" you just get a lot of people crying for her to be nerfed.

Poor lass. You'd think the R34 folks would at least appreciate the size of her butt.

Not that i would have personally checked or anything, but on the main r34 site, Kiriko has roughly 500 entries as of writing this, while Junken Queen has only 220, and Sojourn has... fewer than fiftiy.
Yeah, r34 artists have a bigger reaction to "waifu bait" kirko than "lesbian hot" junker queen. And Sojourn... exists, i suppose.

You'd think Dva already filled that niche. They both even have the facial markings!

I really do like all three of the new ladies. They're fun to play, have great banter (Especially in the new Bride of Junkenstein event) and Sojourn's CANADIAN which I definitely appreciate. I just get annoyed by Kiriko being sorta Sailor Earth-y I guess.

I was struck with inspiration.

But seriously, making stuff more expensive to buy with in-game currency than with real money is beyond scummy. Like, what happened to the people who cracked down on games with loot boxes? Did they just disappear? Because I think we need them like the world needed the Avatar when the Fire Nation attacked.

As scummy as they are, i ehsitate to say the current practices are "more" evil than lootboxes.
Lootboxes were literral gambling, at least with this model, you know what you buy when you buy things, even if they are stupidly overpriced.
But I fully agree that the current model of FOMO, of battlepasses, of endless grind for literral pennies in value, is extremely horrible.

As an aside, anyone translated what's on the Bride's board near the end of the level? I know a bit of spanish so i know it mostly relates to her plan (she crossed out "search for death" and wrote in huge letters "Avoid the witch!", but i don't understand much.

What's funny is that Sojourn is the long awaited black woman the fandom wanted and it's personality wise a pretty boring character (let's ignore the livestream Blizzard did about her which had the streamers interviewing the devs talk about her race and nothing more instead of her lore or something, she's a bit lacking atm)

Besides that, i like Sojourn. She is obnoxious to play against and she might not fit the new brawl but i like her anyway.

I like her interaction with Lucio. It speaks to my canuck soul.

I find it amusing that Kiriko got most of the fan-art despite honestly being a rather boring character.

She's very plain looking, not very interesting.

She's cute "waifu bait" and not much else. It really feels like they're trying to check off boxes based on what players might spend money on rather than make interesting characters.

I mean like I said Kiriko could be mistaken for Dva at first glance, and Dva's definitely the most-fanarted, most-cosplayed, most-POTG character they had previously. I like Kiriko more than Dva though because Dva's my least favorite tank and Kiriko's at least my third favorite healer to play as... So I guess that has nothing to do with their designs.

My white, male, cisgendered ass always wondered why that specifically was always asked for. Paladins beat Overwatch to the "Black Woman" train three◊ times over◊ and I never heard anyone make a peep about it at any point.

I've heard a few people call her bland and I'm slightly reminded of Rochelle from Left 4 Dead 2 where Valve removed some of her more colorful dialogue in an attempt to avert the Sassy Black Woman trope but that just left her feel hollow compared to her teammates. I can't say I agree with the view though; Sojourn definitely has some fun dialogue with the other characters from what I've played. I think people are just giving Junker Queen and Kiriko bonus points because they have cinematic trailers that go over their origins.

I assume it was because it took the otherwise quite diverse cast at least 32 to characters, including three black men, four robots, and two uplifted animals, before featuring a single black woman.

I am walking into a minefield here, so forgive me for any missteps, but... if we count Lucio as black... why don't we count Ana and Pharah as black as well? Or what about orisa (who's a robot but with her voice and amnnerism and country of origina would most likely be black)?

When people talk about "black characters", they tend to specifically talk about African-American representation. I remember there being an article about Street Fighter 6 about how Kimberly is the series "first black female character", which was later changed to "first African-American female character" after being blasted for ignoring Elena (Kenya) and Menat (Egypt).

Also, i will soften my opinion on Kiriko in the Bride event (her invicibility is exrtremely useful), but i still maintain that her healing (slow but sustained) is bad in a mode with so much burst damage. Especially in the gargoyles and summoner fights, where their shield block it
As an aside, why did blizz add an ammo count to her healing? Kiriko's healing is "empty her ammo each use", and she regains all her "ammo" at once.

You can set her healing to "hold" which lets you cancel her heal faster.

I prefer it that way as it makes her gameplay more responsive

Ana and Pharah are middle-eastern.

Sojourn is canadian, does it really count as african-american?

Egypt is considered Middle Eastern? -looks it up-

but Sudan and Ethopia aren't

Middle Eastern refers to a region and not an ethnicity, so it would be more acurate to say that Phara and Ana are Arabs like the majority of Egypts population.

Canada is in America ya self-centered yank, just not the USA. (I realize you are not a self centered yank, that is the joke.)

Ya'll all need to read a bunch more books on demographics or something come on.

I really want the patch cycle to be more frequent, the game is out for a month and it's already getting stale. Tank: Zarya, Winston, D.va, everything else is throw pick.

DPS: Genji, Sombra, Sojourn, Tracer, everything else is throw pick.

Support: If you EVER pick Mercy or Moira, you're throwing according to Mr.GM but Master because of my teammates.

I swear to god, Master queue is pure hell.
