I don't know, I think Earphone Jack's an alright name, though it'd be interesting to see who changes their name, if anyone.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any good name ideas for Bakugo and Todoroki? I personally like "Detonation" and "Ground Zero" for Bakugo - I've also see "Dynamite", which is alright, but doesn't quite do it for me. It might be cool if he called himself "Dyna-Might or something, as a tribute to All-Might.

I will say that most of the Class B names we have so far have struck me as better than Class A's - Vantablack, Gévaudan, Phantom Thief, Battle Fist, Real Steel, whatever Hiryu's was. Those are so kickass names.

I do think that Class A has some good ones, though. Red Riot and Chargebolt pretty awesome, Uravity and Ingenium are pretty decent in my book, and I actually like Creati - the "i" at least makes it look better than if it was "Creaty". And of course, while not sounding the most impressive, Deku has a lot of meaning behind it.

I wasn’t singling you out or anything - I just thought I’d give Class A some credit.

Also, for what it’s worth, one of the most popular superheroes in the U.S. is named “Batman”, so maybe we don’t have much ground to stand on in regards to names like “Tail Man”. Sure, it flows well off the tongue, but it’s not especially creative.

Edit: Oh, and Tsukuyomi is pretty awesome too, and lest we forget Can’t Stop Twinkling...

I wonder if we'll find out what Bakugo and Todoroki settled on during these matches. Never found out with Bakugo, and while it would be funny if Todoroki stuck with "Shoto", I doubt it.

Superman and Batman can get away with it due to having two of the first superhero characters to get popular. Problem is that everybody after them took that pattern and copied it, to the point that it's just uncreative.

Hiryu's codename is Dragon Shroud, or at least that's the literal translation

Speaking of translation, I don't know how the Italian volume's translation is since I don't buy them (though I'd say it's ok), but I've watched a piece of the Italian dub of the anime, and quirks are called "quork" (and no, it doesn't mean anything nor it's any kind of pun)

The German dub translated Quirk with "Spezialität"(specialty) which sometimes doesn't flow at all (no wonder when you translate a single syllable word with one with five).

Otherwise the German dub is actually pretty good. It helps that Daniel Käser's voice is a death ringer for Nobuhiko Okamoto .

Yeah, the Italian Dub is quite good too (honestly, in Italy we have really good dubbers, tough animated shows' dub can be bad sometimes), while the word used in the translations online (and I guess in the volumes) is "Unicità" (uniqueness)

It's just the strange change from "quirk" to "quork", and All might removal of his Gratuitous English, that bother me

In the Italian manga they keep "Quirk" and "Hero" as english words. Which... makes sense for "quirk", less for "hero", especially when the word is used in its general "heroic person" meaning rather than the "hero as a job" meaning.

The part where Kouta admits that Deku has become "his hero" is really awkward, it reminded me of the older English scanlations where they kept "nakama" as a Japanese word.

Of the two choices, I think translating "Quirk" to "Unicità" is better (though it has its awkward moments too), since it's a Japanese word in the original text.

Brazilian manga uses Dom ("gift") and Brazilian anime uses Individualidade (exactly what you guessed).

French uses "alter", which works wonders… though I can't say the French dub is that good otherwise.

"Dom" is perfect. I don't get why they would use a 5 or 6 syllable word instead in the anime, let alone an 8 syllable one…

Little fun fact: When MangaStream first started scanlating MHA, they tried using "Individuality", but by then Quirk was well established as the translation of choice that there was enough backlash that they changed to quirks soon after.

With Mangastream, it's more like they realized it was popular and just tried to snatch it up without actually knowing anything about it.

None of the dictionaries I use (Rikai-kun, Imiwa, Jisho and EJJE Weblio) has 個性 as "quirk", so I do understand why Mangastream would be against using it at first. Even though this is not exactly an Woolseyism, it's a quirky enough word choice that it would feel like I'm stealing someone else's translation if I used it.

Its Swedish version ("Nyck") does sound pretty neat too.

One of the possible translations of "kosei" is "individuality" which is a mouthful and doesn't sound good. However, one can assume that what makes a person an "individual" is their unique traits, or "quirks" if you will. It is a very good translation, actually. What all translations should strive for.

It's a legit translation but, as you say, a mouthful since you're going from 2/3 syllables to about 7.

But "quirk" translated in Swedish becomes "nyck" so technically, yes, there is a Swedish version of the word.
