This does seem like a silly thing to get stuck on to me, I have to admit.

And this is why I'm glad I don't interact with the fandom outside of this forum.

So what you're saying is, we need to start acting like the rest of the fandom.

My main reason is that when you open this pandora's box, it SELDOM goes well for everybody involved. I don't want to get labeled something I'm not or lectured on inclusivity or whatever once more just because I'm not jumping on a bandwagon of something that is being intentionally misinterpreted.

In all seriousness, I'm all for Mineta being bisexual, if it's actually used for developing him and possibly having him Rescued from the Scrappy Heap rather than just be a throw away line. God knows Mineta could use the development, since despite being part of Izuku's friend circle as far back as the Sports Festival, he has to be the least developed of the circle. Even more so now that the circle has grown bigger.

Lets all just take it easy.

It's not a big deal, and we don't need to use this to dunk on Mineta or anyone's sexual preference. We're a classy bunch here.

Now, instead, we could make jokes about what Mineta would do with that bead chain technique he came up with when he becomes an adult....

Regardless this is still a pretty good moment for him, stating how much he respects Deku.

And it makes sense especially when you remember he was there during Deku’s first encounter with villains during the League’s first assault on UA.

That's a good point.

In fact, this is one of those moments that works best with him, where he's not being his usual self.

It also ties back into a lesser character arc that had seemingly been dropped after the final exams: his initial cowardice and Izuku inspiring him to be braze in spite of his fears, since that was what heroes did. It's another moment of how Izuku just being himself changed his classmates lives for the better, and is an acknowledgement that Mineta is still dealing with this lesser arc.

It's nice not just for Mineta, but also ties into the continuity more, and further demonstrates just how important Izuku is to 1A. Izuku has ultimately become to 1A what All Might was to Izuku and Bakugo: an inspiration, a role model, someone to admire, etc.

This is certainly one of his better scenes, yes.

I…honestly don’t know what to make of this whole thing, like whether this is just a weird idiom he used or if he actually means it (I mean, I’d normally say the former, but…well, part of me can’t help wonder). Likewise, I’m not sure how much of the fan reaction is genuine outrage and how much is people comically overreacting or just people going “WTF”.

Regardless…if Mineta IS meant to be bi…then can we please have more than him?

We've been over this, the word he used often has romantic implications but it doesn't have to. if you like that as a joke, whatever. If you don't, good news, it almost certainly wasn't meant that way in this case.

I get not liking Mineta, I can understand never liking Mineta, but this kind of just seems like trying to intentionally rile yourself up to dislike a scene involving him, even when there's nothing gross or sexual about it. And that just strikes me as draining, and I don't see the point in it.

That’s the great thing with Japanese: you can interpret everything however you want.

Anyway, I’m still waiting for Ochaco’s part because she… didn’t really do or say much at all here. Still a good scene though.

The amount of people calling Mineta mlm on Twitter is making me think he's about to try to sell me essential oils.

When was the last time Mineta did anything perverted, incidentally? Everyone's so angry every time he exists, but I genuinely don't remember the last time he was lewd.

Yes, but that seems to have more to do with Shoo Out the Clowns than anything else. He's not in the Endeavor Agency Arc after the Christmas party, and he's barely in the Paranormal Liberation War Arc.

"Mineta" has gone from 9k tweets earlier this morning to 95k jesus christ we really are starved.

Apparently his first line in the entire manga was calling Shoji sexy so... This isn't coming out of nowhere.

Justin Briner (Midoria's english VA) tweeted out a cryptic (but imho hilarious) image in response to the mineta stuff:

Anyway, i don't really care about mineta or anything he does. The wording gives me a mild chuckle, him possibly being bi makes me shrug because it's at least better than 99% of the rest of his character, but mostly it just seems like a bit of a joke Horikoshi was having, and the fandom responds like this because everyone's talking about shipping anyway due to lewd handholding.
